RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
ORIGINAL: blw For that low cost, I would just replace the crank since I would already have the engine apart.
Do you mean "Daves free crankshaft straighting"? I wonder how many he has done since he posted that message way back when..............

RE: General question on fitting props
I put my new APC props on a dubro balancer to see where the hole center should really be. I will then use my bench drill press to ream the hole approx where it should be. I find that the final balancing is much easier this way. After you do a few props this way you get a pretty good idea of how far off center to ream the "new" hole.

RE: Super Tigre prices appear to be heading up
ORIGINAL: summerwind i can't believe that this thread is still going................funny though, old vintage NIB Super Tigres (italian made[8D]) fetch more than these new Chineese versions........
I am a ST fan and have picked up many over the past 10yrs. I think if you are into collecting, the italian engine is the one to buy, and yes they do seem to command a little more $$ on 3bay than the newer chinese counterparts. I have a few of the chinese engines and they are very well made, I think they are cleaner inside and all have been shipped wet with preservative oil. I am happy that the chinese are building high quality engines and have not ruined the Supertigre name.

RE: Welcome to Club SAITO !
Yes it is no suprise that a hot engine will start without the glow plugs being lit by battery power. These engines are not toys, they deserve respect for the injuries they can inflict to the careless. I have seen fellow pilots get carted off to the emergency room to stitch up severe cuts. I wear a leather welding glove when I hand prop my big tigres. I had a S-3000 smack the hell out of my hand, and even with my welding glove on I was running around my backyard crying like a madman in pain. I escaped injury, but man that hurt like %*$#@(*.
ORIGINAL: w8ye Is yours ringed?
I am not sure now, but I think it is. I am out of town at the moment so I'll have a look when I return home. What make the ABC version unusual, a collectable? I know many of the early ST engines are worth big bucks, however this engine is probably 70-80's vintage.

I think it is unusual to use a hopper tank with a pumped engine like yours. Are you trying to cure some problem like fuel foaming?

RE: Zenoah G-20 starting problem
Is the carb "wet" with fuel when you attempt to start? A good wet prime is neede to get the fire started. Is the plug gap roughly .020"? Did you try cranking the engine with the choke closed until the engine "pops"? Open choke, crank again with throttle at idle or very slightly open, and it should start. If you have compression, fuel, and ignition, the engine will start. If not, something is missing. Good luck

RE: Magumn 160 Twin
ORIGINAL: nilsreinert123 Is there a box like that with 5 plug-leads ? it would have been cool to use on my asp 400 ;)
You would need 5 ignition boxes and have to time each one to the cylinder it is asigned to. On a 5 cyl radial you will never have more than one cylinder at tdc at any given time. A boxer twin is easy to do because both cylinders come up on tdc at the same time, and you can fire them both together, as one.

The crankshaft in this engine is a cantilever type, so they will stand up to a propstrike better than a three

RE: witch engine
The G-26 is qiute powerful for its size, I very much doubt that the DLE is going to be much stronger. I have owned the brison 2.4 and it is a very nice engine, mine turned a APC 20X10 @ 7200 rpm, this is much stronger than the G-26 and weighs little more. If you can get one, I would suggest it as a good choice.

RE: Problem problem problem
Hobbsy is telling you that your engine is not turning fast enough with the large prop, and this is causing poor fuel draw through the carburetor.

Would like to use gas,but dont know witch.I like the g-38 but have to cut the firewall and I dont like that, now Im thinking of a DLE30 never heard of them has any body here heard of them. Can you guys help me out with a good gaser for this plane. thanks Fred
The DLE 30cc is a new engine, have you read the thread here on them? The G-26 is a great engine, and is lighter and as powerful as the 38. From what i'm reading, this plane comes in at close to 20lbs? I'm sure the G-26 would fly it, but there would not be much excess power there.

RE: Problem problem problem
Kostas, give that poor engine a break! A 11x6 is too much prop. Your .40la has the power of a .25BB engine, maybe. I have found that a 10X5 is a very good prop for the .40la. As for your problem with the fuel draw, do you have the tank placed close to the engine? If not, maybe the engine can't pull the fuel that far when the plane is held vertical.

RE: Saito Bearing question
ORIGINAL: MetallicaJunkie i always thought leaky front bearings would cause tuning issues [8|]
Not in this case. Two stroke glow engines rely on a close tolerance fit between the crankshaft and case to keep air from leaking in and upsetting the tune.

RE: Saito Bearing question
I'll bet you did'nt use a sealed bearing in front? It's okay as long as you can live with the oil loss from the front, it really is just a cosmetic problem that will not bring any harm to your engine. If it were my engine, I would just leave it as is. At least you know that there will always be fresh supply of oil coming through your bearings and camshaft area, and that is a good thing for sure.

Yes, you are running much too small of a prop, try a 14X7, 14X8, 13X9, etc.

RE: Where to Buy Megatech engines?
ORIGINAL: MartyH What is the deal with this forum? [8|] No one ever answers the question posted. I was anticipating simple responses to ''Where do I buy Megatech engines?'' Guys, WHO SELLS MEGATECH ENGINES?
Must be a conspiracy to mislead you! I told you where I bought my megatechs. Folks here are trying to be helpful, why do you not see that? RE: Where to Buy Megatech engines?
I have bought several of the megatech .61's from a vendor who was listing them on on 3bay, they were brand new and very inexpensive. I don't see any listed at the moment. The .61's are a longstroke design similar to, but not a clone of the OS .61SF. The .46 is a clone of the OS SF with a true ABC cylinder.
