RE: Seen one of these?
That engine is only worth what the market will bare. IMO he should have taken the $1450, the engine market is a little soft at the moment.

RE: K&B Sportster .65 (target drone engine)
I happen to have 65 sportster that has a "91" on the backplate and it came with a bag of 12" unmarked rev-up props, I never suspected it might be a drone engine. I have not run the engine, but it looks to be a earlier K&B without the bronze bushed crankcase. I suppose this crankcas will wear its shaft bore quickly? i don't yet know what I will do with this engine but I might put it on the stand and run it some. I have some fox fuel w/20% castor oil lube.

RE: OS61FSR or OS61SF ABC
ORIGINAL: iron eagel I was told that the .40 FSR was a ''fast'' engine, I have one new in the box but all of the paperwork is pretty limited, just one sheet and quite a bit of that is in Japanese.
It may have been a fast engine by 1970's standards, but certainly not today. I have a NIB one also, along with a few used ones in my stash, and a "new" marine version fsr that is about 30-35 yrs old.

They are similar in power but the FSR is smoother running IMO and maybe a little lighter weight. Buy them both. They were both available in ringed or ABN configuration.

RE: Best all around 40 size engine
There is no arguement that the Jett is head and shoulders above everything else available,........but when the OP mentions that he is looking for a ASP, he just wants a inexpensive sport engine and is probably not in the Jett market. Like trying to sell him a ZR-1 vette when what he really wants a chevette.......... I'm suprised some chi-com company has not yet made an attempt to copy Jett engines yet, or maybe they have and can't get past 17k rpm without exploding. [:D]

RE: Prop injury in the news
She is lucky to be alive. Having been a part of naval aviation since 1987, most of the prop strikes I have heard of have been lethal. Anyone who goes near a turning aircraft should be briefed on danger areas at the very least. Aviation is very unforgiving of even the smallest mistakes.

RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
The 70 surpass was discontinued and replaced with the 70 surpass II that is now replaced by the alpha series fourstrokes. There are still many spare parts out there for the surpass floating around even though tower does'nt have them. The surpass series were made for a long time and even the new alpha engines use some surpass parts.

RE: OS fs 70 Surpass
ORIGINAL: delman You might try heating the engine with a heat gun or in an oven for a 5-10 minutes then try turning it over. Compression on a 4 stroke can be low due to carb position and/or the ring stuck in the piston groove. Try the heat first to free it up.
Along with the heat, I would suggest using some isopropyl alcohol also to dissolve the gunk in the engine, this should free it up good. Some ebay sellers are a little fast and loose with the terms "NIB, Mint, New, Never used, etc".
ORIGINAL: Sport_Pilot I too am mechanical minded, I have a degree in it.  And spending time pulling the engine apart is a waste of time even if spending one second because you can clean it without pulling it apart and you are inceasing wear to the engine.  Now if you are racing then the rigor's or racing do warrant close inspection, but we are not talking about racing here.
It only takes a few minutes to field strip a .61 size O.S. At the moment I have a 2.0 litre escort engine I am rebuilding because a intake valve seat shattered while it was being driven, what a mess that is.

RE: Disappointed in RC Advancement Over Last 20 Years
ORIGINAL: on_your_six I hate the ''Remember When'' nostalgic thread currently running. Sure it is nice to remember how it was, but I have to question why the snail slow progress in the RC technology? I bought my first 7 channel RC radio about 25 years ago... and there has not been that much progress or advancement since proportional radios were introduced. In the same time span, I have gone through about 10 computers with remarkable advancement each time. Radios with programmable functions have not been around very long. Telemetry is still in its infancy and few people are enjoying its benefits. Microsoft flight simulator arrived in in 1995. The RC simulators have not caught up yet with realism. I expected a lot more from RC when I got back into the hobby. WHY SUCH SLOW PROGRESS IN RC? I say remember now, it's not that great now.
Our progress is funded with disposable income, considering that, I think it is remarkable that we have advaced this far in the last two decades. The govt is not paying for our progress, WE ARE. Look at our autos and light trucks, they have advanced because the govt has mandated it!

RE: Frozen Tower 60
I have always been a mecanical minded person and changing bearings has been a easy task for me, I have done over 20 of my engines easily. I started out using a propane torch, like for sweating copper plumbing (risky), then the oven method (safe but time consuming), and now I just use a monokote heat gun every time (best), it really is the safest, quickest way to go. The most troublesome change I have done is a saito 150, the tight tolerances caused me to have to draw the bearing in with a puller while maintaining the hot case with the gun, it went in fine just a little more work that I have had with my OS and enya engines. My final step, when the engine is back together, is to mount a prop and then heat the lower part of the engine again to allow the bearings to locate themselves in the bores and eliminate any binding that may exist, however slight, then allow the engine to cool slowly.

RE: Frozen Tower 60
ORIGINAL: flybyjohn The reason I say take it apart and clean it well before running it is because if there is rust inside around the crank area or bearings, (the only place it will be) then just loosening up the engine and running it can ruin it by having all that rust flushed up right into the cylinder and it will destroy the piston and sleeve. By taking it apart you can see if there is a lot of rust or if it is just caster oil. If you have it apart then you might as well clean it up. A little steel wool to the crank to get the surface rust off and then clean up the bearings and oil everything then run it. You will end up with a better running engine this way. I had one engine I took apart and there was a lot of surface rust around the crank shaft. You really need to get as much of this out of the engine instead of running it up through the cylinder.
This is what I do also, the iron oxide (rust [:D]) is very abrasive and by running it through the engine you can take years off the life off it. I use a toothbrush, alcohol, and a green scotchbrite pad to scrub the rust off the crankshaft. No need to get evrey spec just the stuff that will get loose into the engine as it runs.
