RE: starter box for redcats?
we never really adjusted anything we just try line up the flywheel and set the car on it, when i would try to make contact with the flywheel and set it on the starter box wheel it wouldn't move the flywheel instead when it would the rubber would start burning and the motor start smoking. then some guy came by that is kind of experienced in rc and told it wouldn't work on redcats and was made only for ofna. i was suprrised because i thought they were supposed to be universal.

RE: starter box for redcats?
ok thanks for the info but, that's not what i'm looking for that's a roto start, i was specifically looking for a "starter box" like this: http://www.ofnawarehouse.com/product_info.php?products_id=669 i'll probably just stick to the pull start system but, just curious still if there is a starter box for redcats or not

starter box for redcats?
Is there a starter box that will work with redcats? i just bought an ofna starter box and it doesn't work with redcats the flywheel won't touch the starter box. I would prefer to find a starter box that will work with both 1/8 and 1/10 so i don't have to buy two different starter boxes thanks

Help Identifying a Volcano S30 Part
I need the part on the volcano s30 that control the steering it has a screw that comes up through the bottom of the chasis. I accidently tightened this screw too much and it stripped, so I need to replace the part but, I'm looking at the schematics view at redcat and I see two similar parts and can't figure out which one I need. I took a pic of the part on my volcano, this is what I need: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38834766/2012-08-25%2010.27.34.jpg At redcat's site these are the two parts I found that look similar to it: http://www.redcatracing.com/02025 http://www.redcatracing.com/02075 which one is the correct part? thanks

RE: caldera 3.0 - wheels don't turn on the ground
just to update the thread so nobody tries to figure it out, we got the brake issue resolved, i needed to put tubing in the brake linkage rod so the throttle gear pushes the brake linkage rod far enough to apply the brakes. still having problems getting it to start but, i was given a tip to put a couple drops of fuel into the carb so going to try that tomorrow

RE: caldera 3.0 - wheels don't turn on the ground
well i got the spur gear and replaced it and the wheels are turning now but, there's a couple issues now. first of all could somebody please check this quick video clip of me rocking the spur gear while holding the clutch bell to confirm i set it correctly? i want to be extra careful i set it up correctly since they only had a steel spur gear for the caldera and if it's not set properly i don't want the clutch bell to wear out and have to replace that - video link: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38834766/MVI_0814.MOV ok first issue, after i put everything back together my brakes aren't responding. i made a video: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/38834766/2012-06-12%2015.09.56.mp4 how can i fix the brakes? also i tried to run it anyway and when i throttled the engine died, i was able to run it around in the drive way in small bursts but, when i got it in the alley and hit the throttle harder it died. after that i tried to start it and i can't get it to start. these are the needle settings redcat told me but, i don't recall the needles being that far in, i couldn't get mine to start last time until the LSN was out about 6 turns. i tried to put everything back to factory settings but, it won't start. HSN: 3 turns out from fully closed LSN: 2.5 turns out from fully closed does that sound right? that means i turn in the needles all the way (clockwise) like I'm screwing in a screw until it reaches the end, then i back it out those number of turns mentioned?

RE: smartech 1:5 scale gas truck - problem starting
lol ok ill be careful about that, that makes sense though i think somebody might have manually put the brakes on it so that it doesn't roll across since it does sit outside. the other person wasn't here so i couldn't ask and we never turned this one on so i didn't have the radio out to check it with and i can't tell visually which position the throttle is supposed to be in when the brakes are on but, i will just mess with it to figure it out. since currently i can't free wheel it across the floor but, my other smartech truck which is completely identical to this one, it's the same exact model/type etc. that one free wheels across and i know this one used to also since in the morning when i brought it outside i rolled it on the floor. so i'm guessing somebody put the brakes on manually since i don't even have the radio out for this one it's still in it's sealed box.
ORIGINAL: Paul1981 The wheels moving in opposite directions if you spin them whilst the truck is off the floor is perfectly normal; this is caused by the gearing in the differential. It will be more noticable though if your brakes are on. If you have everything switched off, engine not running, turn your radio gear on and push and keep the throttle stick held forward; it will let the brakes off and you should be able to free-wheel it across the floor. If it doesn't, you may have drag-braking which means that your throttle and brake linkages are not set up properly. If you check this though you will need to make sure that you return it to the normal/idle position before starting the engine again; unless you switch your radio gear on first you will be starting with an open throttle and you will either injure yourself, others around you, or it will take off and go hell-bent for the horizon until it hits something or runs out of fuel... RE: smartech 1:5 scale gas truck - problem starting
ok, got it will keep that in mind! now i'm having another issue with my other smartech gas truck this one for some reason the rear wheels are moving in opposite directions so it doesn't roll on the floor the wheels can't turn since if i hold it up in the air and i move one wheel the other goes in the opposite direction so on the ground if i try to roll it or push it, it just drags wheels can't rotate since they go in opposite directions. i checked my other smartech truck and that one doesn't do that. if i move one wheel in one direction the other slightly moves and i can roll it on the floor etc. on the other truck the wheels are moving at the same force in opposite directions. did somebody accidently do something like apply a brake somehow to one of the wheels or what could have happened?

i checked the fuel lines they match up with the other vehicle so i figured they were correct. anyway my neighbor got it to start, he didn't do anything special but, he went and got a wrench to tighten in the spark plug i had only screwed it in by hand, that's the only thing different he did. thanks again for all the replies/support

thanks for the reply. ill try that, i havent' checked the spark plug will do that tomorrow. only thing about the other things is that i don't know how to unplug the kill switch or not sure how to test the bad ground, i guess i'll try whatever i can and see what happens
ORIGINAL: tapkoote Close the choke and pull half dozen times, pull the plug it should be wet. Could be air leak at the carb, not alowing enough fuel in. Did you check to see if there was spark at the plug? Could be a bad ground on the high tension coil. Maybe a bad kill switch, un plug that and try. if it starts put the choke on to stop it.
smartech 1:5 scale gas truck - problem starting
i'm new to this hobby have a few months experience with nitros still learning. my shop got a smartech 1:5 gas truck recently. i'm having problems starting it, are there any common troubleshooting steps for gas trucks? the instructions don't say much just some things like where the choke is supposed to be set, push the plastic round thing to fill it with oil, make sure there's fuel in the tank just the obvious stuff and I keep cranking the engine and it doesn't start. i tried priming but, didn't help. is there some kind of trick to get it to start, by doing something with the choke or something? the thing is that there is another smartech 1:5 gas truck here and that one started without any issue so i'm thinking there's something wrong with this one, we thought it might be the spark plug so i changed it today and i spent about 10 min. tried cranking like 20-30 times and i couldn't get it to start. the other truck started pretty much immediately. any ideas as to what the possible issues could be or anything i can troubleshoot? thanks

RE: caldera 3.0 - wheels don't turn on the ground
yeah i should've paid more attention, i never had issues setting it on the shockwave so I guess I didn't pay attention as much this time to get it set properly. i guess since the caldera goes faster and is a 2 speed it has to be set properly since the gear has a chance of wearing out quicker if not set correctly. honestly i've never had a worn out spur gear before though i'm still new to the hobby so i don't have as much experience as others but, that was on the shockwave, on the caldera it wore out really fast, i mean i really haven't even had a chance to do any proper runs most of the time it was on the block while I was working on figuring out other problems. RE: caldera 3.0 - wheels don't turn on the ground
no i didn't remove a wheel only engine which was replaced recently. i tried checking the drive cups as i saw a video of somebody saying to do that for this issue as well but, the thing is that on the caldera the screws that are in the drive cups are just a metal point there's no tip to put in a screw driver or hex key, it looks like this:
ORIGINAL: nitrosportsandrunner did you remove a wheel recently? a drive pin could have fallen out from behind the wheel hex. also, check all your driveshafts(The ones to the wheels and the center ones) make sure they are all there. Then check the drive cups(what the driveshafts go into) There is a small set screw on them. sometimes these can get loose. check them all and tighten if needed.
RE: caldera 3.0 - wheels don't turn on the ground
ok i'll change it but, how come the wheels turn when it's on the block? is it because when it's on the ground there's weight that it needs to pull so that's the reason they don't turn on the ground because the spur gear is stripped?

caldera 3.0 - wheels don't turn on the ground
i have the nitro caldera 3.0 i'm having issues with it, when the caldera is on a block and wheels are not touching the ground if i throttle the wheels will turn but, when i put it on the ground it barely moves just rolls a bit no matter how much i rev. i saw a redcat tutorial saying that if this happens it's an issue with the slipper clutch and needs to be tightned, well i tried to tighten it all the way and then pull out a couple turns and that didn't work then i tightened it completely and that didn't work. here's a picture of my slipper clutch, is it too far tightened? anybody know how i can fix this issue? thanks

carrying case for starter kit?
i'm looking for a decent (portable) carrying case for my starter kit, so i mean there's not that many tools just a couple screw drivers, wrenches, glow ignitor. currently i keep everything in the box it came in but, it's kind of a hassle opening/closing this box each time and putting tools back in, etc. etc. I checked home depot and lowes website since i figured pretty much any kind of basic carrying case would work but, dont' see anything good on there. any recommendations? what do you use for portability to bring your tools with you wherever you go? also now that i think about it, i'd like it to be a little larger so i could put in other tools i have as well but, don't take up too much space but, would be good to have everything together in one place instead of having to dig through my backpack for each and every thing. also i don't want anything heavy like a hard case or something, i'd prefer a soft case with zipper if possible. thanks

I went ahead and ordered that Dynamite set but, still looking for others as a backup incase. Since people seem to be saying that the ratchet itself is stripping out, I haven't seen anybody say that the screws are stripping out so that's good but, having issues with the ratchet itself. I saw this on another site that had reviews as well as amazon. Though it could be user error or just a defective item they received. I'm assuming you didn't run into these issues so that's a good sign.
ORIGINAL: edgeverse These all look like good sets, but a bit pricey. Ok, I went ahead and filled out warranty form. Though I still went ahead and order it as well since I was putting in my weekly order and didn't want to wait as it could take 2-3 days to get the claim approved and I didn't know for sure if it would be covered under warranty. I asked them in the claim form if they approve the claim if they can just credit me back. I don't know if they do this or not, I took the risk but, it's not a big deal I just don't want to wait more time, was really looking forward to doing some runs tonight :( I've been getting teased all day lol i've only been able to start it and not run it at the shop haha
