I have the plane and it is a great little flyer. It will handle a little wind, but could be a hand full on the landings. It is pretty responsive for a micro, but don't plan on too many aerobatic moves. You can do loops, roles, and the such. Takes off quick and lands in a short distance. I will tell you to get a couple of 3.7 volt 160 mah batteries though. The 160's will give you longer flight times. If you just stick with the battery that comes with it; you will fly about 10 minutes (depending on throttle control).

I have them in a Rascal 110 and the ones on the ailerons groan, but not the elevator. The ailerons are not in a bind what so ever.

Chris, First off; thank you for your service. Secondly; the Phoenix sim actually has the Super Cub LP on it, so you should be way ahead of the curve when you do get back and fly it for the first time. With time on the sim; you should have it mastered pretty quick. The Habu is also on the Phoenix sim. The Habu is pretty fast. A lot faster than the Cub. I would probably go from the Cub to a T28 Trojen before the Habu. I say this because the Cub is a 3 channel plane and the rest are 4 Channel. Might be a small learning curve once you add another channel, but this is just my opinion. Good things: all of these planes are on the Pheonix sim and the DX5e can control all of them as well; just bind and fly.

I have the Phoenix sim that comes with the DX5e. The flaps work on the 2 and 8 number keys on your keyboard (pretty sure that's correct). Not the most convienent, but ..... Choose a plane that has flaps and get it close to you. Hit the 2 and 8 key and you will see the flaps work. I fly Futaba, but never connected my radio because I have the DX5e.

I looked at my transmitter (DX5e) that came with the sim and all channels are set to normal except the ailerons. It is the only one that is reversed. It has been like this since new and have only had to calibrate one time (when installed). Make sure everything is set to norm except the ailerons. Do this with the TX off and unhooked from the USB cord. Once you have done that; go back through the set up process and see if that fixes the problem.

I made a "tray" to mount the ignition and ignition battery. That was mounted up front and held in place by two screws; one through the firewall and one towards the back. The fuel line (of coarse) and vent line go through the firewall as well. Don't want to go through that again. Even had to use a mirror sometimes to see what I was doing up front. Access hatch would have made it a breeze, but just couldn't bring myself to cutting it open.

That is deffinately tight! I'm sure it was easier because of the access cover on the bottom of the plane. Does the Twist come that way or did you make the access? That would be about the only way you could stuff all that in there. I did not want to cut an access into the bottom of my 110; so everything went in through the cockpit. That was not fun. It also did not help that I'm using two RX batteries (redundancy) and one for the ignition. The fact that you are using one battery for everything helps as well.

I'm relatively new to the gasser side of things, but after putting one on a Rascal 110; I would like to see how someone would fit all the extras into a smaller fuse myself. The 110 has a lot more room than a 40 or 60 size plane, but the room filled up quick after everything was installed. Not to mention trying to get your ignition / RX seperation.

Radian Have you gotten it to work yet? I posted what it took to get mine to work. This is the only update that I have had problems with. All other updates have worked flawlessly. I don't know if the problems are because of the size of the file or what. Like I said; all other updates have worked fine, but they are smaller files.

Cessna 188 Ag Wagon Large Scale
Can someone tell me the manufacturer of the Cessna Ag Wagon that has around a 120" wingspan? I know I have seen it on here before, but I can not find and can not find anything on a web / google search. It had the same colors as the Hanger 9 Piper Pawnee and I believe it was a 50CC plane.

You say barn finds. Have you gone through the planes and checked everything? This could be caused by several different things. Try changing the glow plugs and make sure your glow driver is charged and working. I personally like the OS glow plugs, especailly for the four strokes. How are the fuel lines coming from the tank to the motor? Are they new or old? They could have holes in it allowing air into the line. This goes for the fuel line and vent line. The lines could look good, but it only takes one little hole to cause problems. Is the stopper in the fuel tank sealing properly? I would start there and see what happens. If you check those things and still does not run; you might need to clean the carbs and make sure you don't have trash in the needles.

I'm sure that some of the more experienced guys will chime in on this. First; I have a Phoenix sim and you can practice your dead sticks there. You can go into "setup failure" and the sim will stop the motor randomly or there are several other choices you can make. I set it at random because just like the real thing; it could happen at any time and you only have a second to figure out what you can do to hopefully land it in one piece. Good thing about practicing it on a sim is that if you don't get back to the runway and crash; you don't have to fix anything. It is good practice though. Second; if it happens with the real thing, don't panic. That's easy to say, but I think I have freaked out on each one (on the inside of coarse). Remember; altitude is your freind. If you are flying with others in the air; announce immediately that you have a dead stick. This will let the others know that they need to climb and leave the approach to the runway clear for you (if it happens to someone else, DON'T watch their plane; keep your eyes on YOUR'S). Hopefully you have enough altitude that you will be able to "float" in, but it all depends on the plane you are flying (high wing or low wing). You have to keep your airspeed up. Don't pull back on the elevator too much; this could cause the plane to stall. If you do stall the plane and you have enough altitude; get the nose pointed down (not too much) so you can get your airspeed back up. If you have too much airspeed, you can scrub some off before landing or you can "make" the plane land and hopefully your runway is long enough. Our runway is only about 400 foot long and I have been in situations that I had to "make" the plane land because I could not go around or scrub off any speed. My plane ended up in the tall grass at the end of the runway, but wasn't hurt. Each dead stick situation is different and might require different tactics (keep in high rates or switch to low rates). That's why I say you only have a second or two to figure out what you are going to do. Biggest things are: don't panic, make it known to everyone flying that you have a dead stick, and keep your airspeed up. I'm sure that I have left some things out, but hope this helps. Always remember; ALTITUDE is your freind.

Matthew, There is a difference in your two choices. The Cub is a 3 channel plane and the Stinsen is a 4 channel plane. You have been flying 3 channel planes so I would go with the Supercub LP until you get comfortable flying it and can handle any flying situation that you come across. The Supercub LP will handle more wind than the micros, but if you fly in too much wind, you will run a chance of it getting carried off by the wind. Go ahead and ask me how I know that! When I got back into flying after a 20 or so year lay off; I started out with the Supercub. The LP version was not out at that time. The Stinsen is a nice flyiing plane, but you will have an additional channel (ailerons) to deal with (learn). Just my two cents.

jwayne, I would like to add something here too. Along with everything that has been mentioned; does your transmitter allow for adding any expo to your control surfaces? If it does; add some expo to your rudder. That will help some with the inadvertant rudder use. With expo; if you move the stick a small amount; the rudder will move a very small amount if any depending on how much expo you program into the transmitter. Might help you.

I don't remember the game, but I had one that was on a wire and you held the end with a button and was shaped like a flashlight. If I remember right; it came with things that you could pick up with a hook or maybe it was the skids. You would push and hold the button to get the motor to run. There was enough "give" in the wire to where the helicopter would move around and you had to "fly" to a certain extent.

Crash, If it were me; I would go buy another sealing iron. Should be able to get one for $20 or less at your hobby shop. I would hate to mess up a $15 roll of covering trying to do it with an iron. Just my two cents though.

Have called and visited 9 - 10 computer shops today and none of them have power supplies they are willing to "throw out". They want to sell used ones for a min of $25 and new ones for like $35. All my planes and work that I do on them is done in my basement. Yes; during the summer the humidity goes up, but I have a dehumidifier that I keep on 45 to 50%. I don't have a drain in the basement to run the dehumidifier to, so it gets dumped about every 2 days. Durning the winter the humidity goes down and dehumidifier gets emptied once every 3 to 4 weeks, but still stays at the 45 to 50%. They have been down there for years with no problems. Bad thing is; I have to share the basement with the whole families junk![8|]

I have "flown" on a freinds RF and after talking to the LHS owner; I purchased the Phoenix. The Phoenix has impressed me for several reasons that have already been covered. Jazzboy: I recently had a problem getting the new 3.0 update on Phoenix to take. I called Horizon and they couldn't really help. I emailed Phoenix's global support and they helped, but I eventually figured it out myself. They will help, but it might take several hours for them to emial you back. I had a post several days ago about this and I put in there what I did to overcome the problem. Gi1mo2: That is the other reason why I like the Phoenix sim. It has most planes from Horizon Hobby, Hanger 9, Eflite, Parkzone, and Blade. I would say that Phoenix will be the only one that will have the Parkzone Extra 300. The new 3.0 version added a couple planes including the HZ Super Cub LP.

Ken, Thanks for the reply. Not charging anything too big. 3 cell lipo and NiCD and NiMH batteries. Would like to have when I want to discharge/charge batteries in the basement. I have made different ends for the Triton so it doesn't matter what situation I run in to (except 110 AC). Looked at your link. I like the idea, but by the third paragraph I thought I was reading french[:D]. Why don't I send you $20 and you make me one[:D][:D]. Thanks for the info, but if you think I will be fine doing just the standard stuff; I think I will go with the converter. I am mechanically inclined, not scared of wiring, not too great with the soldering iron, but I could see myself making a 110 volt "heart stopper" (touch it and zapppp!)

AC to DC Converter
Was wondering if you guys thought that this converter would be OK to run my Triton Jr charger with? Tired of plugging into booster box or field box while at the house. The Triton Jr. has a 10 amp fuse and this only has a 6 amp output, but would it be "kicking out" all the time if I did? Utah I finally got it to work. I ended up downloading the update, uninstalling Phoenix, reinstalling Phoenix, and updated with the downloaded update defore I opened Phoenix for the first time after reinstall. It worked that time and opened Phoenix to choose which updates I wanted to install.

Phoenix 3.0 Update Problem
Has anyone downloaded the new 3.0 update? I have tried several times, but for some reason it will not load properly. Called Horizon and tech really can't help, and sent an email to Phoenix to see if they can help. No answer yet.
