RE: Need help on Losi XXL Flipping out..
It that all seems fine now on the flywheel and shoes. I was just trying to narrow down what the issue was and was curious if putting the flywheel nut on after the shoes are already installed would cause any issues. Thanks...

RE: Need help on Losi XXL Flipping out..
Hey Mclovin I figured out the issues I was having. Come to find it it was the idle speed screw was out to far which I guess was causing the engine to high rev looking for more fuel. Also the low speed needle was all jacked up set way to lean. I got her set nice now and the clutch seems to be engaging like it should. Just did final adjustments to the steering turnbuckles since one tire was pointing outward farther then the other causing it to pull to one side. So hopefully tomorrow I can run a solid tank of fuel through her without anymore issues. Im learning as I go and I appreciate all you guys helping me out.

RE: Need help on Losi XXL Flipping out..
Yeah during building and setup of the servos I made sure all trims were set to 0 and all servo arms were adjusted manually on brakes/throttle, steering and Aux where they hit the sweetspot eliminating all servo buzz. The idle gap is tiny and with full throttle the carb is completely open. I made sure like you said to look inside to observe where the idle returns to with radio/receiver turned on after letting off the trigger. All that checked out fine too on the idle gap. Im really thinking maybe the way I assembled the engine flywheel, shoes, springs and clutchbell might be the issue here. Thanks guys so much and if you all think I should change out the clutchbell and shoes and try again let me know. ...

RE: Need help on Losi XXL Flipping out..
Yeah I made sure all settings on HSN and LSN were at factory settings. I will definitely try and run the lsn more rich and see if that helps. I do have a question about the engine though when it comes to assembly. I bought the engine, flywheel and aluminum shoes.springs and clutch bell all from Jennys RC on ebay and the flywheel came the shoes were already installed. My question is during assembly of the engine of course I put the colett on first ,then I took the already assembled flywheel with shoes and springs and slid that on next. Then I put on the flywheel nut just hand tight like recommended. Is it possible that the nut going on the already assembled flywheel is messing with the kickout of the clutch shoes during rev.. I know in alot of videos I always seen them put the flywheel on and then the nut next before the shoes are even mounted. It didnt seem like it would matter while assembling but maybe it does. Also I did notice there is alot of damage already to the clutch shoes and even a ring inside the clutchbell from the shoes gripping into the inside. I have a backup set of clutch shoes.flywheel and clutchbell awating in ready if that might be the story behind all of this.Let me know what you guys think.

Need help on Losi XXL Flipping out..
Hey Guys, I just recently built a Losi XXL from scratch and today it decided to go nuts on me. Luckily I had the chassis up on the deck railing upon starting it up because it would of been a complete run away... Anyways heres whats happening as follows. I start it up and its flawless, purring like a kitten. Then I notice the spur gear and engine clutchbell starting to chatter a small bit back and forth at the start then all 4 wheels start slowly picking up speed. Soon the engine clutch bell is full throttle and so are the wheels and it sounds as if it is wide open. Checked carb has the usual small opening as it should for a slow steady idle, slipper clutch is 1 turn out as recommended from tight. Reverse toggle on transmission is pressed fully against the tranny body as it should for forward motion. Im thinking maybe the clutch shoes might of been damaged while I was tweaking everything after it was built, because I do recall a time where the engine idle was high and my brakes were set way to tight. So being a rookie I turned down the throttle trim to b-50 on the LCD Radio which more then likely completely locked up the brakes causing strain on the clutch shoes. So do I sound like Im on the right path before I pull the engine or is it possible the tranny is somehow no good ? Thanks guys and Im sure someone has had this issue Im having now. P.S Pulled the clutch bell and looked at the clutch shoes and springs, everything is still where it belongs and I noticed a groove inside bell where shoes kick out and grab the clutch bell along with scraping on the shoes from engaging the bell. So It looked normal as far as i could tell. I find it weird how the spur gear/slipper shoes no resisitance from the tranny and it gets going so fast on its own just sitting still. So confused and irritated... Going to look more into the toggle forward reverse on tranny as maybe its a gear stripped inside somewhere who knows???? Still spoiled to cheapo Redcat where there is no tranny only the spur gear...

RE: New Losi Build Transmission issues Please help!!!
yeah I will baby it until probably the 5th or 6th tank. I do have a question though on balancing these brand new never run tires. I have heard after driving it a little on fresh tires it takes time for the foam to settle and balance out is this true because they are quite out of balance and misshaped looking causing some serious bobble while driving? I have watched some vids on tire balancing and I see they use clay in the insidde of the wheel on the light spot. My question after balancing the tire with the clay do you keep the clay in there for some slow runs at first or remove it after they sit for awhile? Thanks and after I work out the tire balancing issues I will be all set. All feedback would be greatly appreciated. Happy bashing!!!

RE: New Losi Build Transmission issues Please help!!!
Ohh hellz yeah!!! Got her up and running and doing the 2 idle tank method first and then tomorrow run a few tanks in figure 8 patterns. She started right up and other then a quick idle adjustment on the idle screw, she sung through that first tank nice and rich at a perfect steady idle. With my sorry arse patience level I didnt think I would make it through the whole build, There is a god... LOL Thanks everyone who responded in this thread and hopefully after running her in patterns tomorrow she will loosen up some on the tranny. Happy Bashing!!!!

RE: New Losi Build Transmission issues Please help!!!
Definitely shouldnt need a rebuild since its a brand new pull form a RTR Losi LST XXL from Jennys RC on Ebay...
ORIGINAL: ntrain42 Take the tranny out. Make sure the front rear drive shafts spin the f/r diffs smoothly, and go from there. Transmission is really easy to work on and build or rebuild.
RE: New Losi Build Transmission issues Please help!!!
Alright Ntrain I took the tranny back out and heres what reaction I get to everything. Alright If Im holding the transmission from above and looking down at the top of it and spin the pinion located to on my (right) that holds the spur and 2nd gear clockwise while the reverse selector switch is held inward towards the body of the tranny the outdrive cups spin (left) and I hear the sound of gears and some resistance but smooth. If I move the reverse selector forward away from the tranny body and spin the spur gear pinion clockwise then the outdrive cups spin clockwise and it sounds and feels smooth but some resistance and noise from the gearing. The diffs work perfect when the are spun without them being linked in the transmission cups so no slippage there or anything rubbing the diffs perfectly smooth spin to the wheels. Just curious if the tranny will loosen up after break in because everything feels pretty normal on it as far as I can tell. I just know it sounded like crap when it was all together when you push the entire vehicle across the floor. The same type of grinding sound you would here if the outdrive cup slid out of the brake keying. Thanks and if any of this sounds weird let me know what I need to check next. Thanks fellaz...

RE: New Losi Build Transmission issues Please help!!!
Yeah ntrain I got bored and built another one from scratch since I have been on a 11 day break from work. The transmission is making like a crackiling sound when it rolls like there is a bind somewhere inside the tranny. The brakes and all were already looked at and all looks fine there. All drive cup grub screws are all tight and properly aligned. Does the transmission loosen up after break in or should everything roll free without noise when you push it on the ground. I know my other Losi Monster Truck only made noise when the grub screw was not properly seated on the outdrive cup when the brakes were sliding off the cup. This isnt the case this time. If taking tthe traansmission apart is easy I guess I can do that though I was trying to avoid all that mess. Any ideas on possible fix or what to double check would be great. Is there any chance something is messed up where the forward reverse selector is? I do know that if that is not set right the spur/2nd gearing will not spin right with the truck. Also when I spin the spur gear by hand while truck is off the ground shouldnt the wheels spin more then just a little bit? L8ter.............

New Losi Build Transmission issues Please help!!!
Hey guys, I just recently bought every part for the Losi LST XXL including the nice Spektrum Radio/Receiver combo for one hell of a good deal. Well anyways everything went together pretty much without a hitch but I noticed the transmisssion is very tight almost as if the brakes are partially on. I already tried to adjust the brakes and unscrewed and rescrewed all the outdrive cups off the tranny making sure both side cups grub screws were properly seated on the flat side of the shaft. If I spin one rear tire the rear tires spin opposite each other. The front is the same way where I spin one the other turns opposite so I think the diffs are okay. Any help from a RC Vet would be awsomee on this issue because Im about ready to say the hell with it and get another tranny to try. Thanks fellaz and Happy New Years Day!!!!

RE: Best Shocks you can get for LOsi XXL??
Was wondering what size nut drivers I need to get for this Losi before I start to take apart the slipper gear setup and other parts of the XXL. Its a shame the book dont tell you what size drivers you will need, it only tells you the size of the hex allen wrench sizes. Also I really would like to replace the pullstarter on this thing since I broke it the first week I had this truck. Is it easy to pull the engine off this chassis. It looks like the clutchbell of the engine goes into the little side clear plastic cover piece. Will I need to remove the whole slipper setup to remove the engine or will the engine slide right out of there after the 4 bottom screws and servos are all unhooked? Thanks fellaz and sorry for all the questions... This thing looks pretty damn easy to rebuild by the looks of it but its better to ask questions so nothing stupid happens.L8ter!!!

RE: Best Shocks you can get for LOsi XXL??
Yeah that was exactly what was happening and thanks so much for the pics. After wiggling the cup all the way through the disc I got her all setup now. I like those waterproof servos by the way by Traxxes. Did you have to do any mods to get those servos to work in the losi chassis? How much torque do those servos dish out? Thanks again everyone you all have been very helpful...

RE: Best Shocks you can get for LOsi XXL??
Yeah Mclovin I think I will try and get me some of them 8ight brake disc and see if that helps some. One thing im curious about is how deep everyones grub screw goes down in the outdrive cup next to the brake disc. If anyone has a pic that would be greatly appreciated. I also want to see how close the shaft pins are to the edge of the cup compared to mine. Thanks guys and if you all want to see a pic of mine before it slides out again let me know. Never had this issue before on any other vehicle I have owned.

Yeah I like the blue aluminum bodies and caps with yellow springs so I guess thats what Im going to rebuild with. RE: Best Shocks you can get for LOsi XXL??
Yep I will be ripping the entire suspension apart for cleaning in the next day or so to learn that area first. Then I plan on removing the transmission and whole slipper gear setup. I went nuts buying all backup parts of every main component through Jennys RC off of Ebay. You name the part I got it including 2 extra 454 engines with complete clutch assembly. 1 I plan on keeping and the other Im going to put the flywheel, shoes, pullstarter and Clutch bell on it and sell it as a complete engine kit for the Losi XXL.Ended up spending around 300 for everything which I though was a great deal if you look at this giant box of new parts I have. Bring on the jumps I say because if it breaks I got it covered. Im still having issues with the damn outdrive cup slipping out of the brake disc so looking forward to rebuilding all of that under the chassis. Thanks guys..........

RE: Help!!! with brakes on XXL MT LOSI
Ntrain do you have to buy any special topper pieces for upgraded servos of can you just reuse the ones that come stock on the Losi XXL Steering servos? Im thinking I might order 2 of the ppp since they seem to have a good amount of torque and build quality for the money. Have the PPP servos worked well for you and helped with sharper turning?

RE: Help!!! with brakes on XXL MT LOSI
Just looking for the most reliable servos with enough torque to give me a quicker turn radius and better overall response in the steering. Thanks Ntrain... P.S More then likely will only get 2 new steering servos and then move one of the stock steering servos over to the brake/throttle. That should give me plenty of torque for what I need it for.

Forgot to ask If i remember right the Battery in the Losi XXL is only 6 v am I correct? In order to have the power to run the stronger servos do you also need a bigger/stronger Voltage Battery pack for inside the Model Body to push them beast?

405 oz of torque sounds awsome to me. If you have time shoot me the link to those Ntrain so I can look into them more. Are those servos a easy swapout or will I have to make mods to the chassis? Thanks bro..

RE: Best Shocks you can get for LOsi XXL??
Yeah I did soften up the shocks so it wouldnt be so damn rigid going into turns. I wonder if that is what might be making them leak. Im still pretty new to alot of this stuff but Im learning as I go. Maybe I will tighten them up a little more and just do a sway bar on this rig. I just mainly want to make this thing as tough as possible which will lead to less downtime...

Yeah just one shock up front keeps leaking. I really have not been jumping to many big jumps but I guess its been enough to make the one start seeping some. I would really like to have some aluminum filled shocks on here with some yellow springs. But I guess I will try the slime and o-ring trick until then. Wheres the best place to get the slime and better orings for these stock shocks? Thanks for the feedback everyone..
