RE: Valley View RC Brand Engines
How many "motor"cycles are actually electric? Why is Detroit the "Motor City"? General Motors? The distinction is blurred and always has been. Deal with it.

RE: Valley View RC Brand Engines
The VVRC 20 is so close to the DLE 20 as to make no difference. On my KMP P-38, I cut holes in the firewalls for the carbs. This way, they sit far enough back to fit in the cowlings.

RE: Valley View RC Brand Engines
The first shipment of the 40cc twin was less than 20 engines, and pre-orders gobbled-up every one. Another batch is expected in 2-3 weeks. If you REALLY want one soon, don't wait til they show up on the website, call and reserve one ASAP. The introductory price won't last forever, either.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I finally put the maiden flight on my KMP P-38 today. The DLE 20's ran flawlessly. Tom Denney of ValleyView came out to watch and was smiling as much as I was after I landed. With the APC 14-13 props, this thing flies FAST effortlessly. Slowing down takes a lot of time, even with full flaps and the gear down. At a little over 18 lbs. it is grossly overpowered, but with 50+ oz./sq.ft. wing loading, I'm not complaining. This airplane is going to be a LOT of fun this summer!

I'm going down to VVRC's office tomorrow to get some parts. I'll ask about the twin and see if they are in yet.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
I have a KMP P-38 that also has limited prop clearance. I used APC 14-13 props. The DLE 20's swing them at a little over 8100 rpm.

ValleyView has the sensors. Just make sure you install it correctly, because if it's upside down, it won't work.

ValleyViewRC Is selling 35's as fast as they can get them. While I agree that the engine is a bit pricey, don't hold your breath waiting for it to come down.

RE: New DLE 35
I don't know the part # of these retracts. They're probably 20 years old. The main problem lies in the length of the leg. It bent very easily and would wedge the tire in the well, refusing to come back down when needed. I got WAY too much belly-landing practice. The retracts themselves were adequate, (barely) but the internal spring was a bit weak. The Sierras have been flawless and really let me enjoy flying this brick without worrying about the gear.

RE: New DLE 35
Sorry, I had the DLE20 in mind. For the 35, a gallon or so of 32:1 should be enough, then you can go to 40:1 synth.

RE: New DLE 35
For the 20cc, forever. Just stick with 32:1. Smaller engines need more oil in the fuel to offset the lower fuel (and oil) flow.

RE: New DLE 35
Sounds like you got good advice. Did you order it from ValleyView? Using an 18-8 for the first few tanks will avoid excess heat during break-in. I just picked up two DLE 20's from ValleyView today for a P-38. The adventure begins. Let us know how it goes for you.

Burn a gallon or two of fuel doing nothing but landings. Too many guys out there that are decent pilots, but can't land worth a damn.

I've had no problems with the 35 in my Bearcat. no problems with re-starts, either. Mine handles just like my 30's, but with noticably more power. So far, so good.

RE: Speed prop for DLE 30
Your 10K "wall" is not in the motor, it's in the ignition. Built-in rev limiter. Good reason, too. North of 10,000 rpm, there's a damned fine chance the con-rod will come out through the side of the case for a breath of fresh air. Consider yourself warned. Even at the 10K limit, engine life will be short.

RE: Speed prop for DLE 30
On a cleaner airframe, it may have done better. On the RV-4, it made little or no difference. The RV-4 was almost 4 years old and about a month ago, the entire tail assembly blew off at high speed. Needless to say, it pitched over and converted itself into a splinter-lined crater. I ordered another one the next day and it's still in progress. I've been flying a KMP Bearcat with a DLE 35RA that really hauls a$$! The 16-14 will get a workout as soon as I get a single-bolt prop adaptor for the 35. With an 18-10 it outruns 55cc warbirds handily. We'll see.

RE: New DLE 35
That's why I like the Sierra gear. When I first put this bird together, I used a set of SpringAir gear that I had on hand. They weren't up to it. In the mean time I had decided that the Saito 180 just wasn't enough, either. I shelved the airplane until the DLE 35RA was announced. Already having three of the DLE 30's, I had high hopes. At first I tried to order the electric ESM retracts from VQ Warbirds. Tomas said they were sold out, then offered me a good price on the Sierras. Best thing that could have happened. I already had a set of Sierras in my TF GS P-47 that have taken a lot of abuse and still perform flawlessly. The Sierra gear aren't cheap, but they're a bargain in the long run. Both airplanes use the Robart tail retracts and Robart air kits. ZERO problems.

RE: New DLE 35
Mine is also a bit over 16 lbs. which puts the wing loading at about 43 oz./sq.ft.. With flaps down, pulling back the power results in instant but manageable sink. It's actually fairly easy to land.

I'm using the Xoar 18-10. I got 7400 rpm after about half a gallon total time, I like this combination more every time I fly it.

RE: New DLE 35
Yup. The 35 seems to run, or at least sound better, at part-throttle. Idle and transition are fine and WOT power is impressive. Yesterday I was outrunning a TF GS P-40 powered by a DA 50. I can't wait to get my mits on an 18-12 prop to try. It's a perfect match for this Bearcat.

Based on my experience, I'd say a 19-8 is a great place to start. I think even a 20-8 is realistic after a bit of break-in. You're gonna like this engine!
