RE: Radio questions
Spectrum and JR are 2 totally different companies. Spectrum licensed their 2.4 technology to JR. After Spectrum came out with the dx7 and people were having unexplained crashes and spectrums response 'we dont know what your talking about"; the car guys came out and they had that problem with their Spectrum radios 2 years before and Spectrum came out with a capacitor to connect between the battery and receiver to stop the brown outs. The car guys were only using up to 2 servos and were having that problem how do you think it was for someone flying a BVM F100 with leading edge slats, flaps, brakes and retracts at TOP GUN? I have friends who lost their plan, engine and radios because of Spectrums lies. why did spectrum sell their radios with digital servos and 4 cell reciever battery? That is why I will never buy a Spectrum radio.

RE: Radio questions
Many of the 25 year old servos will not take 5 cell receiver packs, especially JR. As far as brown out with 4 cell packs the only brand that has this problem is Spectrum. I fly Futaba, Hitec, and Airtronics on 2.4 and I have never had a brown out with a 4 cell pack. I belong to the 2nd largest rc club in the USA and I have never heard a non Spectrum user complain about brown out.

RE: Do transmitters go bad?
They should fix it in less than 1 week unless they are really backed up. call them first and see how long the wait. I usually got my radios back within 2 weeks shipped to California. In the late 80s I would drive to Las Vegas and drop them off and go back later in the day and pick them up.

RE: Do transmitters go bad?
I would send both the transmitter and receivers back to Horzon for service. I have had nothing but exceptional service on my radios from horizon. They have repaired and upgraded my radios at little or no cost even when not covered by warranty.

RE: Engine mount
ORIGINAL: JohnBuckner Gene You know what I forgot is that this Kaos uses a nose wheel type engine mount and its likely that you may have to little room for a separate nosewheel block. The DB mounts are not set up to carry a nosewheel. Actually I think this thread started because the four stroke engine would not fit the clamp mount that apparently comes with the airplane but come to think about it, since you are going with a two stroke now and the engine should fit so it all a moot point anyway. Just go with what the arf came with and there is no real point in changing out mounts and doing all that extra work work. John
I should of read your post before posting mine

RE: Engine mount
instead of buying the dave brown mount and purchase the hayes mount http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXK797&P=0 you can run the nose gear wire through the mount. I had a tower kaos with a magnum46 with the included motor mount all i did was blue locktited the screws; you dont need to change the motormount with the 2 stroke engines. I flew the Kaos for 4 years before I gave it to a 9 year old who after learning to fly could fly better than me.

RE: Tail wheel steering fixture
ORIGINAL: CGRetired I usually leave the tail wheel free float, meaning, I do all the steering with the rudder with no control on the tail wheel. It simplifies things and works just fine without any strain on the rudder servo whatsoever. Think about it. Once the tail wheel is off the ground, which normally happens pretty quickly, your steering is done with the rudder. If you think about it, with the attached method, the steering is done with the rudder control that moves the wheel. The way I do it, I can steer all over the field with the tail wheel just used to support the rear of the fuselage with the prop thrust working with the rudder to steer the plane. Simple, but it works. CGr.
this is fine if you are flying from a grass field, but from a smooth hard surface it is a recipe for disaster for beginners.

That's why I fly Airtronics. You can't find anyone whose had a mysterious crash with that equipment.
I have An Airtronics RD8000 2.4 radio that I have had unexplained crashes. Sent under warranty sent back with explanation "updated software", year later locked out again, sent in radio charged $58.95 to replace trans and receiver antennas. 4 months later locked out again. totaled 4 planes and 2 engines. Im not the only one at my field who has ploblems with the Airtronics RD8000.

RE: Tuned pipe for OS 55AX
Another way to go is to order a Jetts muffler for the 55. It is already pretuned and its less hassle than having to remove the pipe every day; also its cheaper. You can buy 1 from Horizon hobby http://www.horizonhobby.com/products/high-performance-tuned-muffler-evo-46-60-EVOM1 .

RE: Basic Thunder Tiger 130fs carb settings
I bought 1 of these engines a while back, and tried breaking it in. I could only get 8000 rpm out of an apc 15x8 and 8500 with an apc 14x8; this was after running 1/2 gallon through it. I called hobby services and they said to send it in. I decided to run it on a test stand and try 3 different props. On the teststand it would not draw fuel unless the throttle was at least 3/4 open. I figured the lsn needed richen, but how to get to the lsn? you have to remove the throttle arm screw to make an adjustment! I removed the carb and only could blow air through with the barrel 3/4 open. I drilled a hole through the arm screw so I could make adjustments without removing the arm. While reattaching the carb I looked in the intake tube and noticed 2 balls stuck in the bend. I knocked them loose, they were balls out of a bearing, how they got there I dont know. The engine went from box to plane back to box to test stand it has not been left out. The balls did not come out of the engine, I removed the back plate and looked. I reassembled the engine and started it on the test stand with an apc 15/8 andit was running at 9300 rpm hsn 2 turns out. I still need to adjust lsn because it was smoking.

RE: Maybe the Tower Hype is True?
I have been a Tower customer since the 90's and never an issue with them until 2 weeks ago. Ordered a plane, 3 glow plugs and a engine mount over the weekend. I got an email on Tuesday the package was shipped by ups/usps which I thought was weird for a plane; received the box onThursday it was 6X6X8 inches called Tower they checked it out and saw the plane had not been shipped so they sent 1 on Thursday and I received it on Friday.

RE: OS46FX Bearing Replacement Help
1st you need to remove the piston/liner before you heat it. to remove the liner rotate the piston to its lowest point and insert a piece of wood between the piston and liner through 1 of the ports and rotate the crank to lift the liner. also remove the crank before heating the case. By the way Hobby People has the Magnum 46 on sale now for $59.99. If your piston and liner is scoured you can replace it with a Magnum 46 set SKU 281149 but, if your replacing the bearings too; it would be cheaper buying a new Magnum.

RE: Magnum engines?
I own many Magnum engines, from .25 thru .91 2 strokes and 1 .52, 4 .91 4 strokes. The new XLS 2 stroke motors are as good if not better than comporable sized OS engines.Right now you can buy an Magnum .52 4 stroke for $99.95 or a .91 for $129.95. Tower is selling the OS .95 4stroke for $299.95. The magnum 4 strokes are good running engines not quite as powerful as the OS but not 150% price difference worth. My buddy and I fly the same planes (BH Midget Mustangs) his with a OS and mine with a Magnum and I stay right up there with him. [:)]The only new Magnum I have issues with is the .52 2 stroke it has problems transitioning from idle to full throttle.[:@]

RE: OS 91 FX quits half tank
Another problem with the 91FX was the remote needle being part of the backplate and transferring heat causing bubbles and engine dying. The fix was to grind off valve housing and replace with OS 65LA needle assy and bracket.

RE: OS FX 46 piston/cylinder - who sells at a decent price?
I used the crank, connecting rod, piston, & liner from a Magnum 46XLS that had a broken case in an OS 46FX case. When l tried to use unly the piston and liner it didn't feel right so l used the crank and connecting rod too. I haven't fired it up yet so l don't know how it runs. However, a couple of years ago l did a side by side comparision of the OS 46FX and the Magnum 46XLS using the same props, fuel, muffler, and glow plugs; the Magnum was equal or better than the OS.
