RE: WACO YMF
as always thanks for the info Jay , it will help. the 150 is also a little taller from the crank centerline to the top of the rocker covers , so I'm certain I'll have to make some relief holes in the cowl for clearance. DANGIT!!! oh well, whatcha gonna do? as I'm not sure what the weight difference is between the 125 and the 150, and I'm not sure how that big a$$ muffler will fit inside the cowl. I know I'd much rather run a flexible pipe out the bottom than too have to make a great big hole for it to clear. thanks again for your help brother, she's still on the back burner on low for now, as I've got to get three more servos yet. and we're in the process of looking for a new house. this none just is not big enough for all our needs . take care and I'll be in touch again when we get settled and I get started putting everything together. C_YA blue skies everyone!!!!!!!!.........

hey Jaybird, hope all is well in your part of the country. RE: WACO YMF
ORIGINAL: Jaybird Hi Robert, The top wing assembly seems to work really well. It's a lot easier than handling four sets of screws, washers and nuts twice to remove the carry handle and attach the senter section. The panels slide in part way, the sevo connections are made and then they are slide all the way in and two screws are inserted in each side. I haven't done anything with the mock aileron pushrods or wire rigging at this point. I also went with the stock tailwheel wire instead of the DuBro unit. I hope to maiden it today if I can get my new Saito 125 running properly. Jaybird
Best of luck to you Jaybird , to dang windy for the light weight stuff I took to the feild this morning. Got a pretty good storm coming in off the Atlantic, Byrle I believe their calling it. Hopefully it will be calm in the morning .I've finally gotten my ultimate 1.20 done , and hopefully I'll get to take her up tomarrow . She's my first step up from the .46 & .60 -.90 size stuff I've been flying. And I'mwanting to get some wingtime with it before I get started on my GP WACO. Best wishes

Jaybird p.s Can't post any pictures, but you know what it looks like anyway. Hey jay , how did your top wing idea work out , and did you ever come up with any kind of telescoping rod setup for your aileron stuts ? Or did you decide to go without them . And can you let us know how she feels with the servos that you decided to use? I've not gotten mine yet ,still saving the $$$ needed , but that's all I've got left to get before I'm ready to start assembly on mine.thanks for your input

RE: WACO YMF
Ace and Stick, our field could maybe handle 50 to 60 people at best. Not much room for parking, but if iether of you would be inclined to pm me , then I could give you directions or feel free to check out our webpage at www.belleview skypirates.com and check us out . I'd love to invite anyone to come and visit. We are not an AMA sanctioned club, but we number about 60 members or better. As far as setting this up, I'd be the first to say, I wouldnt know where to begin. And I've not been to any bigtime events like topgun,so I'm none to familiar with how to go about organizing such an event. But there is another local field here in belleview called the ocala flying model club that is AMA sanctioned , and they have a paved runway that is beautiful and they also have concessions and more than one porta-potty,wich I belive would be paramount for such an event.I'll be glad to check into it and see if using their facility would or could be a possibility, no promises though as I am not a club member there, yet .It would be a wonderful venue for such an event. plenty of parking too. And ace, yeah z-hills is the greatest little town that you could'nt wait to leave... though it has change quite a bit in the past 20 some odd yrs since I left, and now they even have a flying model club called , the can-am flyers. and thier field is somewhere out near Wesley chapel. But again I'd really love to have iether of you come up on the weekend and check out our local clubs and give me some input as to what it would take to make this happen. As alway's thank's

RE: WACO YMF
ORIGINAL: Stickbuilder As to the wing incidences, what difference does it make as long as both wings have the same planform? Since they are both nearly flat bottomed, then use the bottom of the bottom wing as your zero and adjust the top wing accordingly. Its all about how they relate to each other and to the horizontal stab. As to the get together, we had it the first of May. It was called Top Gun, and several of us were present. As for me, I'm moving back to Leesburg to straighten up the mess in Florida (The Brotherhood anyway). Y'all straighten up and fly right. Bill, Waco Brother #1
Hey Bill. Robert Abel here, brotherhood member #222. I agree with ace, and think a gathering for our member's here in central florida would be great. Now, I know that t-g just took place, and it by far is a pinnecale event for the general modelling community. but it is an invatational event for all genre of aircraft. I don't believe that thats what Ace is suggesting. If I may, in my modest opinnion,I think that a gathering for the brotherhood would have great potential. Not that I would want to exclude anyone else in the modelling community,of course ,But just imagine an event just for WACO's... big or small, stick or ARF, fuel or elecrtic, one and all!!! Shoot , it may even attract a full scale WACO or two, if held in the right venue. I believe the potential drawing power of such an evet would be outstanding... And ther are quite a few small airport's here in Florida that would be perfect for just such an event. And Bill, maybe you could even contact 'HE WACO classic aircraft Co' and see if they could bring in one of their fullscale, modern day offerings for us to check out. Now I want you to absorb and think about this idea for awhile,I think it would be awsome...just my 3cent's

RE: WACO YMF
ORIGINAL: Jaybird
ORIGINAL: Stickbuilder Jay, Your bottom wing incidence should be at zero. Your top wing will probably fall somewhere in the 1 degree range either plus or minus. I prefer minus one. The horizontal stab should be somewhere in the 2-2.5 degree range (positive) range. These will be good base numbers for you to start. With the bottom wing set at zero (just block up the tail until the wing zeros out, and then go from there. Use the bottom wing as your base and everything else should fall in place. You can place a strip of tape along the fuse to represent the datum line then, and work out your engine thrust line from there. That's another thing that I don't like about a model that someone else built. You have to put too much trust into what they did. Everyone seems to think that the GP Waco flies well, so I'd say that they are following the instructions of whomever did the design work.
Your numbers are right on. I dry fit everything together to show my father who was visiting for an early Easter dinner. With my incidence meters on it, it came out just as you said with the bottom wing at zero, top wing minus one and stab at positive 2-1/2. He was pretty impressed with the size and look of it. Another question for the GP ARF owners. Has anyone tried unbolting the interplane strut brackets from the wing panels instead of the struts themselves? It occured to me that unbolting the bracket and leaving it attached to the strut would save having to handle the screws, washers and locknuts at odd angles to remove the strut per the insrtructions. It would also make them easier to identify right and left. I also found the modification to the upper wing where they left the center panel bolted to the cabane struts and made the outer panels slide in and secure with a through bolt. I simulated it today and it works great. Jaybird
hey jaybird, where did you find the info on the upper wing mod? also I like the idea of unbolting the interplane struts from the wing, but I'm leaning towards using jb weld to permenantly attach the nuts to the struts themselves and just keeping the top wing in one piece.you may remember from an earlier post that I'd asked you how you were gonna set up the servo leads in the top wing , did you ever make a final decision? I guess if your gonna keep the wing as a three piece unit that ytou'll be running each lead down each side of the cabanes?and thanks for the other info you have posted.take care...
