ORIGINAL: moron88 all of these different currencies confuse me. when i watch topgear clips on youtube and the say somthing like "the zonda is 500,000 pounds" im thinking "dang thats heavy". we should come up with a universal currency that has a set value and we just adjust what something cost to that instead of saying pounds, $, quid and god knows what else. by the way, what is the difference between pounds and quid?
pounds = £'s quid's = £'s but pounds also = lb's (like over in the USA) but the UK is converting more and more to metric, Kg's and Litres and all that hoo-haa

RE: The Official Tamiya TA05 Thread
Hi matt, 'dp' refers to the depth (pitch) of the teeth. standard tamiya pitch (like on an F1 or a TT-01 etc) are a large pitch, which make meshing them pretty idiot proof. They are the most rhobust gears and normally stand up to the worst of meshing. There are not very many gear ratios obtainable when using tamiya pitch gears. 48dp is normally used in off-road buggys and trucks (b44, xxxcr etc) also some on-road cars use them (TC5). They have a 'medium' pitch of teeth, which means they are reasonably easy to mesh (as long as you take your time) There are lots of gear ratio options for using 48dp, due to a lot of the big manufacturers using them in buggys. 64dp (tamiya 04 pitch) is used in on-road racing cars, (12th scale pan cars, high-spec touring cars etc) The teeth are very fine on them, which makes them very hard to mesh and very easy to destroy with the smallest stone etc. The vast amount of teeth on a 64dp spur gear, compared to a tamiya pitch of the same diametre is extraordinary, this means that an infinate (well neraly) amount of gear ratios can be achieved when using these. for carpet on road racing, 64dp are recommended. for tarmac racing or off road racing, 48dp are recommended and for carpark 'bashing' tamiya pitch are recommended. hope this helps. Luke
