RE: Magnum engines?
I have 4 Magnum FS engines, and all run well. I am getting identical rpm with my.91 magnum as I have with my O.S. I think it boils down to money on this one since performance is the same.

I can't even understand this forum. Why put the CHEAPEST engine in an expensive plane. Buy a great engine and have a plane that will fly for years. I won't name brands but cheap is usually not even close to equivalent.

RE: Digital Servos + 2000mAh NiMH = Huh!?
There is no need to switch to Lipo or LiFe etc. There are NIMH batteries made that are low resistance. I have used them for years on Giant scale applications without a single problem. If you have the chargers cyclers etc like I do for NIMH,NICAD etc, then why switch? The safety of LiPos is still questionable as evidenced by the numerous articles, safety warnings about them etc. Look up how many house fires have been started by LiPos and decide for your self. I hope you find an answer to your problem, I don't think your type of battery is to blame.

RE: A Beginner - wanting to have a trainer plane + engine - please help
I have read some good advice here! Do you want an ARF- almost ready to fly. Or do you want to build and learn a bit about construction? If you want to fly or even build successfully get a helper. Even a natural builder can use a little help. There are usually good deals to be had on RCU for trainers etc that could save you money. I would not recomend a gasoline engine as a first engine. Go glow. They are less complex. Gassers are fine when you get a little time flying and operating engines. I fly gas almost exclusively now, but would have been a bit overwelmed with them as a beginner. best of luck!

The higher octane may cause your engines to run hotter. Some engines in rc are made to run on normal 85 octane pump gas. Good luck!

Colorado has 300 plus sunny days a year. It is not humid and has a good public school system. Plenty to do and see for the family. Also has some really great rc fields, clubs and even world class fly-ins(rc) such as The Warbirds Over The Rockies.

The Government is the problem, not the answer. Since we the people are the constitutional owners of the so called government, we are also the reason for our governments out of control approach to common sense! We NEED TO STOP THE BULL! We are responsible for electing all the worthless crap infesting our so called leadership! If you don't like what is being done to our hobby then vote wisely! If you want a socialist society then move to another country! That is the bottom line!

RE: 4 Fried Hitec Servos in a Month
I had 4 brand new 5245 servos burn up on me! 2 were connected to the control surfaces. The next 2 were tested under no load, not connected, and without servo arms installed. I was using a 5 cell nimh pack, but it wasn't even fully charged. It had sat around in my shop for the better part of a month after burning up the first 2 servos. I haven't sent them in for repair yet. Has this been a problem for Hitech recently? I am not sure I will get them repaired for fear of in flight failures.

RE: Anybody ever tried ESM models?
I bought the ESM P-51D Glamorous Glennis. It arrived crushed by FED EX. The replacement service was good! I recieved replacement parts quickly. I must preface this report by saying I have seen the P-47 and the Hawker Hurricane fly in person. I spoke with both pilots and both said the same thing. They like the finished product, they flew well and overall were positive about the planes. they both recommended replacing all the hardware. One had landing gear problems and one said his gear were fine(P-47). I had a different experience, one that I don't think is typical of most of the ESM planes. My P51D fuselage was so thin in areas that it flexed enough while holding it to crack the paint.( I wasn't crushing it with a death grip) I showed this to a friend that agreed it was excessively thin and flexible. I was able to finish out the plane, but not the way the plans showed. There was no way the stock installation of fuel tank, glow driver(McDaniels onboard) and reciever would work. I made a custom former to support the fuel tank in the nose section to make enough room to mount everything neatly. I still had to use a fuel pump(perry) to provide good fuel flow for the Saito 1.25 FS. The Tailwheel mounting system never did work properly(the set screws couldn't hold the tail wheel arm despite gring a flat spot on the gear wire.) I used the stock tail wheel components. I spent an inordinant amount of time trying to correct hardware issues etc.I never could get the pneumatic landing gear reliable due to air leaks despite replacing all the lines and connections. So my advice is;Try an ESM but be prepared to dump ALL the stock hardware, and re-engineer the plane to be more reliable. I like the looks, and the aluminum wheels are a great value. The plans are all but useless,so they aren't for beginners. Like I said my results don't seem to be typical when asking other ESM owners. Best of luck.

RE: Why Is 3D Hated?
There will always be a little disagreement with flying styles. Like wine, art or movies it is just personal taste. I like 3D flying. I like scale just as much, especially warbirds. I have seen videos of a P-51D Mustang hovering and torque rolling. I thought it was great, but others at that flying field were upset with the non-scale flying even though it wasn't over the runway or being done with any other planes in the air. Some people aren't happy unless you are doing what they think is correct. If you are flying safely and with regard to other flyers then go for it! This hobby is for fun! That being said where I fly there is very little issue with any type of flying. A great club for sure!

I understand the reasoning behind going electric, but I just have to hear my airplane in the air. A nice smooth 1.60 twin glow flies cubs great even up here in Colorado. Best of luck, I have enjoyed following this build! Any chance of a flight vid when you are done? You have inspired me to build an L-4.

RE: ESM Planes - RIPOFF!
I understand your frustration! I have bought one ESM product and will NEVER buy another. The hardware is crap. The F.G. fuse will crack and splinter with no abuse. The planes need complete re-engineering to fly safely(ie:hardware). The canopy on my plane was so thin it buckled under the weight of tape pulled across it to hold it down. My advice is don't invest in products not made well!

RE: Looking for .61 engine options for Dirty Bird
If you are looking for good power at a reasonable price try a Supertigre .90. They are a .60 sized engine weigh the same as alot of .60's and run great on no more than 10% nitro. You have the added bonus of a wider variety of propellers also. The muffler is adjustable so it will fit almost any plane. Good luck!

RE: gas tank placing
I don't mean to bad mouth Saito. All the glow saito's I have run were EXTREMELY reliable. I have the FG-20 and can't get it to run reliably at all. I have 1.25 gallons through it with 20:1 High grade synthetic. I have sent it in for repair, got it back with a new carb, ignition module and spark plug. It still quits in the air, changes tune every flight etc. Any one out there have the same issues or did I just spend 500.00 plus dollars on a lemon? Others in my rc club have had similar issues. Any advice would be appreciated. The engine valves are adjusted and all fuel lines ,tank etc are new and without leaks. Thanks!

RE: Common Battery for both Ignition & Reciever/Servo's
I would recommend using a separate battery. It provides a separation of ignition noise and reciever. It also provides redundancy in the event of a battery failure on the ignition side. I have read up on the use of one battery and all I can say is I will never go with a one battery setup. Optical kill switches are affecting some radios out there. Do your home work before assuming an optical kill switch is the way to go. Best of luck!

I hope your lab heals well! I really encourage you to take him to the vet. I have alot of experience with labs, and the foot tear can be very serious believe it or not. If the area looks wet it may indicate a fungal infection or worse. Not trying to scare you, I have dealt with this many times. I currently have a yellow lab named brandy. Labs are great dogs! Oh by the way antibiotic ointment on all pads of his bad foot may help. I put an old sock on my lab and tape it so brandy can't easily get the sock 0ff! Best wishes!

The very minute you choose to use any specific people(minorities) to target a similar group( of minorities) for whatever purpose you are generating a seperatist approach to what should be a unified hobby. You can't have equality when you do this. I hope this thread is terminated by the administrator for these very reasons.

If you want excellent service and turn around time on repairs, you can't beat D.A. I crashed a plane, sent the engine in for repairs. It was back in my hands in 10 days from the day I mailed it out!
