RE: Super Stearman
I had the same plane with a Saito 170 radial, a DLE 30 should fly it nice. You wont need more than 1/2 throttle most of the time. Valley View R/C recommends 18x8, 18x10, 19x8 & 20x8 for the 30. If you have the ground clearance a 20 x 6 or Vess 20A would be a good choice. That's a draggy air frame, you want a lot of pull but not much speed.

RE: How do you get that smooth finished look
ORIGINAL: jsevey I use Deft brand lacquer based sanding sealer. Build up a few coats and then lightly sand with fine paper between coats until the grain is covered. It drys extremely fast and you can apply several coats and sand in a single afternoon. Sands quickly and easily and comes off very powdery. I use this method for film covering, fabric and dope, or fiberglass. Comes in cans for brushing (my favorite- builds up quicker) or in spray cans. Clean up with lacquer thinner. Hope this is helpful. jim
Have you used this method on balsa covered foam wings? I would be scared the lacquer would find a crack in the sheeting and melt the core.

RE: Mid Wing Stick - 35cc
Here's my new version of the Road Runner. Its based loosely on the classic design. I shortened the wing from 96" to 84", changed the airfoil from a built up 15%/14% semi to a 14% fully symmetrical foam wing, enlarged the tail slightly and increased the fuse side area. I kept the moments and basic layout, while the main change was to update the design to more modern construction techniques. I've had the first one laser cut and am almost done with it. AA5BY if you're interested I can send you the CAD files. Modifying my design to mid wing would take a CAD guy about 10 minutes if you want to have it laser cut, or if you plan on cutting it yourself you can print the files and modify the parts as needed. Get with me directly at rcmigpilot@aol.com if you're interested.

Forgot to ask while I was there, who made the big hawks? Vernon's was a Hawk 100 in the Canadian scheme and there was a regular hawk in a British flag scheme. They looked great on the ground and even better in the air. Definitely want to put one of these on the short list for my next plane.
ORIGINAL: stonyZ hi as usual when i go looking for a kit i've wanted for along time they no longer make them.....does anyone know of another arc 1.20 size ultimate comparable to the patrick one? i want the white/red color so will have to be arc...thanks
I have a NIB Red Patrick Ultimate that I'd be willing to part with. It also comes with a Dave Brown spinner and the custom instrument panel, both also new. I'll take $325, plus shipping. E-mail me directly at rcmigpilot@aol.com if you have any interest. Also, the Goldberg Ultimate is not the same. It was designed by Dave Patrick, but the Goldberg is much smaller at 54" where the Patrick is 60".
ORIGINAL: jcflyboy The price is on the web site. $1275.00 plus shipping Craig[:D]
It's good to see the planes are available but it's too bad on the price, there just aren't enough hobby dollars. If it was $800 I'd go for it, but not $1275. I know the T-28 is bigger, but is it really worth double the price of one of the Yellow Aircraft warbirds? I'd really like to have one of these but I can get a Yellow P-47 w/gear and a new DLE 55 for about the same money. Lets face it for another $420 you can get a Comp ARF Corsair.

Byron/Ironbay T-28
Saw a Byron/Ironbay T-28 for the first time this past weekend and was very impressed. The specs don't do it justice, this is one very large and cool looking plane. Considering Ironbay's hit and miss reputation and the pretty steep, $1,495.50 shipped, price are there any other sources for a similar sized T-28 or does anyone know where there's one for sale?

RE: Turbine replacement parts source
Fair warning, I tried this very thing with my Ram 1000 and after new bearings, shaft, properly installed starter and just under $500 of my hard earned cash I got my motor back. In my case the improperly shimmed starter motor somehow rubbed and screwed up the preload on the bearings. The motor had barely an hour on it since new bearings. Before anyone makes a comment on Ram or the person who fixed the motor, the bearing failure was on the very next start up after replacing the starter motor. This might not apply to a Jet Central engine, but what if it does? What happens to your warranty? It looked like a cheap way to make what seemed like a simple repair, I was wrong and it cost me some $$. I'll never go the cheap route with one of my motors again. If it were me I'd pay the money to make sure its right.

How much can I get for my Boomerang XL II
I've got a Boomerang XL II that I've had for a few years and it's time for a change. I'd like to get a new Boomerang Torus but the XL will have to go first. I'd like to sell the plane without turbine or electrics but with the Spring Air gear, Digitech trailing link struts and Air Power wheels. The plane's got a few nicks but still looks good. If I can't get enough for the XL I'll tear it down, glass it and paint it in a different scheme. Trust me I know the economy is bad and that people are taking some pretty severe haircuts when the sell their stuff which is way I'm posing the question. So what can I get for my plane in this market???

RE: JPO Update on FAA
ORIGINAL: Mark Basel <p class=''MsoNormal'' style=''margin: 0in 0in 0pt''><span style=''font-family: Arial; font-size: 10pt''>Early this morning I saw a thread by an individual that suggested we boycott ''stores'' that sell UAV/UAS equipment. This guy was jumped on early and hard as a nut job. Now the thread is gone and I wondering exactly he was talking about? Unrelated to this I was also looking at BVM's web site and the latest required reading and good news. I Googled S.223 to read more of what this law would represent and came a crossed this web site.  <a href=''http://www.diydrones.com/''><font color=''#0000ff''>www.diydrones.com  They have just about every topic you care to look into about UAV/UAS systems. I believe this is a serious site, just as much as RCU. Right now the members appear to be spitting mad about the AMA ''back dooring the process'' with Senator Inhofe. Frankly I find it amazing what they are doing with UAV/UAS's on this site!!!! From just the little I have read, they are serious UAV/UAS enthusiast and are determined to block the Inhofe amendment and for a lack of better words are thumbing their collative noses at RC aviation.  Just my 2 cents and maybe the gentlemen has or had a valid point, unfortunately he was run out on a rail. I hope you all don't do that to me!!!! check out this website for yourself and make your own conclusions ,IMAO we need to continue to be proactive and not relax just yet. Also lets not be to quick to condemn others who use RCU for enjoyment and information, useful or otherwise.  Mark Basel<span style=''font-size: 10pt''>
According to the Library of Congress web page the the FAA appropriations bill to which the Inhofe amendment is attached passed the senate by a vote of 87 to 8 on 2/17. If the UAV guys don't like the amendment they'll have to find a way to have it pulled from the house version of the bill. If they change the bill in the house, it has to go back to the senate where it will undoubtedly be added back. Anybody else here think there's a chance that the UAV guys that have been flying under the radar (pun intended), acting like hobbyists, when they were really commercial concerns and now they're mad that they're going to have to play by the rules? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are some UAV hobbyists that will be adversely effected, but it kind of pales in comparison when you consider that, with a few exceptions, everyone in the AMA is a hobbyist.
