RE: Narrowing molded foams

Narrowing molded foams
Hey gents, a few months ago I bought 2 sets of Panther Green molded foams. These are very firm, and are monstrous in size compared to my tires. I'd like to narrow them, whats the best way? They can't be trimmed on the sides because that would shorten the sidewall. I did one foam by cutting it down the center, and trimming two 1/4" sections from the inside. What would be the best glue to use to bond them together? (Or did I just waste my time and $$$ doing it this way?) This is what I have: http://www.hopupplanet.com/shopcart.asp?pg=products&specific=jmonmononrd8

RE: Snapped crankshaft and now a damaged sleeve.
I think you should hire someone proficient in the use of a screwdriver that wont destroy everything they touch before you unpack that new engine [;)] Reminds me of when I lent my modded STS to my bash buddy. After 10 gallons it blew, he "tried" taking it apart and somehow destroyed the crankcase in the process- seems like the issue was the same as this one. I didn't care of course since the engine was a throw away for me, but couldn't help but wonder what the fudge happened that the block was so messed up haha.

RE: any idea when the new gas savage xl is released.
Ohemgee No more nitro, everyone's converting to this palm sized nutcracker. [8|] Bet $50 its going to be dogsh** slow- when it comes out in 6 months or more. I don't understand the hype, there is no new tech in this engine- its just smaller packaging of an age old design. 8 years/ nearly 20 gallons on my Savage/ 3 engines later (stock sold after 3.5/ STS blown after 10.5/ current Picco has well over 5)- nitro couldn't possibly smell or run better.

RE: Am I crazy
FYI it is possible for these engines to run backwards, its happened to me a few times while using the rotorstart and the tune being pig rich. As long as your OWB catches and it fires, you'll know pretty easily which direction is right.

RE: Low profile towers!
Damn thats a shame about your truck and gear [:o]. Good that you're trying to get somewhere with school though, good luck! Since I bought my Savage in 04, the thought of selling it has never crossed my mind. Its been the most consistent source of fun and relaxation in my life. I'm actually in the middle of rebuilding it now to get it ready for the first snowfall, almost there just an hour or 2 of work to go :D
ORIGINAL: Vigilante212 Well nitrohead your at the perfect age to start becoming a machinist :)
Ha I was just scrolling through the thread for old times sake and saw that. The funny thing is, I'm 3 years into getting my BS in mechanical engineering technology and planning on getting my masters in something similar like electro-mechanical or the like. 4 years later and I can operate manual and CNC equipment, I still need to learn NCL and become proficient with Mastercam, but I like inventor :D. Its just funny reading back and seeing something like that, the crazy thing is that its people like you guys who pushed me to go in the direction I did. Thanks guys :D. Again happy new year!

RE: Bulletproof differential questions...
Don't question it, just do it :). The fact is that the front will blow out in a matter of time, I've been running the BP diffs for a few gallons and no issues. Like you I have them in a Savage 25, though I think I may have possibly upgraded to the X diff cases when I did the swap. I would say just bite the bullet and do both at once, remember that the gears have different tooth counts so the rear will be overdriven. Its not a huge difference but its there. Yes you can use the S25 dogbones, I'm still running my stock dogbones from 2004. Its just like any other ring and pinion gear, there are no changes to the case itself. I remember that I did the upgrade maybe a few months after it hit the market, I payed around $70 to do the whole truck.

RE: suggestions on starting 25 savage after 2 years?
ORIGINAL: saucySavy woah the origional post changed completely. But on top of what rcnitrohead said you can also try to sand the shaft that the OWB fits on. Just enough to scratch the surface, which should give the bearing some extra grip. make sure you clean it completely before re-installing it, though.
I was going to mention that, but I figured its best not to- especially

RE: suggestions on starting 25 savage after 2 years?
Sounds like your one way bearing is soaked/ gummed up in oil and not catching. It sounds like a zinging and the engine doesn't turn over, remove the engine- take off the backplate. Remove the shaft with the hexagonal head, use brake/ oven cleaner or any good degreaser to clean the shaft. Reinstall and attempt starting, also using fuel with high oil content will make the bearing slip in short order. Try to stay under 12% oil content.

Backplate is in as of today. Yesterday someone tboned my car which cause me to slam into a parked car. My classic 2 seater pontiac is destroyed [:@]. I guess I'll be working on- and driving the Savage a lot now [;)]
ORIGINAL: pythonfan I don't mean to seem rude or anything but 46u you seem to be pushing rc boyz like mad, as if your advertising them or something? That thought didn't even come to my mind... 46u is a good guy, hes been here for a long time (all of us have)- think twice next time before posting.

I run plastic as well, I never stripped any until I started bending/ cracking engine plates. I'm hoping that'll come to an end with this new FLM plate.

I've used RCBoyz a few times, good prices and service. Jenny'sRCsport is great too, shipping is on the high side but I mostly do larger orders with them and combine it all.

RE: Its been a while RCU.. Help me rebuild my truck
I used to be all about light weight and having the quickest MT around, but these days I just don't have time to tinker with it so I just want a solid platform. Funny thing is that my truck was still the quickest one around here this summer with completely unbalanced/ wobbly tires. As far as the 3 speed, I've never owned one and never planned to buy one cause I know the 3rd gear is weaker.. But for this price I couldn't pass it up. I'm still running my all original tranny that came with my truck back in 04 after around 18 gallons :D I need to do research to see whats the best way to put my new foams/ wheels together so I don't have ballooning and foam degradation. I'm interested to see how the green panther foams I got will work, they're quite a bit firmer than stock.

Thats the plan, hell for $6 I'd be happy with just a tranny case haha. Still looking for a used or cheap new reverse module.

RE: Its been a while RCU.. Help me rebuild my truck
ORIGINAL: 46u The TVP chassis I run HPI does not make anymore but it is not a mid tank set up but motor transmission and so on set about 1/4 inch lower then on the X. Other then CF is the lightest chassis I know of.
I remember that one, I was actually looking for it when I started this thread and couldn't find it anywhere [:@]. Oh well I'll see how long this lasts. Right now I'm not all that concerned about lightweight, the truck is somehow heavier than a stock X. I still need the Picco backplate, I'll possibly be picking up a reverse module and 3 speed tranny for a spare. If I do end up getting reverse, I'll build a plow for the snow- I've always wanted to try it. Apart from that I was really pissed a week ago cause I was about to bid on a beautiful dodge ram body on ebay brand new for $35 shipped when for some reason ebay asking me for my p/w at the last few secs when I was going to sneak a bid in, someone else bid and I lost it [:@]. I can't wait to finally run some nitro again :D

RE: Its been a while RCU.. Help me rebuild my truck
Pics as promised: With exams and working on my real car, I won't have time to mess with the truck for another week. The plate appears to be the standard FLM thickness, just a solid type. It should definitely increase strength by at least 25%, hopefully it won't turn into a pretzel like the ones before it.

RE: Is this a good deal on a HPI Savage 25?
ORIGINAL: mudfrog The issue for me is since I'm new to the hobby I can't pick out those ''good deals''.  From what I saw on ebay every thing seemed over priced.  I offered the guy $170 on this Savage.  If he bites I'll get it, otherwise I won't.   Also talking to someone locally who has a Tmaxx for $200.  Said it had everything but a charger.. Forgive my ignorance but with them being nitro what is the charger for.  Aren't most pull starts?
What generation is the T-maxx? I'd only pay that much for one of the newest models.. If its a 2.5, its overpriced unless it has a good engine in it. Actually I'd say skip the maxx and go straight to the Revo. I've had 2 of the older 2.5 maxxes and they just can't take a beating. I dumped well over a grand in replacement and upgrade parts- it still kept breaking so I got rid of it at a huge loss. Keep posting up links so we can help you find a good deal.

RE: Is this a good deal on a HPI Savage 25?
ORIGINAL: SyCo_VeNoM
ORIGINAL: rcnitrohead The Savage 21 and 25s had beefier suspension arms/ uprights so they are more durable in that aspect. Apart from having a weaker engine, the only thing lacking on the older trucks is them having the old style ring and pinion gears for the differential.. These are fine with a stock engine, throw in a decent .28 and they'll get chewed up
