RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
They dont have any mesh size law yet but believe me they have all kinda stuff we have to add to our nets to please the gov. t.e.d.s. being the most costly we do Every state does have a net size like ms is you cant have larger than 5o ft of net span whether it be two 25s or one 50 not even worth my time messing with that small stuff I usuall pull 110 to 220 ft of net span depends on my depth

RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
Thanks, We use rollers to when the mud is real soft or when we go to Florida onlime bottom. We also use aluminum doors but they are really expensive and we loose them all the time catching sunkboats o pipelines going to oilrigs or whatever else we get hung up on lol!!. Im not real shure what a cod end is it has a tail bag that is tied with a trip not and the tailbag has shaffing gear around it. Sounds like your talking bout somthing like butter fishing or cod fishing the gear is alot alike. One thing I did notice in that diagram above is the nets wern't even we do drag them even the only one that isn't is the try net (the little net) if you dont the boat wonn't stear rite.

RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
Hey Ok im going to try and explain as simple as i can if you look at the dif pics you may be ablle to see what im talking about The two doors in the picture are connected to the what we call the bridle whitch is a branch of three 5/8" cables about 240 ft long spliced into a 7/8" inch cable called the main cable that cable runs from the doors to the block at the end of the out rigger through it and back to the wench drum. The doors are 10 ft long and 48 " wide and are used to spread the nets thats were the bridle comes in when everything is out on the outrigger and you are setting out one of the three cable is hooked to a door and the other to another and the center is connected to the bib of the net or the very top of the net. When the doors hit the water you apply the brake slightly on the wench and the force of the water and the boat moving spreads the doors and then you slowly let them down till they are where you want them the the net is connected to the doors there are four conners in a net and in each corner there in a leg line bout 4-6 ft long the top one goes to the top and and the bottom leg line goes to the bootom of the door and the same with the other door the doors ride on the bottom at maybe a 40 degree angle and and tilt back slightly then there is a chain that runs between the doors called a tickler chain when everything is on bottom doors are spread net is open the chain is about 1 ft in front of the net digging in the mud making the shrimp jump up and when they jump they either hit the top of the net wich is 4-14 ft off bottom just depends on how you got it rigged and what time of the year it is then by the time they try and go back to bottom the bottom of the net is under them and they are traped. im not real sure how you would get them out to the end of the outrigger with another servo but some of the smaller boats never put them on the deck they just let them hang while the outriggers are up

RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
Im so ready to get started Its called decked over when the deck and hull meet and form a cap and the frame comes a little higher than the deck and attach the bulwarks and cut supper hole so when water gets on the deck it just runs off and doesnt drain to the innerbottom. It may work i dont know it will be trial and erorr lol.im going to try my best to get it as close to our family boat as possible that hull desgn wayne has is the closest i have seen to it Im going offshore in bout a week for a month so it will have to wait til i get back then i will have 2 weeks of free time to get it done

RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
Yep If you look at one of the stern shots of the Harbor Light where the nets are hanging at the top of the stern boom You will see it hanging slack hooked to a turnbuckle it goes from there to the end of the outrigger

RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
No problem believe me im sure i will be asking alot of questions I can all the pics you want i think ima order my motor and all today what about stearing and all that do you need a specific one to go with a specific remote and i think ima put a few more batteries for balast if you had two in the 30 then on a boat 10" bigger ithink you could do at least two more that and i gues you order your shaft and all after you lay out the kill and get a mesurement im going back offshore in about a week for 28 days so when i come back i will have two weeks to build if i can go ahead an order stuff . My wife is going to miss me for real when i start this project lol!!

RE: Scratch Built Shrimp Boat.
ok just took the pics it was really windy and tried to get it done between rain squalls I got to get on two boats before it started raining again lol My wife is trying to upload them rite now when the weather gets better i can get some more. Som of the pics will show how the nets attach to the outrigger but like i say it depends on how detailed you want to get there is a block that attaches to the end of the outrigger and the main cable that is shackeled to the doors which are shackeled to the nets runs through it and runs back to the winch drum the doors are the wood part that spreads the net when it is in the water not sure if you knew what they were or not. The doors sit in a rack when the out riggers are up the pics should show it but look at them and you can ask me what it is our how to rig it and i can explain through the pics or if you need a more detailed shot i can do that to.
