RE: 4*120 Build Thread
ORIGINAL: acdii It's an ARF with the 2 piece wing, and I want to keep it that way,
Ah, gotcha. When ya mentioned the wing cracking at the center rib, I was thinking you had permanately joined the wing halves.

RE: 4*120 Build Thread
ORIGINAL: acdii I picked up the plane and walked back, then realized just how lucky an SOB I am. The left wing was cracked at the center rib. Had I done any hotdogging the wing would have come off for sure. I took some 30 minute epoxy and glued the rib back together and fixed the cracked leading edge, and its as good as new.
I'm guessing this is the ARF version? Do yourself a huge favor & glass around the center wing joint as per the kit version. The piece of mind is well worth the trouble. -rep

RE: LT-40 Kit Update: Bolt Wing Mount & Tail Dragger
SeamusG- The struts are the poorboy specials made from scraps i had laying around. Each side is two pieces of 1/8" lite ply cut to 1/2"x 16" epoxied together. On each end of both halves i routed a groove half the thickness of threaded rod w/ a short 90 degree bend to keep rod from turning or pulling out. (see pic 1). Then sanded the corners round, monokoted them & threaded on some clevises. One side is epoxied, (to keep strut from rotating) the other has a locknut. (adjustability) The attachment points on the wings are small brackets made from 1/16" aluminum screwed directly into the lower wing spar using smallest screw i had to not weaken the spar any more than necessary. (holes were CA hardened). (pic 2) The lower attachment point is another 1/16" aluminum bracket that screws across bottom of fuse & attaches to both L & R struts kinda like telemasters have. (Pic 3) I didn't really do any accommodating mods otherwise, since i don't consider them to be "functional" & wouldn't recommend using clevises on something that needs functioning struts. I've had them pop loose on occasion (while doing things trainers aint spose ta do of course, but still...). How's that clipped wing & dual servo version fly? Always wondered if that would wake up the roll rate a bit. -Rep

RE: Looking to upgrade to a faster more agile rc plane
Alex- Take a look at sig four star, or h9 pulse, Escapade, or goldberg tiger (which can be built as a taildragger). All are great 2nd planes (1rst low wing planes) and available in 40 or 60 sized ARFs. -Rep

RE: Covering Only Ultracote GP Extra 300S Chrome
ORIGINAL: SeamusG That notch - a place that will gather glow goo - I'm planning on doing a piece that stretches side-to-side with the front edge going up the exposed former and then lap over onto the bottom by no more than 1/8".
I was thinkin maybe sheeting the notch area w/ some balsa or thin ply before covering? Might be easier to form that inside corner at the former & less tendency for the covering to pull away from the former when shrinking.

RE: Engine placement.
Yes, i believe the mounts are symmetrical so it doesn't really matter which way you mount them. Just make sure that the surface facing upward, (the surface that the engine sits on) is lined up on the horizontal line. Check out your F-1 cross-section on the plans. -Rep

RE: Engine placement.
Lucious- I may be way off on this, but studying your pic & comparing to my 4star & plans, your mount looks about a half inch higher than mine. (assuming you're using the stock sig mount of course) Are you sure you have the topside of the mounting beams lined up w/ horizontal line & not the bottom? I'm showing the top of the mount should be about at the red arrow in pic.

Umm, that seems a bit odd. What engine are you using? I wouldn't alter the thrustline if you can avoid it. Gotta be some other way to deal with throttle linkage issues. Can you post a pic? -Rep

RE: Four star 60 build:
lucius- Do not use filler on your wing joint. You need to "tune-up" the mating surfaces of the wings with a block sander & try to get the fit a little better. Small gaps if within reason will be filled with epoxy when wing halves are clamped together. -Rep

RE: Another Sig Kadet LT-40 build.
Gary- Any chance you could have the charge jack plug hooked to your reciever? That would cause "backward switch" syndrome since the charge jack circuit only complete when switch is in the off position. Just a thought.
