RE: "OFFICIAL"Redcat Racing 1/8th BUGGY thread (not truck thread)
I bought my XP about 5 months ago and it came stock with the SH .28. I found it can be a little finickey, but very, very strong and Quick! I've wrecked mine bigtime and so far the only thing broken is one of the front u-joints. I could not be more pleased than I am with the buggy[:)][8D]

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
Hey, I'm kinda a newbie myself...only been in the sport since January. Let me tell you the things that I forgot to do while starting one of my trucks. First of all, and most stupid, I forgot to attach the glow plug ignitor before starting my truck one time. I have also tried starting with a glow plug ignitor not fully charged; I've had a fuel line crimped and/or damaged so it was sucking air, not fuel. If you go to the main thread " Redcat racing Support" and follow the links, there is a ton of info and help you can count on. I hope this helps. Pete

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
ehroof, that's a great idea...where do I find these 14mm extenders? I've got a set of Hot Bodies type BJ with 14mm hex and found a set of 12 to 14mm adapters, but the tires rub the body of my SV. If I can just get a little more width to the hex hubs, alot more rims will fit. Thanks, Pete

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
I have the Sv and it has the 08064 axle and the 08065 hex wheel nuts. I f you try to put a rim on, where the hex mounting in the rim is too close to the outside of the rim, the tire rubs the body. In other words the mounting hex in the rim must be almost in the center, as with the stock rims that came with it. I figure, if I can find extenders I then can mount other tires and wheels. If I have to replace the axle with a longer one, that's okay too. I hope this makes sense. thanks, Pete.

Ehroof, do you have any idea who might have 12mm to 12mm or 12mm to 14 mm wheel extenders? I want to put some larger tires on my Volcano SV, but cannot seem to find any extenders ! I would prefer 3/4 to 1". Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.Pete.

Our son, who is serving in the Air Force, was deployed yesterday to the middle east. He loves his country and the Air Force. He emailed us to let us know he was safe and said " it's unbelievably hot and dusty, but somebody's got to do the job!!!" God Bless the USA and all our armed forces!

RE: Sticky in the Pinch... did I kill my SH28?
It's basically the same as putting your car in neutral and slamming the throttle to the floor.....give it a minute or so and BANG, you've blown an engine. That's what the tranny is for. Still having a blast with my VolcanoSV and HurricaneXP. oh, and I ran slap into a manhole beside the street yesterday and did ZERO damage to to my XP!

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
I bought my Volcano SV in January, and couldn't be happier with it. Right out of the box it has started and run perfect. Once I broke in the engine, it starts first pull, every time. As far as I am concerned, it is just as good, if not better, than those R/C's costing twice as much. Check some of the older threads and there is bunches of info on clutch bells, tuning and mods. Good luck Volcano SV with tuned pipe and some upgrades and a failsafe; Hurricane XP, stock except monster truck wheels with hub extenders. Go Redcat

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
I bought my first Redcat Volcano SV in January, and positively loved it. I bought a Redcat Hurricane XP in March, and have had a blast with it! If you read this thread and any others too, to learn about R/C trucks and cars, there is a wealth of knowledge that is available. My buddies have Traxxas, and they spent a lot more than I did, and have had the same problems with, crash, fix and run. I am glad I went with Redcat!

ehroof, I've got another one for you. I let one of my buddies run my Volcano SV and in the process he broke the transmitter antenna. I've checked with Redcat and it's made by Futaba. I've gone to tower hobbies and they have ten or more Futaba antennas. This one has male threads on the end. Can you please help me? Oh, that's the first AND last time I let a buddy run one of my R/C's!! Thanks again,. Pete

RE: Redcat Racing Hurricane Thread
giddyuperic...I searched Highbanks webpage yesterday and you are correct, that they didn't have them . I ended up buying from Himotoracing.com. They were 15 bucks plus shipping. Better than Redcat, @25.00 bucks plus shipping. The reason for all this, is that I installed a set of HPI Dirt Bonz oversized tires with Ofna 30mm wheel hub extenders on my Hurricane XP. Talk about bad to the bone! The first time I ran it I slung off both rear tires and lost a hub pin in the process. I have since re-glued the tires and am waiting for the pins to run again. When I get my digital camera installed on my pc ( its on my wife's pc), I'll post some pics. Thanks again! Pete

RE: Redcat Racing Hurricane Thread
Thank you for the info on Kyosho. It took a while, but I found the hubs and pins for a Himoto , that used the exact same part number as Redcat #81011. I had to order from Hong Kong, but at least I found them. [:)] I've had other bad experiences dealing with hobbytown, and am glad I'm not the only one! I feel as though if you haven't bought your R/C from them, they won't give you the time of day...one day, it will catch up to them. Thanks again, Pete.

RE: Redcat Racing Hurricane Thread
ehroof, I've got another question. Where in the world do I find the Hub pins for my Hurricane XP? I "miked" the diameter and it is .102. I've searched the internet and gone to Hobbytown (and by the way, these are some of the most arrogant jerks I've ever met...they told me today, they didn't have these pins and that's what you get for buying a Redcat product! Nice guys!) At any rate I've fab'd one using my work shop, but would like to get the correct ones. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Pete

What type of glowplug should I run in my XP with SH28 engine. And by the way, rclynx, my fuel tank was not sealing properly, that's why the engine was running so poorly. Now she's running great!

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
Redcat took way too long to reply about the manifold screws, so I went to Hobbytown and they sold me some 3mmx30mm cap screws. I installed them tonight WITH threadlock and hope to run my Volcano SV tomorrow. Has anyone else had a difficult time with Redcat customer service or is it just me? I had the online help, hold me up about 20 mins and then went offline. When I emailed customer service, I had to pass an anti-spam test....Wow, never had that happen in all the online transactions I've made over the years.

RE: Redcat Racing Hurricane Thread
The next nice day, I will try the heat cycling method to break in this engine. Be honest with you, there was no mention (even at the factory website) of heat cycling the engine during breakin. But it makes sense though and I have read other threads about this method. When I broke in my .18 infinity engine I just ran five or six tanks of fuel through it at low to moderate speeds and she' a real horse when it comes to starting and running. Many thanks for the suggestions....it is much appreciated by this retired 64 year old KID. I've had more fun with these RC trucks/buggys than I've had in a long time! Redcat rocks!!

RE: Redcat Racing Hurricane Thread
Nope I haven't touched any of the settings on the carb....and have been breaking in the engine at idle or very slow speed, as was recommended. Appreciate your thoughts and tech help. I can't see how I could have overheated the engine at these slow speeds, but will continue to work with it until I've run three full tanks of fuel through it. I'll keep you updated.

RE: Redcat Racing Hurricane Thread
Can anyone tell me why my SH28 in my Hurricane seems like it looses its fuel supply half way through a tank of fuel? When this happens, it becomes very hard to start even if I prime the carb...I haven't run but two tanks through it, because its so darn difficult. Or.....is this just part of the process of breaking in? Also, do I leave the plastic cover on the air filter while running? Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I just purchased a Hurricane XP with an SH28 engine. I ran it the first time today, to start breaking in the engine. Seems like tons of power and the handling was great. I really think I'll need wider and bigger tires/wheels. Any idea where I should look? I also have a Volcano SV which is one totally awesome truck. Many thanks.

RE: Redcat Racing Volcano Thread
Glad to see a volcano thread only. I want to buy some spare glow plugs for my vertex .18 engine. The plug that came out of it appears to read y3. The guy at hobbytown sold me a Mccoy mc59. When I matched it up to the one that came in the engine, it has much longer threads. I'm thinking it will strike the top of the piston if I use it. One thread said to use OS A3. A little help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. Sure will be glad when weather clears so I can run my truck! Redcat Volcano Sv .18 vertex
