RE: Two Stroke Oils
By the way, I'm not insulting the thread starter. There are many choices of oil and most work well. It's just that people have some kind of religious devotion to their oil and anyone else who chooses a different oil or insults their oil is automatically wrong. Same goes with automotive oil. I have always used what works for me.

RE: Ignition Module failure
+1 on the RcExcel. They are wonderful. I went thru several seasons of head scratching with my Chinese Engines. Turned out that a swap to RcExcel cured my troubles! Look at rcextremepower.net. He is great to deal with. Good service and a great source for knowledge.
ORIGINAL: CAT POwer Several people went through PTE ignition's on 5cell's  but doing ok on 4cell's If the RCEXL is working for you keep in there alot more reliable
Ran 40 ounces thru it today. I am leaving in the RcExcel ! I have three hours on it now. Starts easily. Have not idled it yet except for short periods. I'm going to see how the idle is next. I only wish it had a single bolt prop though. It's a pain to drill a prop!

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
ORIGINAL: CAT POwer The PTE ignition does not like a 5cell ( full charged 6.6 + ) .. anything over 6 volt and will burn out,   a 4cell ( fully charged 5.6 + ) should be used ...... as I was told
The manual and also Red Wing RC Website says max 7.2 volts. I think I read or heard somewhere, maybe Troybuilt Models Site, that 6 volts was max. Nothing like conflicting information! I think I will set my IBEC unit to 5.3 or so. As of now I am running an RcExcel Ignition on mine. May leave it on since I know they are reliable.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
Shipped my original PTE Ignition back for replacement. Installed an RcExcel and she fired right up. My mixtures had to be leaned quite a bit from the settings used with the old ignition. My poor and inconsistent idle is now gone. It idles great. My original ignition must have been weak before it failed outright. It was a direct replacement using the PTE Sensor. I'm happy again!

RE: 2 Cycle fuel mixture
Great! 3W makes great engines, if a person can afford the initial cost. In the long run you will come out ahead. I have a very old 60cc 3W, not sure it's age but at least 6 years and it still runs perfectly. I think it may take longer to break in on synthetic but I don't see that as a problem.

RE: 2 Cycle fuel mixture
+1 on the stabilizer. I use Stabil in all my fuel that way if it sits it doesn't matter. Have had 2 stroke fuel in a jet ski for 10 months and it started and ran fine with that old fuel in it. I believe Stabil also has cleaner and anti rust agents in it also.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
ORIGINAL: gunny11 Sounds like the problem that I had. I first changed out the cap to an rcexel but it did the same thing. So I just used a spare Rcexel ignition module.
Gunny, So the standard RcExcel Ignition works? Does it use the PTE Crank Sensor? My Ignition gave up the Ghost after a little over an hour on the stand breaking it in.

RE: Has anyone tried the new PTE36R ?
Got my PTE36 last month. With a little more than 1 hour of run time my idle became erratic. WOuld surge and act like it was going to stall. Adjusting the low end was hit or miss. Then it stalled and would not restart. No spark! Tried a new plug, no spark. Tested the crank sensor and it was fine. Tested the ignition unit with an RcExcel tester and no spark. FYI, I'm using a 5 cell nimh to power it. Before this happened the engine ran great. What a beast! Emailed Milehigh Rc where I bought the engine about the problem. Have no doubts they will make it right. They have been great in the past! Sure glad I decided to break it in on the stand instead of on my new 71 Slick!

RE: AMSOIL SABER 100:1 PRE MIX SYNTHETIC 2-CYCLE OIL AND AMSOIL QUICK SHOT FUEL ADDITIVE
It's funny what happens anytime someone posts about oils. Instant war! I have used Amsoil for 27 years. Mostly in my cars, boats, jetskis, chainsaws, weedwacker, leaf blower and now that I have gone gas 3 years ago my rc engines. I have had zero problem with any of them. I have a 1984 McCulloch weed wacker that to this day runs great. I have run it on 80:1 to 100:1 for the last 15 years. All my 2 strokes run great on the Saber Oil. Use what works for you. For me Amsoil Products all work very well. Many flyers in my club use Amsoil and love it.

RE: ParkZone Spitfire Mk IX !!!
Just did my first three flights today. What a beautiful plane! My struts are not here yet for my retracts but it flew great with the fixed gear. A park flyer it is not! Uses a lot of real estate in a hurry! Was very surprised at the flight time on the standard battery. My last flight was almost 7 minutes and used less than half the battery. I flew at a park that was none too large and had to land between rows of trees. No problem. The plane handles great and was very controllable. Hope to get my retracts in soon! Great job Parkzone!

New JR Radios
What's the new JR DMSS all about. Have several versions of the 9503 including the DSMX Version and the DSM2 version. Are these new transmitters compatible with Spektrum? Don't see that it is.

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
I don't know of an advantage to the CM6 other than many of us use them in our 50cc engines so we only need to keep one type of plug on the shelf for spares. Since the CM6 plug is much shorter it does make getting the cowl on and off easier on my planes. I got my adapters from RCExtremepower.net

RE: MLD-28 gasoline engine
Since the Ignition change to RcExcel my MLD 28's just keep getting better. Flew my 3D Hobby Shop Extra 330 again today. As I have dialed in the needle's the performance has gotten better and better. Outstanding power today even in upper 80's temps and humid. For a cheaply priced engine they run great. Yes it has been a headache getting thru the ignition maladies but I was stubborn and did not give up. I'm very happy with them now. I have two flying and both are running great. Got to change the ignition it seems!

RE: Need guidance on purchasing a charger
I too have read many horror stories about Hobby King. I have not had any problems with them. As a plus they have such a huge selection of everything! I have six of the Accucel 6 Chargers and use them on A123, Nimh, Lip0 and Lead Acid. They have worked great. They are small and easy to carry. If I want to charge multiple planes I put a charger next to each of the planes I'm charging. Very convenient. I have made a number of power supplies from pc power supplies as power sources for the chargers when in the shop.

RE: Great Trainer
Last year I thought about all the wasted training time spent in trying to get the students own trainer flight worthy. I bet I spent an hour of time working on their plane for every 1/2 hour of flight time. This year I think we will start them on my electric trainer to get them some stick time before we worry about their own plane.

RE: MLD-28cc Ignition Box question
You are correct. I have put many flights on mine since my post and they are running great. There are more powerful engines out there but these are very smooth and inexpensive. Well worth the $50.00 ignition investment. Very frugal on fuel as well.

Great Trainer
I have trained a great number of people with many different planes. Last weekend someone asked me to test fly their plane. It was a Flyzone Sensei Electric Trainer. I fly 30cc gas aerobats, 50cc aerobats and everything in between. When I flew this plane I was amazed! It is the best flying trainer I have flown. No bad habits at all. It does not fly like the typical floaty trainer. I handles very smoothly. Takes off very easily and lands like a feather. Liked it so much I ordered one to put students on. Comes ready to fly or as a receiver ready. Only two screwdrivers need for assembly. No glue at all! It rolls, does loops and flys inverted well. All this and is very docile as well. Amazing amazing plane. Flyzone hit a home run with this one! It also has a servo operated bomb bay on it. If you are a beginner this would make a super plane for you. As always don't try to learn alone. Have an experienced instructor on a buddy box to help you. If you heed this advice you will be flying in no time. Watch the videos on youtube.
