RE: Mobil DTE Light Oil or similar
A lot of us are using DTE light in our turbines without any problems, e-mail Roger the JMA sec and he should be able to give you details of a supplier. Rob

RE: Time to take the leap - JR12X or Futaba 12FG
I've just gone from DSX9/DSX11 to 12fg at first the programming was weird after years of JR and the manual is a guide but only just. However after a couple of weeks and programming a couple or turbines and other models I'm beginning to get my head round it. The Futaba is even more flexible than the DSX11, you can make any switch do what you want or more than one thing if you want. It has all the functions that I can think of on a DSX11 and more on top. Signal is typically Futaba rock solid, which is why the change has been forced on me after the second time my 8 month old DSX11 has gone back for replacement of the RF board. Rob

RE: JMA Long Marston Jet Meet July 14th-15th
Big thanks to Geoff White for maidening my F-16, I figured he didn't think it was too bad as after a couple of trimming circuits he proceeded to tear round at low level. A couple of things to sort out and all should be good. Well done to the JMA for organising a relaxed enjoyable weekend . Rob

RE: Running a turbine at full power non stop? Damaging?
Mine only has the 2 tanks and a UAT, fuel weighs about 4.5lbs so all up weight with full fuel load is about 22.5lbs. I chose the series plumbing after reading the review done in RCJI a few years ago as the the writer felt that the tanks were so close together it wouldn't make too much difference to the flying, lets hope he's right. It meant that you didn't need to to have the identical lenght tubing from each tank as with the UAT being on one side would mean making a loop in one side to lose the extra length. I did compensate by increasing the size of the tank brass tubing and drilling out both clunks to improve flow/reduce frictional losses. There was no noticeable effect on flying so far. As for the P100 it starts easily and smoothly, responds to the throttle really well , all you could want . Rob

RE: Running a turbine at full power non stop? Damaging?
Thought I might be able to help here, I have a Jet Legends 1/8th F-16 with a P100 which had its maiden flights yesterday at the Long Marston JMA bash. The tanks are plumbed in series and are 2.6litres or 88ozs(US) First flight was 6mins 40 secs (pretty accurate as a friend took a video) firstly trimming , then general flying to see how the plane responded,on landing the second tank had only just started to be used. Second flight with a little more spirited flying of 7minutes and the second tank was just under half full at the end. The F-16 wieghs 18lb without fuel. 7 minute flights with a reasonable reserve looks likely to be about right as with the P100 you really don't need to use full power much except for vertical climbs. Hope these figures help. Rob

RE: New DLE 20 won't start
If you haven't already swap the stock DLE spark plug for a NGK CM-6, the DLE plugs are notorious for failing/not working/falling apart etc. Other than that a great little engine. Rob

RE: Need some info please; saito 150 glow VS dle 20 gas............
Ok here are my thoughts as I own DLE's and Saito's. Durability, DLE 20 so far so good but they are relatively new compared to Saito so only time will tell, Saito have a good track record, all mine just keep going very occasionally I check the tappets and then I go fly, never had one break on me yet. Once set up I never really have to do anything to either engine. Once run in properly neither engine needs any more twiddling of needles. I cannot remember when I last had a deadstick with the Saito and have never had one with the DLE. The Saito 150 may be a little more powerful than the DLE20. Running costs are where the gas engines win, they are frugal on fuel and cheaper than methanol. The other consideration is the clean up after flying, all my Saito's are pretty messy leaving an oilly mess on the airframe, the gas engines only leave some sooty spots to be wiped off. Which one is better? Ha Ha I'm not going to get sucked into that argument, I have been pleased with both engines, but these days any airframe that needs anything more than 15cc/90 size I'm looking at a gas engine for it. Good luck Rob

RE: ROTO25V or DLE30
Not a 25 but I do have a Roto35 and a DLE 30. For sheer reliability the Roto is superb and plent powerful enough, nothing wrong with the DLE either. If your site is noise sensitive the Roto with its stock silencer is pretty good , you will need a better muffler with the DLE. The Roto engines are well made and compact but will cost you more. Rob

Jet Legend 1/8th F-16 door rams
Hi, Can anyone tell me what size door rams they have used on the JL 1/8 F-16, space looks pretty tight particularly for the front . Any help appreciated. Rob

RE: YT International Adrenaline 120
Have you set your CofG according to YT's addendum that recommends 140mm from the leading edge and no more than 145mm. Mine (the composite fus model) has two 4 cell subC packs right behind the engine in front of the bulkhead to get the CofG right. At least better than lead, at 140mm I'm quite happy with the balance of the drenny. Rob

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Hi raptureboy, Looking at your set up I would use a solid servo wire rod with a ball joint at the carb end, seems a lot of fiddling around to use fishing trace and then rely on the butterfly spring to close the throttle. The pictures seem to show a good straight run from servo to throttle arm so that would look the way to go. The carb butterfly has a large movement , you'll need a longer arm on the servo end and or move the ball joint nearer the pivot at the carb end. Great engine you won't be disappointed. Rob

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
I flew the Adrenaline with the DLE20 (See post 534 on page 22) for the first time yesterday. The engine ran faultlessly started easily and only needed minor adjustment to get the transition right. Cooling was good , thanks to Tman49 for the advice. The model came out at 11lbs 3ozs which is way above the 9.5 lbs that the manufacturer claimed, how they got it that light I don't know as I had to put both batteries (sub c cells) right behind the engine to get the CofG right. That said she flew really well the stall was a non event and landings were easy and smooth. I used a zoar 17 X 6 wood prop and I'm going to try a 17X8 to see how the motor handles it Everyone that saw and heard the DLE 20 at the field were impressed with its ease of use. One happy owner[:)] Rob

I have opened up the front to get more air in and have a suitable (Ihope) size opening in the bottom cowl. Thanks for the reminder

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
The Pitts silencer is marketed as a DLE made part for the 20 & 30 along with some cannister style silencers. Its probably made for the DLE 30 primarily, as I had to elongate the mounting holes slightly to line up with the bolt holes in the engine. I,ll run the motor without the cowl first to see how hot the silencer gets as I may have increase the clearance round it to save burning the fibreglass

RE: What Aircraft are you installing your DLE20
Hi This is a YT Adrenaline 120 ,( made by ESM )that I have fitted with the DLE 20, the install was a breeze the biggest poroblem was deciding on the silencer/muffler. Originally I was going to use a can but at 2 inches in diameter and 12 inches long there was no way I could get a tidy install so I went with the pitts. I figured that the standard box that comes with the engine would be way too noisy. The plane has a wing span of 68" and all up weight about 11 lbs. Originally I was going to fit a Saito 125 but having read this and the other thread I thought the DLE would be ideal and cheaper on fuel. Just waiting for a break in the weather to run the engine up and then give it a test flight Rob
