RE: DDD head for ST75/90 four bolt head.
I'll second that. The DDD ST90 is a great powerhouse. I bought my ST90 directly from Bob Davis at a good price when I bought his DDD conversion head.

RE: Carb upgrade for PAW .40?
I have the PAW 0.49 TBR RC. Slightly larger than the 0.40, but I want to try the MVVS carb. Is there a part number or reference number for the MVVS 20-40 RC carb that you used? Thanks.

RE: Carl Goldberg Extra 330 ARF
Pakratt - Still have my Goldberg Extra 330 ARF. Installed your fuselage strengthening mods that you posted last year on the thread big thanks! :-) Replaced original aluminum landing gear with carbon fiber mains and tail wheel. Powered by RCGF 45cc (rear carb), Hitec 5625 and 5645 servos, A123 2200ma flight pack. Original blue/white covering needs to be replaced - probably this winter. Ron

Uhh, sorry for jumping in late and asking a dumb question, but here goes. What is the Hobbico/Futaba "FTR" product line? I can't find anything mentioning "FTR" on Futaba, Hobbico or Tower websites... (Please keep any flaming to a tolerable level.) :-P ...Ron

RE: Hobby King Orange FASST receiver 8 channel
This thread really should be re-posted in the radio control systems forum. Lots of discussion is found in that forum about this product.

RE: Hobby King Orange FASST receiver 8 channel
On the Orange FASST reciever product webpage (there are 2 versions, pick yours) on HobbyKing.com, scroll down just past the product description and before user comments and there are webpage tabs to select various view, like "videos" and "files". Select "files" and there you will find the product manual in PDF format. By the way, these Orange FASST receivers are repackaged FrSky receivers, so you can also download the manuals from "www.FrSky.com". The jitter problems can be caused if 1) you have the receiver set to "fast" mode - intended for digital servos only but have analog (regular) servos connected; 2) have fail safe enabled on the TX side. The (slim sized) manual explains this. Hope this helps.

RE: Futaba 12 FG Dummies Guide
Bax, Does your team have plans to produce more videos of the "Futaba Programming 101" series by Steve Kalauf? Those two were worth their weight in gold. Steve explained the "WHY" of the basic setup, and the visual demonstration of "HOW" it was done in the Futaba menu system was worth many 1000s of printed words. Maybe one or two for airplanes on simple setup of dual aileron configuration including aileron differential or flaperons, and another two or so for heli setups covering swash and maybe power configurations. Thanks...Ron K (12FG owner)

RE: Futaba 12 FG Dummies Guide
Rare, Your post reads just like mine did at the start of this thread! I know your frustration. I wanted to fly not fiddle with a transmitter. But I printed out Malcolm Holt's notes, and the FAQ about setting up an aerobatic airplane, and after following Steve Kalauf's training videos, I spent several hours becoming familiar with the 12FG. After about 2 hours the light turned on for me. No looking back now.

RE: Futaba 12 FG Dummies Guide
Futaba's 8FG/12FG/12Z/14Z line of transmitters, unlike their older and simpler line (7U/8U/7C/9C/10C), is immensely much more flexible and configurable. The Futaba factory manual is typically a basic explanation of functions but not how to program more complex aircraft. Several knowledgable authors have written excellent after-market manuals for the 8U, 9C and 10C. No author has yet attempted the newer 8FG and 12FG transmitters. BUT the FAQ sections for the various transmitters on www.futabarc.com website answer a very large number of application questions. Have you tried the FAQs? Also there is the RCU Futaba factory support forum, and they do answer programming questions.

RE: Futaba 12 FG Dummies Guide
Jenson, Please see my post #175, earlier. I found that Malcolm Holt's "8FG user notes" an excellent explanation about how to approach understanding the programming for the 8FG and 12FG line. Search in this thread for the location of Malcolm Holt's document (PDF file). It will help clear the fog. It did for me. Ron K

RE: valid carb tuning technique
Interesting variation om Walbro tuning from "GringoPete" at BP Hobbies.
ORIGINAL: gringopete <div style=''margin: 0in 0in 10pt''><span style=''line-height: 115%; font-size: 10pt''>I'll see if I can answer a couple of questions here. Hope this helps everyone in the tuning and troubleshooting their engines. The following applies to just about any engine that uses a Walbro type carb. ... here is the easiest way to set the needles on the engines. 1) Start by turning out both the high and low needles 1 5/8 to 1 3/4 turns. 2) Go full throttle and peak the high end with the high speed needle valve. When the engine sags you have gone too far. Back the needle off 1 hour or 1/12 of at turn. 3) Go full throttle and peak the engine using the low speed needle valve. When the engine sags back off the low end needle 1 hour or 1/12 of a turn. That’s right peak the engine using the low end needle. The reason for this is that the engine gets fuel from both needles once the engine comes off of idle. 4) Bring the engine down to idle. Adjust the low end rpm idle with the trim on your transmitter. The engine should not need any adjustment at this point. The engine at this point should be almost perfect. It should transition from low to High speed without any burps. If the engine does not run good after this setup look for an air leek, bad reed valve or carb diaphragm.
RE: RCGF Engines
Gregg P Just bought the RCGF 26CC for my 1.20 YAK 54. Plan to use 18/8 prop. [:D] 1) Do I need to use the 3 small prop bolts, or can I just use the center prop bolt? 2) The YAK has a large spinner - do you sell a center-drilled center prop bolt for attaching a spinner - or an alternative method?

RE: Imaa great planes dr1
Great flyer. Had one for 5 years before passing it to a friend. Tried a .40 sized 2-stroke but that was too anemic. Replaced with Magnum .80 4-stroke that could swing a 13-inch propeller - MUCH better! I thought at one that Great planes had manuals online of discontinued aircraft. Did you check there or at Tower website?

RE: commerical model diesel fuul??
Hi Bill, Since I just saw your post on the forum, I'll respond here and send an email as well. I'll be flying my diesel powered Sig Kadet Senior on Saturday morning (July 30) around 9:00am at the Ft Worth Thunderbirds' field on Lake Benbrook, off Rt 377, just south of the City of Benbrook. I will be there until about 1:00pm. If you have the opportunity to join me then, please drop by with your diesels. I'll be happy to work with you. I will bring my engine test stand and an extra can of diesel fuel. If this isn't convenient, we can meet up later in the week. Ron Kosar 817-851-3901 r.kosar@att.net

RE: what was your first radio system?
1966 - Controlaire single-channel "pulse proportional" with Rand galloping ghost actuator- woo-hoo!. Galloping ghost was a big improvement over my friends' single-channel with (rubber-band driven) escapements. First radio with consistent operational performance was 1971 Heath Kit 4-channel proportional radio which worked great. Finally in 1973 bought a "real" radio, Kraft 5-channel (Sportsman?) for about $450. 10 years ago settled on Futaba. Lost of memories... UPDATE: For those of us not familiar with that amazing 1960's advance of RC known as "galloping ghost" (i.e., pulse proportional), here is a video from YouTube showing the operation of the Rand Galloping Ghost actuator. The pulse proportional RC system got its nickname, "galloping ghost", from its pulsing flight controls. Hey, it worked! www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBSRmlIGSWQ

RE: Futaba 12FG edit button
Ozzieflyer:  It is a fine system. Since you will be coming from familiarity with JR programming method, may I suggest what helped me quickly learn the 12FG programming method? First follow the examples in the two short training videos, Futaba Programming 101 and 102, by Steve Kalauf about basic programming found on Hobbico/Futaba's channel on YouTube.   Then read through Malcolm Holt's 8FG programming addendum several times with your 12FG to work some examples. (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17524160&postcount=1750) Finally work through the examples in the Futaba FAQ "12FG Basic Start Up Info" (http://futaba-rc.com/faq/faq-12fg-q1151.html). When you finish programming the example/tutorial for setting up an aerobatic fixed wing aircraft in the 12FG Basic Start Up Info FAQ document, then its programming approach should be easy for you.  Additional FAQ updates for Futaba radios:   http://futaba-rc.com/new.html
