RE: Should I Be Worried?
sorry but the Past for some of this is less than two months, we had a member lose a plane about a month and a half ago due to a spektrum rx failure, and i'm sure horizon will replace it when/if the plane is ever found just like they did the other four and within the last TWO years we have had six different members lose airplanes due to the DXi6 radio problems, to me, the spektrum problems are too severe to pat them on the back and say "good job"

i'l agree with Gray Beard and add that they no longer make a 5 channel rx, or at least I can't find one on horizons web site, that would be a bad sign for me

RE: Alpha Trainer Problems
our club has one of these that we use as a club trainer, you'll want to get somebody that has expereience with the PTS trainer engine, it has some funny little tricks to it. might try looking in the glow engine forums for some more advice http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6785271/anchors_6814279/mpage_1/key_/anchor/tm.htm#6814279

RE: CMP models
a friend had one and lost it due to a tip stall, main problem is it doesn't have flaps amd really needs them. other than that it flew great, just keep the power up on landing

RE: dx5e Buddy box
our club uses the dx5/dx5 comdination, works fine, when seting up the trims, after trimming the plane out with the master and with the plane on the ground, not running, hold the trainer switch down on the master and watch for movement on the control sufaces, adjust the trims on the slave until you don't see any movement when engaing the slave box,

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
ORIGINAL: jester_s1 Wow, the guy with the turbine is a better story than either of mine. I would have explained the regulations and the reasons for them. If he still didn't get it, I'd mention that no AMA field will allow turbines without the waiver, and he isn't likely to find a suitable runway and flying space without an AMA club. Then offer to start him on the process of gaining the skills he needs. If he accepts, you get a new club member. If he leaves, you probably come across a good deal on an unused turbine on Craigslist a few weeks later.
all that was explained, still didn't help, he was determined to fly the jet and only the jet. is it considered rude to fall on the ground laughing in these situations?

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
don't get me wrong, I have no problems with someone who wants to learn on their own, there's many success stories. it's the guy that comes to the field with a turbine, (true story) and after asking all the above questions, and all his answers are no, no experience flying, no sim time, etc etc, he bought it off ebay, then when you tell him he has the wrong plane to learn with, plus nobody in the club has a turbine waiver and show him an LT40 or an alpha 40 and his response is, "those planes are too ugly" what you do? what do you say?

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
i learned on the p51 mk1, strongly suggest it more for the younger generation lol, but we actually had a guy show up at the field with one of those 2ch planes wanting to learn how to fly with it, but that's just it, some of these retailers or manufactures are the cause behind some of the problem if not most of it. labeling/selling planes as "beginner" aircraft

when I goggle RC airplane, the first thing that comes up is nitroplanes then bannana hobby, this is one of bannana hobbys "beginner" aircraft; http://www.bananahobby.com/1254.html if you scroll down and read under FEATURES, it says "best choice for beginner"

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
ORIGINAL: lopflyers What?? I didn't know they are planes that comes in a teach yourself to fly, box. Preposterous. I started a thread in the Begginers forum about my opinion on self teaching. I think it's impossible. To do a couple of laps and land successfully doesn't mean you know our hobby.
agree totaly, but if memory serves me correctly. even Horizion's "old" website have a catagory "teach yourself to fly", included the Alpha 40,60, mustang pts, raptor, however now I see they use the wording, "once you've mastered the basics with the help of a flight instructor". then theres websites that consider this a trainer; http://www.nitroplanes.com/93a400-skytrainer400-black-arf.html

[:D] anyway back to jesters problem, kiwibob proably gave the best advice for him, be polite but blunt, if the being taught by an instructor is not for them, then so be it. saves alot of time and energy of jesters behalf. it's how our club does it

bogbeagle, i apolgize if it seemed like I was bashing you, I was pointing out what jester and many intructors are up against. and i totaly agree. each person is in this hobby for their own (wait for it) "reasons" and as long as long their reasons doesn't affect how others enjoy it, "let em be"

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
ORIGINAL: bogbeagle ''Somehow, there's a good reason why they shouldn't do the hobby the right way '' I do think that you made a desperately negative comment, there, jester. I expect that you'll be taken to task over it.
bogbeagle: go back to post 70, these are the people that jester is talking about, they always have a "reason" for needing to learn by themselves, which is fine, but then they show up at the field asking for help and not wanting to hear what their told. or go to the clubhouse threads, there a several "club vs outlaw" threads and read all the different reasons people come up with for not being part of a club, rarely will you read, I just don't want to be part of a club, clubs are just not my thing, they all have their "reasons". "outlaws" should not bash clubs and vice versa, the two don't mix well and need to stay seperate

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
ORIGINAL: mikeh251 find out you have to pass all these tests and rules and all that sort of stuff.  Pretty intimidating I would think!!!
yes it can be very intimidating, as in an earlier post, someone said different fields have rules due to their surroundings, we have five fields here, 3 are run by clubs, one is open to anyone, an one is super secret hush hush, many pilots belong to all or a couple, but still, they all have different rules for good reasons, one club has no instructor but some of the guys will help, but it's not the best instruction and they turn you loose as soon as they can, but their out in the middle of nowhere and don't have boundaries, our field is in the middle of town along the river and owned by the city who in turn has placed "rules" on us, including a "fly zone" and more than once I've heard "The other fields don't make us do that" most rules I would say are to keep the field and not control issues as many think. doesn't take much to get a field shut down

RE: How to trim without subtrim
ORIGINAL: Stixoz I'm not very familiar with thrust lines etc but i did notice from the start there is a 2mm gap between spinner and cowl at the top and a 3.5mm gap at the bottom. I fuelproofed after i mounted the engine mount so i didn't mess with alignment. If my engine is pointing ''up'' to much wouldn't that give me the opposite problem to what i'm having? Thanks in advance Stix
i have a few arf planes with the engine thrust angle "built in" but still had to add a small amount of down thrust to the engine

RE: How to handle the guys with flawed plans?
it doesn't really matter to me whether you want to join a club or learn by yourself. all I ask, and I think what the op may be asking is, IF you go to a club, show them respect and obey their rules.
