RE: hangar 9 F22 raptor rebuild
I have the same parts stashed somewhere from similar crappy performance. Love what you did witht he PVC, can you post details of the re-build? I would love to resurrect those parts gathering dust. Thanks!!

RE: Wanting to get started.
I will second most of the advice given here with one very important addition. Lose the link to Nitroplanes...their quality is very hit and miss and the money you think you are saving you will spend repairing or upgrading the equipment you buy from them. Tower Hobbies is a much more reliable online store, the quality is higher (as are the prices). But for someone new to the hobby, go the used route, you'll get more for your money.

RE: RX cooling
I'm still flying 72 MHZ and I do it as much because I always have and to add a layer of insulation from vibration. I know it's not likely that a plug will vibrate loose, but for a little foam, I like the insurance.

No, I wrap all my RX's in foam before installing.

RE: Red Tails the movie
If you look at the movie as more of a tribute to the Tuskegee Airmen rather than totally historically accurate, you will enjoy it immensely. If you go just to point out all of the parts that were a bit "glamorized", don't waste the money on the popcorn. I saw the movie this past Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed it for what it was. As an unbelievable bonus, I had the honor of meeting a Red Tail pilot after the show who was in the audience. When I asked him if he enjoyed the movie, he replied, "It was pretty good but it didn't begin to show everything we went through." I took that to mean the bigotry and the challenges they faced to be accepted as pilots. It was a very emotional experience to actually meet a piece of living history.

RE: I Dont Have IT
I agree with everyone here, your instructor should have never hand you the transmitter. His job on the first flight was to trim the plane and test its airworthyness then land and inspect the plane for any anomalies. The next flight is on a buddy box or no next flight...no options. As for being embarrassed, don't be...during my training, my wings decided to separate during flight turning the fuselage into a missile. My instructor nervously laughed as we walked out to retrieve the scraps while the peanut gallery made their comments about the spectacular impact. Upon inspection of the wings, turned out I didn't use enough epoxy to join them...lesson learned. New trainer and 1 month later, I'm back in training, solo'ed a couple of weeks later to the applause of the same peanut gallery. Hang in there and get back on the horse in front of the same crowd, just insist on the buddy box until you are completely comfortable with all phases of flight including the mandatory landing.

RE: saito .91 rebuild help please
I don't think those belong on your engine...any plastic part would melt when the engine heated up.

RE: cracked carb. barrel
I think I would invest in a new carb. I had a similar (undetected) crack caused by the same reason in a TT 90. I was at the field, started the engine and was running at full throttle to adjust the HS needle when suddently....BAM! and off went the prop and spinner fliying straight ahead. A piece of the barrel broke off and and lodged in the crank. At that speed, it literally welded the the broken piece between the crank and the side of the engine. Thankfully this didnt happen in flight or with anyone standing in front of the prop.

RE: Adjusting control throws
The first thing I would check before making any other adjustment is that the end point adjustments on the servo throw are the same in both directions.

RE: Few questions before I buy my first plane. (New pics added!)
I wouldn't disagree that a Cub could be used as a trainer, but for someone who isn't even sure which fuel lines go where and refer to alerons as rudders, probably shouldn't try to fly that Cub on his own. The Cub takes a little patience to learn how to take off without swerving off the runway. My suggestion to buy a trainer ARF and build it was meant to give the guy some advice on how to learn about his plane's systems while they are still intact and not in pieces after a mistake in flight.

RE: need suggestions for a new plane.
The Tiger II is a great second plane, can be set up as docile or as wild as you want and extremely easy to take-off and land...but you will have to find someone who already has one built or has an unbuilt ARF. I have been looking for a Tiger II ARF for the past month and cannot find one. Tower Hobbies no longer stocks the ARF, only the kit.

RE: Few questions before I buy my first plane. (New pics added!)
That last post is the best advice you've gotten so far...building a trainer (whether ARF or Kit) is the best way to fully understand how the plane functions and how to fix it if it doesn't.

RE: Appropriate engine for a restored Piper Cub
If it is, indeed, a 40-size then the OS 46 is sufficient. The Cub is not meant to be a fast (or aerobatic) flyer. Adding the gasser (and removing the extra weight added to the front) will give you more power, you might also consider a .52 or .70 four-stroke...more power and more scale sound. I had a 40-size Cub that with a .52 four-stroke that flew very scale-like and was easy to handle.

RE: funny or amazing crash stories
This past Saturday was our club picnic, our chance to give back to our families for the time we spend flying and working on our planes. It was a nice sunny day after a week of rain and the field was getting crowded. We do a lot of activities centered around the young kids that come out for the picnic including getting them on buddy boxes. I'd brought my Tiger 2 with Buzz Lightyear in the cockpit and set up to be docile for the kids who would be excited to fly him. I was making a final short flight to test the set-up and was making a level pass about 75 feet out and above the runway when suddenly WHAM! The only other plane in the air at the time was an electric foam warbird that I neither saw nor heard until his nose met my right wing. He disintegrated, my wings departed and Buzz and the fuselage continued on for about 150 yards before coming down in the cornfield that surrounds our field. We managed to find the fuselage with Buzz still on board (he was too brave to eject), the engine compartment was toast but my OS 46 was still there. The wings are still lost in the corn and just waiting for harvest time so I can recover them.

RE: Looking for a Tiger 2 canopy
First, the good news...found a canopy on eBay that fit perfectly. Now the bad news, had a mid-air today with a silent electric that I never saw or heard until impact (don't know how he didn't see or hear me). The crash was fatal but..........the canopy did survive!
