RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
I was so pleased to see Blade came out with a BL MCPX! I new that the prices at WOW Hobbies would drop accordingly to a sane level! And they DID! As it is now it's not FUN at ALL to fly my MCP X as it is so under powered. [link=http://www.wowhobbies.com/thesteveblsinglechannelconverter-3-1-4.aspx]HERE[/link] is the kit arriving next week! b

RE: HK-450GT CCPM Alloy T-Rex compatible - Part III
ORIGINAL: mnemennth Technical Blather & stuph... I've posted a few videos recently to my YoubToob channel; I recommend viewing in the highest resolution you can, just so you can see what I'm talking about. I just spent like an hour trying to get this forum to parse the embedded YoubToob liks correctly; they show up fine in the editor, but don't show when viewing the post. I've given up & just put up the links. You'll just have to (GASP!) click the links. I'm sorry, but BLEEP! RCU with a SHOVEL; I HAVE A LIFE! The first is a short tech clip about using an LED flashlight as a strobe to diag issues in my heli's head: 9Y The next one is my I DID IT!!! video; I've FINALLY gotten my Genius CP to work in 6-axis mode! I only had to turn the main board on it's side to make that happen. You can see the mod in the video: And the last one is my video of the new V913 I just got from TMart for review; It's like my little V911 got together with my 9101 and had a BIG baby. I just got one of these in; it's a Nine Eagles 125A with a Tactic RX board: If you have the Anylink it's pretty easy to program; otherwise, the RTF is only $89.99 and comes with a half-decent 10-model Tactic Computer TX. It has a 3-axis gyro; so for the most part, it flies like a mCPX. I had a problem with the RX board losing its binding; they sent me a replacement board right away. I'm probably going to order another one; at that price, it's cheap for parts! Nice thing is parts are available over the counter, and you can replace the servos with the HK 5330 for about $3 each. https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=23484 These are available on Amazon for approx $65 & $95 with free shipping. I prefer to order things like this if I can from my Local hobby Shop; this way I can support them, and get over the counter support. I realize this means paying local sales tax; I still think it's a good idea. ;) And I'm just going to leave these links lying over here; where anybody can take them... Brian - Sorry you crashed your mCPX trying to remember my name... I know I have that effect on people... :p mnem I blame the hair.
Hiya "Nim-In" Figgered out how to pronounce it from yer vids. Speaking of which I watched each and every one like an FBI agent and have this to say: 1) The strobe viddy made me pass out due to my seizures [:)] 2) The fixed pitch viddy in the GYM is NOT a good advert for FP! [;)] 3) The tethered flight viddy found that you STILL have in your possession a CB radio and therefore you cannot be taken seriously![:D] Good stuff and good links! As much as I love me some Hobby King I think that if I buy anything about the size of a 500 I'm going to spring for a brand I can get parts for locally. I think your point is well made in that direction! As for crashing whilst pronouncing.....that was my 4th try at a viddy that I could post in that I'm TRYING to get the "dork hat" down and I've still not got it right. I'm going to need to experiment further! When I fly the MCP X a lot I get sloppy! Thanx for the mega, mega post!! All the best! b

For SHAME, SIR! ;) Also<font size=''2''>, you've exposed one of my greatest nerd crushes ever since I was about 12 and discovered this story while researching the German Army's fascination with suborbital artillery (The Paris Guns). :p mnem *Brazenly geekoid*
Hiya mnemememmememememth! Anyhooooooo yah, "dumbing down" has a special place in my heart and here in the south in particular! If you were to seem intelligent it was frowned upon that you were "putting on airs". Growing up and even in my adult life I'd get "Tell us something else, Mr. Encyclopedia"! It taught me to be very careful to who I spoke with. It reminds me of a great "bit" that social commenter / comedian Chris Rock (who happens to be black) would do about his culture, the black culture. (I'm going to "sanitize" this a bit) Chris Rock would say: "Blacks are PROUD to be stupid, I'd ask a black what the square root of 3 is and he'd say "N", I don't know that S H I T"! Like he was proud! Great observations from an AMAZING comedian. I've seen women do this on CNN. They'd act like they didn't know something about economic but the chick would be a freakin' Rhodes Scholar!!! I work with a fella who has a BS in business and he'd pretend in conversation that he didn't know a basic business tenant. Amazing! That southern "awe shucks, I'm just a ole dumba s s" persona annoys me to NO end!! We have it bad enough that the nation and the rest of the world think we are a bunch of "nose pickers from boogerville" as it is! (Rant over) Back to camping! b

Hiya Kidzz! Great posts! Yah, Ingleburn I'm just plum "sorry" of late but enjoying my "last weekend" off for the next two months! I looooove "camping"! Sorry for yer luck Jonesy! I have to imagine that the FBL version of the HK500 are just fine in that there is simply less parts. My HK500GT was literally just lovely! It wouldn't have been, however when it 1st came out. The tail, the tail. It was baaaaad. Literally exploding! Lookin' forward to the maiden! Now back to doing.....well, nothing! b PS As for Miracle Mart. They were great when they had stuff in stock. I swear they had a kind of "sensor" that KNEW when I wanted something and were immediately OUT of it! Grrrrr!

I'll probably do the same mods on my 9XR once I have the module built.<span style=''color: rgb(255, 0, 0);''>  I would like to know how well that works.  Fuel / battery data would be very usefull for my field trainer, as well as other models.  I tend to swell my heli batteries due to discharge below rated voltage. <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>The FRSky telemetry system relies on a hub device to sort the various sensor data to the correct frames in the serial datastream; the only thing you can read directly from the RX are RX Voltage, Battery Voltage (sensor can be plugged directly into the RX), RSSI/TSSI at the RX. They have a capacitive stick-on fuel guage, and a 40A-Rated Ammeter, as well as GPS, Variometer and Barometer/Altimeter and several others that escape my soldering-fume addled mind at the moment. Allegedly, the Telemetry range is as good as or better than the control range; with 1.5-2 klicks being typical. They just updated their firmware to provide GPS refresh 2x/sec. I think I may spend the $20 for the 64x128 clip-on auxiliary LCD though; there are times when I really want to keep my radio's control status up on the screen. Speaking as an engineer with 30 years experience in the field; I believe the FRSky radio hardware can go toe-to-toe with anything Futaba has to offer; and I also believe, after looking at the waveform analyses, that it beats anything JR has all hollow. Of course, I remember the dark ages at Futaba too; they would have been purple with envy at the component density and the quality of the wave-soldering of even the current regular Turnigy/FlySky readio gear. And there are still people flying that stuff today... <span style=''color: rgb(255, 0, 0);''> That is the very reason I chose FrSky. Until the advent of the Hitec system, it rivals the best of all worlds, price and dependability. I also like the re-link time, within a second, compared to Corona, DSM2.  3 seconds or more usually ends up in sub-terrainian flight. I have had some problems with the SMT components on the receivers, but I have only had those problems after a severe crash. I lost a channel due to a chip leg letting go of the land. <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>I like the Hitec system, but still think it's an expensive clone of the FRSky... the waveform analysis is too similar, mostly it's the terminology they've changed. I suspect they've hired some engineers away from FRSky, just as I suspected Futaba did for their Telemetry program. This is a VERY small circle of operations, really. With the complexity of the functions of a modern RX, of course you know there is no other way to build besides SMT; you'd never fit all those components into a package smaller than a lunchbox. Of course, that would make construction of your next model much simpler; just glue your wings & motor to the sides of the RX ;) . The er9X firmware, in combination with the eePe & Companio9x firmware/memory editing software, make the 9X/9XR a REALLY formidable package in terms of a computer TX; I almost NEVER build a model profile on the radio anymore; I use my old Toughbook and Companio9x to build, then upload the new profile once it passes preliminary simulations in the editor. <span style=''color: rgb(255, 0, 0);''>I never thought of using editing software via a computer to build model profiles.  Neat. My buddy wanted to program his clone 450, and I had fits programming the CCPM mixing.  He is still using the firmware that was shipped with the 9XR. <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>HobbyKing NEVER intended the 9XR to be used with the stoxk firmware; they ALWAYS expected the end-user to load one of the popular open-source firmwares on it. Of COURSE they had to make a few tweaks to get it so it would work standalone, if you have the patience. But they only did that so they could disable the firmware from being read to & written from eePe & Companio9x, which is essentially eePe with a slightly more advance GUI. As a result, they HAVE to tell you not to flash your TX for warranty reasons; like anybody who buys the TX is gonna send it back when shipping is 3/4 the cost of the radio. THAT was a MAJOR part of the aggravation within the er9x community; they took the code, didn't abide by the terms of the GPL, and hacked it to cripple the best parts of the open-source firmware. As I've said elsewhere; the Chinese don't think about doing business the way we do; otherwise, they would have never even imagined offending their primary customer base so flippantly. mnem *Point-to-point soldered* <span style=''color: rgb(255, 0, 0);''>Thanks for the info,  I know who to turn to for help. B <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>Certainly. Always willing to infect... err, welcome a new member into the fold. :p Here are a few links to get y'all started, if you have any interest at all: <span style=''color: rgb(128, 0, 128);''>http://code.google.com/p/er9x/ http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/Er9x_user_guide http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/Flashing_your_9x http://er9x.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/doc/Flashing%20the%209x.pdf <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>Note that er9x is NOT the only oppen-source firmware out there; it is just my personal choice and probably the best documented online. The first link has a list of other, similar firmwares you can also investigate. The last two links are pretty much the nuts & bolts of hacking your TX; you won't need to do any of that with the 9XR UNLESS you want to make the telemetry data come up on the TX LCD. If you can live with a unit clipped to the handle (Or attached to the two screws on the back of the <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>9XR that are MADE for attaching such things to), you can either use the $20 add-on LCD or get the FRSky DHT-U module with it all in one small box: <span style=''color: rgb(128, 0, 128);''> http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__19966__FrSky_DHT_U_Telemetry_System.html <span style=''color: rgb(0, 0, 255);''>As I mentioned before; sometimes it's nice to have 2 screens at once. Labelle... 107... I am convinced it is s space age lubricant introduced by aliens that creates a totally frictionless interaction between moving parts.. hence they never wear..... 1000 + flights on a $49 Hobbyking Heli and it is smoother than the day I built it...  I have worn out and replaced a Brushless motor and 3 cyclic servos (hitech HS65MGs) on this heli but the bearings, gears, tail belt are all orginal.. PS.. the DS480 on the tail is also original.
"What an annoying little kid"! b

The [link=http://www.wowhobbies.com/thesteveblsinglechannelconverter-3-1-1.aspx]conversion[/link] has been greatly reduced on the MCPX! Daddy likey! As for who has the "bigger lens", I'll settle that one right now! ME! b Edit: [link=http://www.wowhobbies.com/mcpxbrushlessconversionkitp.aspx]This[/link] is soooooo wrong!
ORIGINAL: ahamay Got the <a href=''http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=22687'' target=''_blank''>TGY-306G installed into the tail on my new Tarot 450 PRO V2 FBL build this morning.  Servo looks solid.  It's nice and fast and SUPER loud.<img src=''http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/msn/omg_smile.gif'' alt='''' /> Would have been nice if it came with a round wheel servo horn as well but a bit of trimming on the standard horn sorted that. I've got some wiring to tidy up and some final pitch settings to check and it's ready for a maiden hopefully on Sunday.  If anyone is interested in the specs for this build it's got the following config: Tarot 450 PRO V2 FBL barebones kit from oomodel ZYX v1 (not running 3.5 firmware) Hitec HS-5065MG on cyclic TGY-306G on the tail Spektrum AR6115e rx Turnigy H2218 Motor with 13T pinion (This is the red motor with the silver can, 3550kv) Turnigy Plush 40amp ESC CF Blades Standard in the kit Nano-Tech 2200mah 3S 35-70c Really looking forward to flying this one.  If it's a screamer i'll drop a 13t pinion into my other 450 PRO as well. Looks like a "getter"! My mcpx has been out of action for months and I have some parts arriving today to freshen it up.  I think when they get to a point when they need major repairs and lots of parts replaced it's better just to buy a new one. I disagree!! Hope everyone gets some flying in this weekend.
