ORIGINAL: CanDo Rinnander, if you have the ARF, check the nose gear mount to make sure it is braced properly. I installed the Sierra Precision nose gear, then tested the strut a few times by pushing down on the fuse nose. The nose gear mounting beams broke loose from the bulkhead. After I secured the beams better and reinforced the bulkhead, no more problems. Note, my nose gear rotates aft

Gaines, What degree or angle did you use for your nose wheel? I am putting mine in and I don't want to waste a bunch of wood to see what works. I have the ARF not the kit if it makes a difference. Are you putting the the nose wheel steering servo in the nose cone? Thanks for your help. Paul

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Jerry, They look good. I didn't get a chance to work on my bird all weekend either. I think I need to get the struts I want and get them in before the engines and fuel tanks. I am happy that the DLE 20's fit, I hope by the end of this holiday season I can start working more in what I call my hanger (garage). Thanks for the photos and keep up the good work on your bronco. Jerry, Good news about the DLE 20cc engines [:D] What size gas tanks are you going to use? I think tower hobbies here I come to get my DLE's. Can't wait to see the pics. Did you have to use the aluminum bulkheads you bought? Paul

Cando, Thanks for the reminder of the right engine offset, did you use washers or a piece of hardwood? I like your plane I bet she fly's awesome!!!!! Paul

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Badlemon, I like the look of that bronco you have chosen, I am going with gray camo pattern. I have glassed my plane so I can airbrush the design I want with the colors I want. The problem is the engine. I want a gasser for cost and ease but I don't know if it will fit. If I use a 15cc I have a RCV 90 that is equal to a 15cc engine, but it is a 4 stroke with messy oil. But I am stuff a square peg in a round hole who knows. What does your son do in the USMC? Thanks for the reminder of an earlier post about the 15cc gassers. Yes the covering came off pretty easy I had a few heat gun spots not to bad though. Is your plane finished? If so how much weight and what type of power are you running? Thanks for the chat. Paul

RE: twin engine size????
John, 2/4 stroke either one will get the job done. I just wanted a gasser for the ease and cost of fuel. You are right you need to correct the yaw with the rudder if you have enough time you can trim the rudder to bring her home safely. This is my first twin nitro/gas plane, my electric fly's so nice almost like a trainer I thought a nitro/gas would be about the same? Any advice still will be much appreciated. Paul

RE: twin engine size????
Jaka, 20cc way to big? Do you mean weight? torque? HP? or like putting a heli jet engine in a motorcycle dumb too big? I have look at a few gassers and a 15cc and 20cc are about the same size? Maybe the RCV .91sp, which was my first choice with a 3 blade prop will have to be the one I go with. Thanks for the advice. Paul

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
Jerry, Thanks I do want scale but I don't want electric, like you said earlier batteries, speed controls way to much money to fly more than one time a weekend. If I have to cut the cowl, maybe cut the inboard side so it is not too visible. 15cc gassers are about the same size and weight as the 20cc? I do have one RCV .91 4 stroke that I was going to put on this plane, I put the other on my F4U and it runs nice. I might just have to go this route, I just like the idea of the 2 stroke gasser if it will work. I am looking forward to your progress and pics. Paul

RE: OV-10 Bronco 81
ORIGINAL: jbarnes Ok, thanks for the update. I'm putting DLE20's in mine. Electric is ok, but when you get this big the batteries and ESC's get expensive and your flying time is cut down unless you buy even more expensive batteries. The only time I lost a twin (my B25 running eflite 60's) was when I had a battery catch fire. And people always tell me electric is more reliable. Go figure.
JBarnes, I want to put DLE20's in mine as well. Have you put them in and will they fit under the engine cowl? I think my plane is going to be a bit heavy like 22-23 lbs. I was a power plant mechanic on the bronco in the Marine Corps until they retired the OV-10 in 1996, I was with VMO2 at Camp Pendleton, Ca. So I am trying to make it look more scale than sport. In the background I have a picture hanging on the wall of what I hope my plane will look like. I have had this plane for 4 years trying to make it right. Any help or advice is much appreciated. Paul

RE: twin engine size????
Oscar, I am running 15% fuel from my local hobby store with no additives. I may not be a lot of excess, it is my first 4 stroke. It just seems messy, I did bend a tube and vent the oil out of the bottom of my plane. I called and spoke with Pete the guy who makes the engines in England and he explained how to go about it. Maybe I will get one more and put them on this OV-10, I thought gassers would be easier, more cost effective, and less messy. Thank for the advice, Paul

RE: twin engine size????
Thanks Mike and John, I have to agree with Mike I do like the sound of a 4 stroke and I do want a 3 blade prop that was one reason for the RCV, but they are messy. The OS 91 surpass 4 stroke might be the answer. I think this plane might weigh in at 25 lbs or more loaded with fuel can the OS 91 handle that much weight? I have a smaller OV-10 electric model from nitro planes that I fly, I will have to become a member of my local field to fly this plane. Someone out there may have the twin experience to help with a flame out with one engine. I do know that you need to pull back the power turn into the running engine and then bring the power up slowly. Easy to say with a key board, no so much with two sticks and nerves on a maiden flight right. Thank you guys for the advice and any other knowledge you would like to share. Paul

RE: twin engine size????
John, I did not think about the small stuff like fuel duh!! I wanted to use large 3 blade props. I have 2 RCV .91 4 stroke that I bought for this plane, for some reason I do not like the nitro type engines. I put one of the RCV in a F4U CMP model it works well but messy with the excess oil. I thought a gasser would be nicer to work with? How much fuel do they need?? Thanks paul

twin engine size????
Hello, I am building a 81" OV-10 bronco Hobby Hanger ARF. I have glassed the whole plane putting in robart retracts, scale cockpit with pilots, and I hope nice aluminum wheels to be painted white to match the Shinden struts I want. I have put body lines and rivets on the wing still need to do the fuse and tail booms. Anyway the question I have is: will DLE 20's be enough power for my plane I think it might be a tad heavy? Thanks for any help you can give me. Paul

Sorry Matt, One more question. I went to apc web page and I found 3.0 oz/sq yd satin weave witch is .0035 thick, and 2.3 oz/sq yd plain weave witch is .0029 thick and their ez-lam resin. What would you recommend? Thanks again, Paul

RE: Covering Balsa with Carbon Veil
Thanks Matt, Originally the plane would weigh 18lbs and the engines I got were bigger than recommended so I hope an extra couple of lbs wont hurt. This is a slow mover type of plane with a large wing and big flaps for short take offs and landings. Thanks for your help Matt. The only problem know is I was almost done with this model and then I see the nice fiberglass models on the site and want to be able to paint mine with a nice camo paint job. I will try and post some pics as the project gets under way next week. Any other advice you can think of will be a great help. PaulR

RE: Covering Balsa with Carbon Veil
Hi MattK, Thanks, more info on my plane it is the plane from hobby hanger the Rich Ulrich (not sure if that is the correct spelling of his name) 81" OV 10 Bronco twin engine. I have 2 rcv 4 stroke sp .90 engines for it and would like to give a better pain job than the ultra coat it came with. Where can I get .003 fiberglass and what type of resien or dope do you use with it. Sorry for all of the questions this is my first plane that I am building. I do have other planes but they were like just bolt the wing on and fly. I would like this one to have my own touches in it. Thanks for all of your help. PaulR

Hello, Sorry to break in on your thread. But can I cover my 81" ov 10 that is now covered with film with .010 G-10 fiberglass so I can paint it the way I like or will it be to heavy? Thank for any and all advice I get. Paul
