RE: Question about 1/8 Tiger 1 from ModelWorks...
If it’s just the hull I would find out exactly what was included, these tanks were all metal and brass hence the weight, if you are interested in a 1/8 Tiger I would suggest this http://www.rcarmory.com/kit_tiger1.html#pictures it way work out cheaper than the Modelworks Tiger especially if you have to scratch build an entire turret.

RE: Question about 1/8 Tiger 1 from ModelWorks...
Mike, Modelworks used to be a British company they mainly built large scale model trains the Tiger was one of their side lines, Modelworks closed about 5 years ago, detail was not good and if memory serves me well you bought this model in instalments and received the parts in instalments when they closed there was a few incomplete models for sale, the biggest problem was if they didn’t get all the drive system as they would then have to make their own, I don’t think many were made probably less than 20, questions to ask is if it’s complete if not then you are on your own and will have to scratch build parts, price wise 8 years ago they were about £2500 new.

Project 1/6 Scale Schwimmwagen and Kübelwagen
Project Schwimmwagen and Kübelwagen For some time I have had a Schwimmwagen kit with the intention of adding RC, this vehicle has had a number of setbacks for one reason or other but mainly down to finding the right type of axles and suspension to go with the vehicle, firstly I have no intention of making it swim as this requires a vast amount of work and anything more than still water will carry the Schwimmwagen away even the real thing could barely swim, secondly it must have four-wheel drive this will be permanent four wheel-drive and it would be nice to have the wider combat rims. Last year I also acquired another Kübelwagen, having already RD’ed three in the past I decided to do another using suspension as close to the real vehicle as possible as opposed to the Gravel Hound method, a suitable front end was found and modified this front end will be used on both vehicle’s the same modified axles will also be used on both builds. Both vehicle’s will be built side by side and in no particular order, neither will be a quick build as at the moment I just don’t have the spare time to dedicate to the builds, finding the right parts for these builds has taken a vast amount of time in research for the Schwimmwagen years, so don’t expect me to give to many details away free of charge however I will help where I can. Schwimmwagen, for over a year I have been looking for suitable wide combat wheels none are currently available, both Kübelwagen and Schwimmwagen kits come with the standard Kübelwagen wheels and tyres which usually are extremely warped and wobble as the vehicle drives this may be OK for static but not really for RC, whilst studying pictures I came across a third type of wheel used on the Schwimmwagen using two different types of tyres after finding several combat pictures showing these wheels and tyres to confirm their use I stated to look for suitable tyres I did manage to find a set though the tread pattern is not quite right but other dimensions are very close, the wheels used are the smaller Africa wheels usually fitted with balloon tyres but in the case of the Schwimmwagen they used two different tread patterns one similar to the larger wide combat rim , I have also made a prototype wheel this still requires more work and I haven’t decided if I will use these or not. Standard type wide combat wheel Small type wheel My prototype small wheel and rubber tyre

RE: Project 1/6 Scale Schwimmwagen and Kübelwagen
Sorry chaps I think I have mislead people this is a 1/6 Schwimmwagen, I did have the Edward 1/16 Scwimmwagen but sold that 18 months ago it was almost complete all the running gear had been done using Tamiya motor and gearbox along with the front steering system though modified with a small servo, it will be nice when it’s completed. George, the tyres I have had for several months, the wheel I only have 1 upto now is for evaluation purposes and I have to complete the suspension before I can see if they will work properly, for me it’s all about the detail as oppose to just making the Schwimmwagen move and I really would preface the larger combat wheels and tyres but the first set would cost over 400€ to commission then 250€ per set after the problem for you is they would be made in Germany and would be costly on postage, keep an eye on the build and see what unfolds.

Since when did Tamiya USA start making anything, it always has and always will be made in Japan, you just have to laugh. Tom, the first thing I did when I got into the hobby was find out who the Tamiya importer was in England, try the “Hobby Company they sell parts direct. Detail wise if that’s what you are asking the Heng Long out of the box is not as well detailed as a Tamiya, things like the gearbox sprocket are positioned incorrect as are the return wheels

RE: The origins of Heng Long tank designs
ORIGINAL: no12skyline Heng Long, Tamiya, and WeCoHe all put out their own Panther G late model, no one ever accused WeCoHe or Tamiya of ''borrowing'' other people's designs......
I can see there is no fooling you, you really are as sharp as they come. Fact, Wecohe announced to the world that it was designing a late model Panther G, they even said that they would make earlier versions at a later date they also stated that development would take over 12 months, this in the tank world caused a vast amount of excitement though the predicted price was going to be over 1000€ plus the use of parts from a Tamiya kit making this a very expensive offering but still the only one available in the meantime Tamiya saw that this was going to be a much wanted model and developed their own late model Panther G unbeknown to Wechoe, fast forward 10 months Tamiya releases their Panther first and people instantly know that this has been done to spite Wechoe they also know of the detail faults that the tank has and that it was rushed into the market a few months later Wechoe release their Panther which has far sharper details all the hatches open along with other wonders not to mention that the Wechoe version is far more accurate scale wise, these 2 Panthers represent individual designs, then we have Heng Long who 18 months after the Tamiya release decide to release their own Panther, lord and behold the upper hull and turret are yet again copies of the Tamiya model, why well Tamiya not being stupid had noticed the theft of the Tiger model plus box graphics they had deliberately built in scale defects with parts not quite in the right place and funnily enough the Heng long has exactly the same faults, the same happened with the Jagdpanther not long after and the same now with the Porsche Tiger II and no doubt the Henschell Tiger II will be exactly like the Tamiya version. I have no doubt that there are more than a few people here who when they have a holiday but a Rolex from the chap on the beach for 100€ then 3 weeks later when all the gold has rubbed off and it’s stated to rust are still convinced they have a genuine Rolex making statements lie “But it says Rollex on the face(spelling is intentional )

RE: The origins of Heng Long tank designs
As has been said, credit where credit is due to Heng Long for the tanks they designed and built themselves but not at all for the ones they blatantly ripped off Tammiya. Let’s just say that an American company called “Raging Eagle designed and built a 1/16 RC M1A2 Abram’s and an M60 complete with all the electronics and battle system and had to sell them at 1000€ as a kit plus radios and batteries, there would be many on this forum who would sell their kids to buy this product, then shock horror a firm called Heng Long released the same models with the same box art, the same crew figures with the only differences being they placed a useless BB gun in the turret then sold the tank for 150€ just how many of the fan boy Heng Long owners would rush out and buy it, what we would hear is that Heng long had ripped off an American company and that it’s sacrilege to buy inferior models, the argument is exactly the same.

“Heng long, more established and credible RC tank manufacturer these words are not representative it should be “established toy RC tank manufacturer credible can’t be used not when they have blatantly stolen the work of others namely Tamiya Now I see what the thread is about, yet more Tamiya bashing, come back when you see Tamiya, Hooben, Trumpeter along with various other manufactures cloning anything from Heng Long

No Tamiya released the Panther and Jagdpanther first, as for the JS1 they were released within a few weeks of each other so must have been developed at the same time. The Heng Long PzIV can’t be a copy of the Bandai PzIV as the Bandai version is 1/15 scale and is slightly larger as a result

RE: Whats the word on any tank releases from tamiya?
This question come up all the time with the same stale quotes, I want an Abram’s= not going to happen sales would be low world wide, if they were going to build one they would have done so already Why not make VVS suspension = this won’t happen people would want superior parts at inferior prices with comments like “why can’t they sell them for less than Mato I want a T72 again sales would be low Why can’t they make some obscure Sherman variant as an upgrade kit = why on earth would they do that cost’s for making new frets are very high but the sales would be low I would love to see anything British or modern= now this is a sensible request but I can’t see Tamiya building anything British again for sales reasons though a Cromwell would sell very well. As for modern didn’t Heng Long build a modern Chinese tank of some description? What were the sales like? This will give some indication of what a modern tank would sell like. Tamiya have never had any specific release pattern for their 1/16 range so don’t expect to see a new one every other year they will be made when and if Tamiya have a suitable project.

RE: Which Panzers had pivot turning capability?
Caving in trenches requires a slight turn of the tank as opposed to a natural turn on top of the trench also driving back and forth will also cave the trench in, remember trenches usually do not have strengthened wall the weight of the tank passing over will cause the wall to start collapsing the deeper the trench the more likely it will collapse

RE: 'White Tiger'
The Tiger you initially shown was only completed some way through filming hence why you see the JS Tiger apparently if you look close at some of the footage the more accurate one can be seen, I think re-filming with this version was out of the budget. If the rumours are right this same company is working on another replica tank possibly for a future film.

RE: Which Panzers had pivot turning capability?
The question has been answered already but the Tiger I and Tiger II were capable of neutral turns as seen in the film, also notice that the Tiger I is turning in soft soil hence it digging itself into the ground but as you can see this was achieved but as has been said undertaking such a manoeuvre is fraught with danger from throwing tracks unless it’s on a hard surface, as for the speed in which a Tiger can perform a neutral turn is not really known again in the film the tank turns slow but it’s on a soft surface so it would have to turn slow to avoid throwing tracks, I have seen the Tiger at Bovington undertake this manoeuvre but no one is going to risk testing the tank to see just how quickly this manoeuvre can be done this is the same with turret turn speed, Tiger and Panther had a multi speed traverse, the harder you revved the engine the faster the turret turned, Bovington have only ever done this test at tick over but this doesn’t mean that the turret can’t turn faster

RE: Tiger Camo Question, For Tiger Experts
Yes the picture is pre-Kursk the Tiger 823 you talk of is also pre-Kursk in grey with yellow camo this was 3 months before Kursk the change in numbers and marking was done to most units to confuse the Russians as to who was there, pictures of Kursk start on page 112 the picture of Tiki in grey and yellow is also pre-Kursk all tanks were repainted yellow and re-numbered pictures on page 114 are well after Kursk though the tanks still have the markings, better books to look at would be “Das Reich Tigers, Tiger de la schwere kompanie/SS-Pz.Rgt.2 à la s.SS-Panzerabteilung 102/502 this book is in French or Tigers in Combat Vol2

RE: Tiger Camo Question, For Tiger Experts
Glen the pattern you are looking at was used by 2nd SS DR in 1943 Russia the problem is numbers and markings changed for the Kursk offensive the turret numbers with S for Schwere or heavy were used with 2 digits EG. S23 the “imp marking was used for Kursk this was applied to the turret of all tanks in the unit it’s believed to have come from a packing case, the divisional marking was changed to two vertical white bars with a white bar underneath attached camouflage was either a two tome green and yellow or three tone pattern yellow green and brown there are many pictures on the net also have a look at the TiiF forum

The Panther is painted in red oxide with a bit of yellow (Dunkel gelb) this is to represent a late 1945 Panther straight from the factory so technically it is right, T Jentz recommended this schema also this Panther along with the Jagdpanther never saw combat this was built after the was supervised by the British Army and used for testing purposes, you are right it could do with a better paint job
