RE: power supply output .30v over. how to reduce?? PLEASE HELP.
a simple diode will drop the voltage between .6 and .7 volts in series to charger.

RE: Orange futaba compatible receiver
I have heard that some problems may be expirienced if the reciver is set in a high speed mode if the servo can not handle that mode. I have been using the hobbyking frsky tfr6 which has only normal mode. it bound once and has been good ever since. you set the controls on the transmitter to where you want them for failsafe and hit the fs bind button once quickly and failsafe is set. I have beend flying to 47 inch wing span 3d profile planes and have had positive control

RE: Centering dual aileron servos?
if you want to use a y harness to both aielerons or to get the aaileron servos to match exactly you will need programmable servos and a programmer. with programmables you can set 0 perfectly and then set exact throw distance. it all depends on what you want to spend

RE: new to RCU and flying have some ?'s
I did not see the edf part. in your intial message. flying an edf is harder then a regular plane because you have to manage energy effectively. you have no propwash over control surfaces to enable control and stability, you have to relly on movement through the air to provide the airflow for control. you can not make abrupt changes which destroy speed and disrupt airflow through the fans. Reaction to spooling up and speed coming on is lagged. get comfortable first with standard aircraft then the transition to edf will be easier

RE: Best trainer plane for a Complete Beginner
I have taken up a student with an apprentice. A fairly decent aircraft, flys nice a little bit small so it gets buffeted by winds some but not too badly. Make sure you have plenty of charged batteries so that you can accumulate quality flight time with your instructor to reinforce good habits after you do things right instead of putting them off til next week whe you have more charged batteries.

RE: new to RCU and flying have some ?'s
you have to get a turbine waiver first. If I remeber correctly you have to find someone who can sign you off and you can use a high speed prop plane for the testing

RE: Building music.
my favorite band to listen too while building is TANGERINE DREAM. they almost always have no vocals and it is easy to concentrate when you have too on complex instructions or involved procedures but their music is almost always upbeat. they are famous for doing a lot of soundtracks too movies, you have probably heard them but never realized who they were.

RE: engine dying
after you dead sticked the plane let the engine cool down for about 10 minutes. Do not refill the tank with fuel and restart the engine. Does the engine stall soon after or not start at all? If so look for a tank or plumbing problem causing the trouble.

RE: Love my Kadet LT40
you might want to consider closeing down the mixture valve sometimes called the low end needle, it sounds like the engine is loadiong up a little while it is idlingand you have to ease it up to burn off the excess fuel.

RE: Katana 140 build help
I agree with the towerpro servos being junk. soldering on the board is bad and I had one come doa because of bad soldering. drive train and gears are good though but the control circuitry is substandard. the servo will overrun the position you command and then come back to it. control circuitry will blow out if not the first flight then at least by the 100. A friends plane had them on it and the canopy blew off. the plane became uncontrolable. a postmortem of the remains showed every servo was dead, maybe a coincidence but too spooky for us ever to use them again. not worth a plane to use these pieces of crap. they are now spares for slope soaring junk

RE: Futuba 10c needs a new battery
Make your own battery pack cheap. the eneloop batteries are cheap on the internet. You can plug them into a radio shack battery holder like normal batteries. cut the connector off your old battery pack thaat is in your radio and solder it onto the radio shack battery holder. the batteries can be charged by the same wall charger you are currently using except they have to charge for a longer time. As the batteries age and need replacements you just pop out the old batteries and pop in new batteries to the holder.

RE: Brand New
Why Are you building a plane exactly? do you have to demonstrate aerodynamic principles and structures or something like that. Electric and glow fuel pricing equals out by the time you get support equipment for either together. check with a nearby club for used radio gear in the 72 mghz range, this is older gear that people are upgrading away from but it is still good reliable gear. and see if you can buy an old eliable os 46 engine from somebody. depending on deals you could get from club members if you hit it right you might be able to build the lt 40 kit and equip it for $300to $400. good deals can be found. If you fly any airplane at ama sanctioned fields though you will have to have an ama membership. they supply suplemental insurance should you hit the wrong thing or person.

RE: Brand New
I would suggest the lt40. but to equip the airplane you would need another 130 for a radio and about the same for a radio. the kits about 90 but you need to covering and tools to finishso you go through another $50. there are other kits check this page http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=AAB stick with os engines for less problems la are weak but good ax are better power. check clubs nearby for cheap gear for sale to outfit your plane people are always selling used engines and used radio gear. get club sites by going on academy of model aoernautics.

RE: Removing Aileron
if you don't want to cut the hinge the dirty way of doing it is to leave a little covering on at the hinge line recover the wings and the ailerons and that should cover most of the old covering. then take a strip of covering and place it in the hinge line to seal the gap and that should cover the old covering at least from the top. make sure the old covering is very clean before you try to over cover it.

RE: Tried repairing starter..
check the wires near the plug ends. is the wire still bright and shiny or has it oxidezed. if the metal of the wire oxidized then it does not conduct electricity well. cut a few inches off until the wire looks good again.

RE: soldering
I use solder connections on linkages for 3d planes all the time and they have never failed me. proper preparation and proper procedure make good connections. zbends make bad connections for 3d linkages because they can auger out the control horn too much during use and cause flutter. z bends are ok for trainers and planes with standard size control surfaces.

RE: Trying to rebuild OMP 47
I just caught your post. I have rebuilt my old yak 47 about 2 years ago. greatest flying plane I still have. I scan my ribs before I build them so I have the templates for them the scale might be a little off but that can be adjusted by sizing them up to the plans. do you have the old kit with the foam core fuselage that is sheeted? if that is ok then give me your email, the yak and edge have the same rib templates, they just have different canted spars and trailing edges

RE: New plane
I usually recommend a newbie not use a 4 stroke engine. the reason why is that 4 stroke are more expensive and newbies have a tendency to ding up equipment. the 2 stroke is cheaper and survives better then a 4 stroke in a face plant. the 4 stroke can get its pushrods bent easily if they are hit but the 2 stroke needs to hit something like pavement or a big rock to really damage them a lot.

RE: I can't get this new engine to start for anything
one quick question. Are you sure you have the proper lines hooked up? can you drain and fill the tank from the line that goes to to carburator. The reason I ask is that it sounds like you are running off a prime and not pulling out of the tank.

RE: Futaba 600 mah nicad battery packs
who knows how long a battery will live. the only thing you can do is to monitor how fast the battery drops off after each flight. when you start to get lesser amounts of flights it is time to change batteries. sometimes they go bad fast and other times they seem to last forever.

RE: Pushrod Geometry
I agree with setting the push rod 90 degreesto the servo arm and control arm but for maximum throws the arm has to also be parallel to the hinge line which the first picture is not even close too

cutaway look where how he drew the line that is parrallel to the hingeline. the hinge line is not like the top of the control surface.

RE: Pushrod Geometry
if the servo is in the fuse mount the control arm verticle up or down depending on positioning. run the push rod straight back 90 degrees to the control horn which should be straight back behind the servo arm. they should be inline anything that is out of alingment creates torsion force which tries to break things. my rudder is a little off as you can see. optimally the control horn should be slid up more on the rudder so all things would be equal

RE: Pushrod Geometry
wait one second here I think the first picture is wrong. the arm should at center be parallel to the hinge line. That way when the arm moves it has equal up and down movement. the push rod should be 90 degrees or perpendicular to the hinge line. the second picture is right but it looks off because the pushrod is not perpendicular too the control arm

RE: Pull pull vs. push pull
well I used the system the first time. the servos were ganged together with solid links to the push rod arms. I programmed them then I set the programmer to step them and I had very low to almost no current draw between the steps. Me and my friend mark were impressed by how the two servos moved so well together and how easy it was.

RE: Pull pull vs. push pull
you have never dealt with hitech programmable servos. you program the servo itself. you can set the centerpoint anywhere in 360 rotation so the centerpoints of all servos would be spot on. you then can set how many degrees you want to rotate, I believe up to 180 degrees lock to lock but the resolution suffers past 120. the programmer does not remain in aircraft, unlike a servo mixer
