Futaba 6J
Having just ordered the Futaba 6J 2.4 FHSS radio I found little information in the webpages for this product other than the manufacturer and US distributors advertisements. The radio offers a bold new look that some will grow to like and others will never accept. Clearly this radio is being marketed as a budget alternative to the Futaba FASST Radio System. There are several improvements over the 6EX that some will find useful. These include among other things the set up for 15 models and a throttle curve. I personally I was looking for a radio with less expensive receivers than the FASST System Receivers that Futaba markets. Currently the R2006GS receiver that comes with the 6J sells at Tower for $44.99. The 6J does not come with a battery or battery charger like some might expect. The stock setup is four AA batteries not included. The manual suggests a five cell pack and charger is available for this radio through your hobby supply outlet. The 5 cell pack that would fit in this radio case with some modification would be the FUTM1473 Futaba pack that is currently used in the 4PK Radio. This pack sells for $47.99 at Tower. A less expensive alternative might be the five sell 6.0 volt Elite 2000 4/5A flat pack offered at Cheapbatterypacks.com for $16.25. In either case a new battery compartment door would be needed or one could cut off the battery separators from the existing door according to Futaba Japan. You can contact the Futaba service center for a "NiMh battery cover" for this radio HSP82469 6JG BATT LID NIMH according to Krysta at Hobby Services. You will also need to pull out the contacts at the bottom of the transmitter case for the alkaline batteries to make room for the smaller 5 cell pack. The new pack can then be plugged in as normal into the back side of the radio case. The charge port provided on the 6J Radio is a micro plug jack making it difficult if not impossible to use the battery charger supplied with the normal 8 cell pack radio by mistake. The charger available from Futaba that would work with this radio requires the 4BC-3B 120V charger FUTM1832 available from Tower for $31.99. A less expensive alternative to this would be to order the micro plug charge plug used for this radio HSP29615 FUTABA MINI CHARGE PLUG W/LEAD $5.79 which can also be purchased from Hobby Services directly. But most modelers will use their own charger with the battery outside of the radio if using LiFe or NiMh batteries according to Krysta at Hobby Services. Tower does list the Hobbico LiFe HCAM6520 battery for $34.99 for the 6J. This is a 1900mah battery. I also discovered the charger for my Chicago Electric cordless screwdriver plugs into the charge port of the 6J and charges my NiMh battery. The cordless screwdriver was purchased at Harbor Freight tools and is probably found on many of your work benches already. I did read of someone using a 1600mah 2S LIPO with three 1N5404 diodes in series to comply with the battery voltage requirements. Precautions must be taken when using the 6J with other radios on a buddy box system as the higher voltage of most Futaba Radios can cause damage to the 6J. You will have to read the manual for more on that. I hope that some of this information will be usefull.

RE: Futaba T6J Transmitter
Krysta, Thanks for the reply. The information you have suppied is useful. I did check some of the pages you have mentioned after the fact but did not find much of the information about the battery and battery choices. I am guilty of assuming a battery and charger would be supplied. I really don't like the idea of using replacable batteries or unpluging a battery pack from the transmitter for charging as the pins are somewhat delicate. I will order the micro plug for a charge lead. Thanks, Ray

Futaba T6J Transmitter
I just received the Futaba 6J radio system. I didn't do my homework in studying the the product as I was a little let down when discovering no transmitter battery or charger is supplied with this radio like the other Futaba radios. When consulting the manual on pg 16 Futaba says to use four AA alkaline batteries or 5 cell nicd/nimh pack . (The batteries used are a matter of personal choice.) My question is I don't see how a coventional 5 cell pack will fit in the confines of this radio case? So I take it a four cell pack would be used since I am not interested in using alkaline batteries. Also what charger or plug is available to hook to the charge port to recharge a rechargable battery? Is this a work in progress or is Futaba now copying the products coming out of China? Thanks

RE: Hobby King - Dispicable Service
I made my first order with United Hobbies years ago. Being sceptical I kept the order small and it arrived 3 days later Hong Kong Post. I couldn't believe I could order something from so far away and get it in three days. It takes 5 days shipping to me here on the east coast from CA. Since then I have made a total of twenty orders to Hobby City then Hobby King. Battery orders take lots longer to get as they come by pack mule I think. I guess I have been lucky as I only have had two problems. The first was an esc that didn't work. Not worth sending back a $12 item to me. The other issue was I placed an order and paid with a credit card by pay pal. Hobby King refused to recognize the order was paid for even after many attempts emailing their customer service with pay pal tracking information. My credit card company was reluctant to get invoved and wanted me to settle this with pay pal since HK Customer Service was a brick wall. Pay Pal credited my account by default after HK didn't respond to their emails. Since then I still have placed orders with HK knowing I was taking my chances. Today I am waiting for an airplane I ordered from the USA warehouse. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday. HK shipped it proptly as the tracking number from the plane smashers (UPS) show. UPS last showed it in Jacksonville, FL. Hopefully it will come today in one piece. But thats a story or another day.

RE: NEW SYSSA 30CC GASSER MADE IN THE USA
Well, It looks like I'll need to send this back to Todd. Isn't that a B*&^%! I slaved in a spare rexcel ignition and was able to reproduce exactly the same conditions experienced yesterday at the field. I here the plug click, see the gas flowing and backfire the propnut off. As exciting as this is, I prefer flying. Some of my dirt bike experience makes me think of the reed valves. But 18 Yrs of Jet engine Maintenance tells me look for the simple causes first. I'd hate to ship this back after only one fly day but...what do you think, Todd? Do you recommend I remove the carb, visual inspect the reeds? Any other thoughts for troubleshooting? Rob I had a similar problem on a 26cc gasser. I too was swapping out everything thinking the worst. Then I put in a new NGK plug and walla engine running good again. Hope you didn't overlook the obvious like I did.[8D]

RE: Futaba 7C throttle trim
Thanks Bax, Problem solved. After taking your advise and reading the manual about Thr-REV I understood the problem and suddenly remembered changing the throttle using this method rather than the ususal. All is working perfect now even throttle-cut. Thanks again, Ray

Futaba 7C throttle trim
I have been using a Futaba 7CAP aero radio for years. I recently purchased a 7C Heli version that I am using with the aero software in the aero mode. Everything works normal except for the digital throttle trim. When you adjust the trim you hear the familiar audio that it is adjusting, but the throttle servo does move. All other trims work normal. I tried resetting to factory condition with no improvment. This problem exits with the other model I have set up in aero mode as well. Any ideas?? Ray
