RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey all, Well, I finally got my Tornado out and running. I'm pretty pleased with the engine. In the past I've had trouble keeping my trx .15 engine running, but this one ran really well without cutting out dying. Except when it was on it's back. Which happened quite a lot at the track I was running it on today. The car acted pretty much like it does in some of the videos I've seen of it. Bouncing around like crazy on a rough surface makes tougher to control than it should be. Going to fast and hit a rough spot - flip on it's back. Take off from a jump, rear compresses, kicks the rear up- on it's back. Any advice on how to adjust the stock setup to handle the bumps better? What sort of oil is in the shocks from the factory? It seems pretty light to me, and doesn't seem to offer much damping. Anybody had any success in getting these things to handle better? Thanks, Rob

RE: How tight should the screw holding the clutch bell be?
Ok, great! I think I've got it. I had to remove all the shims and just keep the washer and lock washer, but it fully tightens, and the bell spins freely. Thanks again. There also seemed to be an air leak around the seal of the gas tank lid. I fiddled with the screw last night and this morning it seems to have a better seal. And lastly, I need to find my glow plug starter charger. I haven't worked on this car since and the fall, and it must be lost in the basement somewhere. Ugh. And I think I've got 2 of the things! Rob

RE: How tight should the screw holding the clutch bell be?
Hey thanks for the help. I am in fact replacing the original clutch bell with the newer steel one. I don't have a pic yet, but the set up looks like this: screw, lock washer, washer, 2 shims, bearing, bell, bearing, 2 shims. Something must not be right because if I tighten the screw, it really does bind up. Cheers, Rob

How tight should the screw holding the clutch bell be?
Hey all, I'm just wondering how tight the screw that holds the clutch bell on should be. If I tighten it all, it seems to bind up the clutch bell and keep it from spinning freely. If i don't tighten it looks like it will just fall out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Rob

RE: Is this the bearing I need?
Hi, I'm afraid I've lost the part tag. I ordered some time last fall, and it must have got misplaceds somewhere. All the gear itself says is "47". Rob

Is this the bearing I need?
Hey all, I have a stripped 47t spur in 2 speed Tornado. I ordered a replacement spur, and the one I got has a different sized hole for the one way bearing. My original bearing is too small to fit in the new spur. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310196641656&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Is this the bearing I need? I noticed that the bearing in the pic looks like mine with an adapter or nut around it. Is it possible to just get the adapter nut? I'm not sure why they changed it, but it's keeping me from running at the moment. Thanks for your help, Rob

Hey that's great - Thanks for your help As far as shipping goes, I know that if you just send it surface, non insured etc... the rates aren't too bad. The cheapest rate would be fine, as I'm not in a hurry to get it - I'm leaving on vacation on Fri. My Postal code is K1R 5N3. Thanks again, Rob

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hi chevyderek72, I think I'll take you up on the offer for the spur gear. I ordered one along with the clutch bell, but when I went to install it, I found out it's a different part. In the picture my original is the stripped one with the bearing still in place. The part they sent me looks like it takes a much bigger bearing, as the hex hole is much larger. I contacted the place I ordered it from, but it looks like they don't want to help by just shipping me the bearing. They charge my about 15 bucks shipping for each order. Thanks again, Rob

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey thanks for the spur gear offer. It's the one I need. I'm just afraid that if I only replaced the spur, I'd end up with it being stripped pretty soon. I'm thinking of ordering the steel bell, as it seems that that should end the stripping problems. Rob

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Thanks for tuning tips. hopefully I didn't hurt it running wide open on the bench to check for stalling. I guess at this point I need to figure out what replacement parts i need. I checked with my parts place and they have the spurs and steel bell. I read early on in this thread that a different clutch spring is recommended. When i idled mine you could here matallic dinning noise. Is a different spring still recommended with the steel bell, or is the stock one ok. I'll take my clutch bell out and see what it looks like inside.

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hi, thanks for the welcome. As for the stalling, I just wanted to make it clear that it only stalls on wide open throttle. I was driving it around at high throttle no problem. Is it safe to run the engine at high rpm with the motor just mounted in the car, not powering the wheels? I just wanted to test the motor. It's a 2 speed tornado, I'm pretty sure it's the aluminum bell, it seems softish. The gear that is stripped is the one that would match up with the smaller pinion on the bell. Thanks, Rob

RE: Redcat Racing Tornado Thread
Hey all, I picked up a used Tornado BB from a friend. It had a broken lower arm so I couldn't do anything with it until now. I took it out for a spin today, and found that the engine ran nicely without stalling. However, every time I went full throttle, it would speed up, and then die. I took it home and was fiddling with it, and found that with the wheels spinning freely, if I went to to full throttle it would speed up, and die. It couldn't maintain wide open throttle without stalling. To make matters worse, I started hearing some unhealthy grinding, and then checked it find - yep you guessed it - the trans gear stripped. When I would run the engine before I heard a distinctive metallic rattling - obviously the clutch bell. I read on the first page of this forum that the replacing the clutch will take care of the stripping gear problem. I was wondering, what is it about the stock setup that strips the gears? Bad start for my re-entry into nitro Cheers, Rob

RE: GV Rhino 4WD RTR 1/10 - User kinda-review (now with pics!!)
Hey, thanks for the review. My friend is looking at getting an offroad buggy, and I saw one of these in a shop here. So the stock battery is really that bad? Did it last a bit longer after a few runs, or did you just forget it? Does the setup come with any sort of charger? Oh, and is the car fitted with bearings? Thanks again for the write up. Rob

RE: micro gas 2 strokes
Guys, I've managed to keep the car running through a couple of tanks of fuel, running around a small parking lot. It's been cooler here, so I think it might be easier to tune. I've also rerouted the fuel line, so there's a sort of "elbow" in it, instead of just laying down. It doesn't seem to stall out in the corners, although it seems to be affected by left turns more than rights. In a hard left you can hear it hesitate, and you have to get back on the gas I'll try and get it to a track and see how it goes. Badz, any luck with the pipe? Any running video? It sure doesn't accelerate like a nitro. It gets going to a decent speed, but it takes a bit to get there. I've softened up the rear end by taking off the sway bar to avoid the crazy oversteer I was getting. I find the tires don't have much grip. Anyway, we'll see how it goes at the track. If I can get it through a whole tank (20+ min?) running around the track with out stalling I'll be a happy man. Rob

RE: micro gas 2 strokes
Guys, Thanks for the tips. Timmahh, is inertia sucking fuel from the carb a common problem? How do you suggest rerouting the fuel line? Looking at the design of the fuel tank, it seems pretty poor as it doesn't have any tube from the pipe in order keep the pressure up in the fuel tank. I don't know if this is required for a gas engine, but of course, it's on all nitros. Badz, Perhaps your manual is different from mine - I don't think mine makes any mention of carb settings. It doesn't talk about tuning at all either. I've contacted 2 places that sell them, and come up with different baseline settings, varying from 3 or 4 turns to 5 or 6. And I've got no idea of how many turns on the low speed needle. Thanks again, Rob

RE: micro gas 2 strokes
Hi Badz, I've been trying out my compagnucci again, hoping that this time I'd be able to keep it running. Like you said it starts easily and idles well. My problem is that when I'm running it around the track it will stall in a tight corner, or when it spins out, when I'm off the gas. Have you had any trouble with this? Do you have any recommendations as to baseline needle settings for the high and low speed needles? At first I thought the car wasn't running well because of the ignitions batteries were running low, so I replaced them with 2500mah. Have you had any problems with overheating? I'm trying to figure out why the car will start out ok, but after about 10 min. or so, things start cutting out, or the engine just doesn't run as strong, then stalls. I'm satisfied with the speed, and handling (although I find the traction to be weak), but I'm not able to get it running with the reliability I'd hoped for. Any advice would be really appreciated. Rob

RE: Traxxas superten?
Any info on which smart tech chasis? Here in Taiwan (where Traxxas stuff is made) it was marketed as a Traxxas product. There was a 2 speed transmission for it, but it's out of production. Any idea which "real name" parts would fit this car? Is the smart tech chasis you mentioned a clone of a superten? Thanks again, Rob

Traxxas superten?
Hey all, I got this car given to me years ago. I was told at different shops here (Taiwan) that it is a Traxxas car, and indeed, when I bought spare parts for it they were in Traxxas packaging. The car looks to be a kind of copy or clone of a Kyosho superten. The car is larger than a regular 1/10 scale, and looking at different pics on the net of different supertens, I've seen a chasis that looks pretty much like this one. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of or seen this car before. The picture doesn't show the chasis very well, but I'll dig the car out sometime and take better pictures. Thanks, Rob

RE: Compagnucci .39
Hi Badz, I was wondering if you ever had trouble with the engine stalling after spinning out, or spinning then rolling backwards a bit? It happens to mine, and I'm not sure why - the fuel moving in the tank, and not feeding the engine? Thanks, Rob

magnet for timing in a gas engine?
Hey all, I don't know much about gas engines, and I was wondering if there are similarities between them. I have a compagnucci small displacment gas engine (MAC) that has a small magnet on a timing pulley that seems to trigger the spark plug to fire. Somehow this magnet has fallen off and gone missing. I was wondering if other gas engines used a similar setup, and if there was an easy way to obtain the required magnet. Thanks, Rob

Hi, Thanks for makeshift tip, and checking your manual. The guy I got the car from off of ebay was nice enough to order the x and v parts for me and is sending them to me.
