Phoenix ICE2 80 HV
I have recently purchased a Phoenix ICE 80 HV vers 2 from F3A Unlimited for use with an E-flight Power 90 on an 8s setup. I set up 80 HV as per instructions with no programming (Futaba Tx) Everything worked fine. I then connected the C-link and set throttle end points and a 24v cut off. (When disconnecting the motor the white lead came off the connector. I resoldered the connector). When I try to power up and arm the esc. I got a 4 beep error. Followed by a continuous beep. I reconnected the C-link and set to default factory settings. Still getting the 4 beep error followed by a continuous beep. So the only variable I can see here is the motor connector I resoldered. Perhaps I didn't do a very good job on the soldering and the cable did not seat completely into the connector? Could this be the problem resulting in a 4 beep error? BTW What does the continuous beep mean? Nothing in the manual. I have contacted CC but any thoughts or tips would be most appreciated.

Thanks Arch. Glad that will be available. Just a detail, maybe, but it really does make a difference on a Pattern plane, especially when the rest of the plane looks so good.

The above pics show a wire landing gear. The early version had a c/f gear. Has that in fact changed?

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Tony. Sounds like a good deal from AW. The only thing I send out is the cowl cutting. My efforts always end up a mess. (Dremel tool challenged??). I managed the cowl for the twin, but a verticle single cylinder is still a challenge. Other than that these things are really easy to assemble. Or you could always corral a flying buddy to help you. The DLE rear carb version is definitely the way to go. Good luck.

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
Tony As you said, being the first flights on a new engine, he didn't push to hard. Landings looked as smooth as silk. I think you will find that most of the leading 30cc options, including AW, 3D pretty well. Mind you I am hardly a 3D expert. The closest I get to 3D is a one second hover before a stall turn :-) Anyway, please keep posting on whatever you decide. It's always interesting to see the reactions of people coming back after a layoff. The advances in the hobby over the last ten or fifteen years, especially in gas powered IMAC aerobatic planes, has been pretty amazing and most of the airframe issues have been pretty well covered by the designers.

RE: New 30cc Extra 300
I saw an AW 30cc Edge maiden with a DLE 30cc at the club a couple of weeks back. Flew very well. So, I will be ordering the Extra 300 to go along with my, nearly 3 year old - 250+ flights, AW Extra 260 75cc (DA 100L), which with routine maintenance and care is still like new and solid as a rock. IMHO other ARFs definitely show their age more after similar use. I am looking for mine to hold up for quite few a more seasons. AW planes might build come out a tad heavier than some (easily fixable with carbon tubes and spinner) and yes the color designs were getting a bit conservative (now improved on their latest releases), but you really can't knock the overall quality and they fly near the top of their class for IMAC precision use. Which is what I am looking for in a plane. Anyway back to the thread. Has anybody assembled and flown one yet? What are the best props for the DLE 30 - precision IMAC use. I am thinking 17x12/18x10 APC or Menz . Any thoughts?

RE: why using high pitch prop on pattern ?
Many (but not all) IMAC planes nowadays are wing loaded about the same as the better pattern planes and actually perform at least as well on the available power. IMAC designs often need more work to fly in a pattern-like manner but that's doable too.
My perception is that a 12 pitch prop helps there. I heard that Quique Somanzini used to fly a 26x12 on the early DA100s. Could be just coincidence.
Patternlike performance is mainly had by longer tail moments, as much as 1/3 longer for pattern models, which make a model really groove. A tail moment that is only 2 X MAC or less sported by almost all IMAC planes will not groove as well as one that is 3 X MAC sported by most pattern planes
Thanks Matt. That's it in a nutshell. The Andrew Jesky (notable Pattern pilot and designer) AJ Slick IMAC/3D designs are getting closer to that. Looking at the videos, the AJ Slicks seem to have a definite Pattern groove in IMAC precision maneuvers. Pretty sure an AJ Slick will be my next IMAC plane. Sorry to get off topic.

RE: why using high pitch prop on pattern ?
Thrust doesn't seem to be our problem, our models are very light compared to IMAC planes for example, thus we don't need big dia'/low pitch.
I am a Pattern flyer also flying IMAC and also prefer higher pitch props on gas engines. (DA 100L - Menz 26x12 at 7,000 ft ASL) for lower noise and constant flying speed. I also think it improves penetration at high altitudes, say compared to a 27x10. But my Extra 260 QB is a 75cc 32% weighing 22lbs. So I agree with the above on the question of weight. I also tend to think that Pattern pilots tend to know how to trim planes better than the average IMAC flyer, without a Pattern background. ie the benchmark is how a Pattern plane flies.

RE: Moving to Electric - Which Chrager to Buy?
the Cellpro 10S comes equipped with two balancing tails which have sockets to suit Rhino batteries. I have one and use mostly Rhinos. Be aware that you will only be able to charge at 1C when charging two 5S packs at the same time. You can charge single packs at up to 3C. You will also need a power supply for home charging unless you want to flatten your 12V battery pretty quickly.
John. Thanks for the info. What is the difference in time to charge x2 5S packs vs 1? I intend to use the Cellpro power supply with the 10s charger. I am still at the research and info gathering stage. After looking at where you and others have been doing I think I will start out with an 8c setup on an AXI or a Himax motor and a CC HV 80 esc. Probably to go on an AJ 70" Edge/Slick. Andrew's Pattern influence shows up there. As you know I was intially looking at the Extreme Flight 70" Extra. Thanks again!
