RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Can everyone please read the title of the thread, I am 100% sure it states "Dirty Birdy ARF" and not a slanging match between OS Engines. Come on guys, let's hear all about this great aircraft and what it is like to fly. We all have engine preferences and at the end of the day we just enjoy the aircraft with whatever engine it uses. Just my 2c worth and hope the forum gets back on track soon. Off on a weeks holiday to the Maldives tomorrow so will catch up when I get back. Hope to see many more flight reports soon.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Great that the test flight went well. Looking forward to more reports before I get mine in the air. Have to finish off the ESM Hurricane 82" first. Bought the e-flite electric retracts (60 - 120 size) for mine and am sure they will be fine for the aircraft. I always remember how well the 40 size version flew and now looks as though the 60 re-incarnation is as good if not better. Could not afford the "big" one back in the late 70's / early 80's and now have, at last, the chance to fly its big brother.

RE: 120 AX with afermarket pitts and 3d prop reccommendation
Rino, what was the pressure problem that Bisson say is now fixed ? Please read below and see if what I have done is what Bisson have now "fixed". Removed my RCV 91 from the Kyosho Spitfire 90 as had bearing issues and installed an OS 120 AX with Bisson muffler a couple of weeks ago. Engine cut on the first flight with the new engine and the following 4 flights were very short i.e. take off, first turn and engine died. Good job it can glide well !! I did all the normal things before take off with nose raised and needle set on the rich side (engine is new anyway so do not wish to have a lean run) and still it cut. Looked up on the various forums and someone on RC Universe mentioned a similar problem that was cured by moving the pressure nipple. I looked up the muffler on the Bisson site and sure enough, the nipple was now much higher up on the body of the muffler. My exhaust nipple was down towards the bottom and can only presume it was not supplying enough pressure to the tank. Flew 2 flights last Friday (our only day off here in Dubai) and the new position opposite the outlet from the engine was rewarded with a sweet note from the engine for each of the flights. Very relieved and must tell tell the shop of the mod as many other customers may have similar issues.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Strange to relate, I also found a Kavan 12oz tank in my "come in handy one day box" and thought it looked as though it should fit, so that is what it will be. A 9oz tank will be gone in a very short time and don't fancy having a Dirty Birdy shaped glider on my hands !! Not sure of all this talk about formers being easily removed is a good thing, hope the firewall is glued in a bit better !!

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Agree with the comments, I was mightily impressed with the covering of the wing tips and the paint finish on the fuselage is fantastic. A few wrinkles but it has travelled a long way and nothing a few minutes with the iron will not sort out. Must check the aileron alignment properly, did a quick check and did not appear to be far out, what sort of "mis-alignment / warp" are people finding ?

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Mine arrived yesterday and looks great. A few wrinkles on the covering on the Rudder and Ailerons, a few minutes with the iron and they will be gone. Considering the journey the kit has had already - China to the USA and then to Dubai, the box survived remarkably well as contents were all in the same taped position. Need to finish the plane on the work bench first before assembling the DB. Think I will still go the electric retract route and use some 1.5mm to 2mm EPDM sheet for cushioning as per a previous post. Hope to see some flying reviews soon. Safe Landings, Roger.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Hi Vasek, a bit difficult to tell as a fellow flier also ordered the Revolver 70 and lots of other things as well. To give you an indication though, the total bill for all items was $864.21. We then qualified for a $200 discount and the shipping charges using UPS Worldwide Saver were $433.62. So quite expensive but it is a long way from the USA to Dubai. It is now just before 3 in the afternoon and still no call from UPS !!

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Ordered mine yesterday and should be here in sunny Dubai between 2nd to 4th May. Looking forward to building this after finishing the ESM Hurricane 82". Will be using the OS61 FX out of my Reactor Bipe and get some e-flite electric retracts for it as well. Keep the posts coming as all information is valuable and great to here that Joe Bridi is still around. I had the Dirty Birdy 40 in South Africa many years ago and flew great, hope the 60 version flies as well as that one did. Roger

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
One thing puzzles me, on all of the photos shown on the website, not one shows the needle valve, artistic license perhaps ?? Appears to be an OS 61 FX on the photos but as the engine is mounted sideways the needle valve would be out of the top of the cowl and quite clearly it is not there. The video does not show a close up of the cowl area. However, none of this is going to stop me ordering one when available, quite a lot of hype for a plane not yet released. Good marketing job by Great Planes I would say.

RE: Dirty Birdy ARF
Does anybody know / be able to take a guess as to whether or not the E-Flite Electric Retracts (60 to 120 size) will fit in the retract cutouts ? I note in the manual they have only mentioned mechanical or Robarts. Will certainly order one of these planes as many years ago I had the Dirty Birdy 40 and that was such a smooth flier. To be able to upgrade to the 60 size machine with an OS 61 FX for power should be an awesome combination. I have, back home in South Africa, a Webra Speed Racing 61 with pipe that was on the Merati Models Galaxy (as flown in the 1979 World Champs by the Italians), also a great flier until I committed the ultimate sin when inverted. I am sure I do not need to go into details, suffice it to say, that "When inverted down is up and up is expensive !!!

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
Is it possible to attach some photos so that we can all see how you achieved the installation of the EDF ? Like you in Australia, we also have higher than "normal" ambient temperatures and fully cowled installations here are not always possible. My Spitfire goes into hibernation during the Summer as far too hot and do not want to seize the engine.

RE: Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome)
I am a British subject who now resides in the United Arab Emirates but came here from our home in South Africa, is that confusing or what ?? Have always loved the Spitfire and many years ago owned and flew the old Sterling Kits Spitfire. Now fly the Kyosho Spitfire 90 with an RCV 91 and JR 11X Zero radio. Absolutely fantastic flyer and together with a few other club members we get a real kick out of our warbird formations we do on a weekly basis during the winter months (far too hot in Summer with a fully cowled engine). Please add me to the list and I will, at some stage, post video of the Spitfire in “formation with a couple of Mustangs, Me 109 or whatever else is at the field on the day. Great idea and look forward to continuing the read on the forum. Safe landings Roger

RE: When is it time to change a Tx battery ?
If JR, Spektrum and Futaba wanted us to use LiPo's, LiFe packs in the Tx, don't you think they would provide them ? Bit old school but personally believe they (JR, Spektrum and Futaba) know more about their equipment than we are ever likely to know. So we have to charge the Tx before we go fly, big deal. Been flying for over 36 years now and always "charge the night before" and cycle the packs every 6 months or so. A bit of routine maintenance goes a long way to providing hassle free flying.

RE: NEW DLE30!
I have seen that Great Planes are about to introduce the Waco YMF 5D biplane. Looks to be a realy nice plane and great colour scheme. The instructions also give details to fit the DLE 30. I am contemplating this combination if I have trouble in getting the ESM Hurricane 82" from the USA. Tower Hobbies indicate the Waco is available early June. Hope this helps. Safe landings from a warm Dubai.

When George Bush visited Dubai a few years ago, they shut the whole city down with little notice !! That lased from ealr hours of the morning until late afternoon. I have photos of people walking to and from the airport past my flat and that is about 5km from the airport. Nothing and I mean nothing was allowed on the roads.

RE: 9503 or 11x dual rates all on one switch
The 11X in no way feels "cheap". The looks are something that people either love or hate, personnaly I love everything about the radio and we have some pretty harsh conditions to contend with now that Summer is almost upon us. For example today is 45° and tomorrow about the same but with the humidity making it feel like 50°C, does that make us stop flying ? No way, we just get to the field before 06:00 and leave by about 09:30. Enjoy the radio.

RE: DSM2 vs. DSMJ
Recently bought the 11X radio from one of the hobby shops here in Dubai. It is DSM J and works flawlessly. Initially installed it in a fun fly type plane (just in case). It passed that test with flying colours and now resides in a Reactor Bipe with OS 61FX for power. Still works great and very happy with it. So now have both the PCM 9XII (72 MHz) and the 11X. Will slowly move over to the 2.4 GHz system and phase out all my 72MHz Rx's and the 9XII radio. One interesting point is that the system sold here is modular and can accept a 72MHz module. Just install the aerial and continue using that Tx for the other planes, at the moment still use the "old" Tx to fly the 72MHz planes. Of course, you go into the setup menu and change the modulation first !! Have attached a photo of the Reactor Bipe with the 11X. [8D]

RE: Reactor Biplane
[image]OK, have flown it several times now and really grooves. The new engine (OS 61FX) is getting run in and just providing more power than this plane really needs. The JR 11X radio is still functioning very well and the looks are IMHO great. I am bound to say that after purchasing it though aren't I ? But seriously, a great combo and very happy with it all. Have attached a photo after putting some of the stickers on it.

RE: Jr's new 11X
Been using the 11X for the last 6 weeks here in Dubai and it has a look you either love or hate. Personally love it. The radio here is DSM "J", this is the Japanese standard that JR are hoping to thwart the use of cheaper brand Rx's, good point or bad, it's for you to decide. Back to the radio, it feels great to use and all switches and trims fall easily to hand, that is apart from the sliders, one each side, on the back panel. For me, I preferred the slider position on 9XII but hey, take all sorts. Tried it out first in a fun fly plane (just in case) and all was well with the radio. It has 2 remote receivers on the 9 channel Rx with aerials at 90° to each other. At present it is installed in a Great Planes Reactor Bipe with an OS 61FX for power and really "feels" locked in. Perhaps this is due to the higher resolution. Like the backlit screen and ease of programming and being able to switch to th model setup without turning the radio off and again whist holding the "Enter" key. You can also create your own "Favourites" list, this is useful to have either mixes or rates in there as you then do not have to scroll the menus locating them. [:D] I am very pleased with the radio and wish JR all the success as they roll out this radio in the major markets of the world.

RE: Reactor Biplane
Test flew mine yesterday (Friday is our weekend here in Dubai) and all I can say is WOW. Great plane, tracks straight on the take off roll, flies as if on rails and all of this with an OS 61FX at half throttle mostly. I am not into 3D but have no doubt the plane and engine combo is more than capable of it. A few small tweaks of movements (reduction) after the first flight and despite a fair wind across our runway, it lands so easily. Have installed the new JR 11X radio. Looks wicked and works well, very pleased with the whole set up. Attached some stickers last evening as ran out of time on the evening before the "big day". Will post a few photos after the next trip to the field.

RE: JR X11
Bought mine a week ago here in Dubai. Installed it in a fun fly machine with West 36 T1 for power and no problems at all. Like the way the balance point has been altered to suit those of us who fly with a neck strap (the Tx is not fighting its way to vertical as can be found on other radios e.g DSX 9 and Futaba 7CAP) without the use of the balance attachment, nice one JR. Mean looking radio and I like the way it looks and as a reply to "boex", all trims are digital. [:D]

RE: Kyosho Spitfire 90 1/6th scale
Hi everyone, I have been reading this post with interest as I have recently purchased the plane and have just started the assembly process. After having purchased, and still have, an RCV 91CD in a World Models Mustang 60 I decided to purchase the RCV 130CD as it is compact and will fit completely within the cowl. I also purchased, from Just Engines in the UK, a 90° knuckle adaptor and hope to put the silencer exit towards the bottom of the cowled area instead of popping out the side of the cowl. I am sure this engine will be more than adequate for the plane and look forward to many long low passes at full throttle up the runway. As for the radio and servos used, it will have all JR DS 589 servos, RS 77S Synthesised Rx, a 1400mah battery pack and PCM 9XII Tx. A dedicated JR retract servo will be used. Looking forward to some replies in the post about the flying and I will also post a flying report after the maiden flight. This should hopefully be before the end of November. Our flying is done on a Friday and Saturday as I live in Dubai and that is the weekend here. We can guarantee flying weather each weekend as we normally only have about 4 days of rain per year, so wall to wall sunshine and now, as we head into winter, the temperatures are dropping nicely and soon will be about a maximum of about 26°C in December. Good luck to everone who is about to fly their plane and safe landings. Remember, take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.

Hi There Having attended the last JWM in South Africa, I was wondering why the official site has not been updated since 26th July, any news on the static scores ? Apart from that you are doing a fantastic job in keeping us all updated and your photos are fantastic. If you happen to get to talk to Darryl Tarr (UAE Team member) again, please tell him Roger says Hi and good luck. He is a fellow member of the Dubai RC Club and no doubt has told you about our "small" tarmac runway. It is only 300m long x 40m wide !! Keep up the good work.
