RE: DX7 RF Deck Replaced Twice...Why?
Very Interesting................ Hadn't thought to look.............I had my initials written (really small) on the back of my Tx.............not there!!!!! I think they copied the plane programming onto a new DX7 and sent me that rather than repairing the old one. The note I got from the tech said they had found the RF deck wanting and replaced it..........I guess they found the whole Tx wanting........... OK by me.............just shouldn't have taken 39 days..............

DX7 RF Deck Replaced Twice...Why?
When I bought my DX7 a year and a half ago it had no range. I walked away from my plane maybe 15ft and all control was lost. I called Horizon thinking maybe I had messed up on the Rx binding or something.......but, they said no, send it in. When I got it back, the note from the Tech said they had found the RF deck to be bad and replaced it. I have flown quite a lot since and have been satisfied since the repair. A couple months ago I lost a plane straight into the ground.......no control what so ever.......sent the radio and Rx in for inspection.......just got it back.......the note from the Tech said they found the RF deck to be defective and replaced it. That's 2 RF decks in less than two years???? Do RF decks wear out??? Could my charger somehow harm the radio??? Or is this just one of those unfortunate situations where lightning strikes twice in the same place??? I hope someone out there has more experience here than I do and can shed some light on this.........

Hey Wasp, Just to make sure you have "perspective".........go back and read all the posts on page 1 of this little discussion. and............take your favorite Tx out of the case, box it up and send it in for a routine inspection.............. then............come back in six weeks and tell us how warm and fuzzy you feel about the Horizon repair dept. Like I said earlier, Horizon has (until now) been the "Best of the Best" for customer service in the repair dept..........things have changed since you last had to send something in.

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
My Dx7 Tx came back on Friday..............39days since I sent it in............Brutal! I expected an inspection would reveal no issues...........I got a surprise.......... When I bought the radio new a year and a half ago, it had no range........if I walked more than 15ft away from my plane I would lose all control. I sent it in and it was repaired and sent back to me promptly (that was the old Horizon Repair). The tech said it had a bad RF deck and they replaced it.......fine, mistakes happen even with new stuff. The note I got back with the radio this time said essentially the same thing...........the signal was weak so the RF deck was replaced.........AGAIN.......! ?????????? How can that be? What causes an RF deck to wear down? Anyone know anything about electronics?????? Please feel free to enlighten me.

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
I called Horizon to get an update on my Tx.........the tech said I should get it back on July 9th.............that will be 38 days since I sent it off. I asked them if they were aware that these outrageous turn-around times would hurt future business............the answer was "affirmative"..........they know they are not living up to expectations and are committed to fixing it............That's the good news............ The bad news is it probably won't get fixed this year. So, if you need a repair this flying season.........be prepared for a 4-5 week turn-around. Its not the tech's fault......somebody up the ladder gets to take credit for this little fiasco............ I still love my Tx........but, this wait has been brutal.

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
I suggest you send your Tx in for service today...........just to be on the safe side........then, get back with us in a month and share your feelings. Bet you won't be quite so satisfied................... All the good times and fast service were in the past.............not now..........not today I had warm, fuzzy feelings about Horizon service till a month ago.........a 4 week turn-around in July (mid flying season) is brutal................I was expecting maybe 2 1/2 weeks cause it is the busy season.............I have been without my transmitter for 30 days and its not over yet..........and I bet when I do get it............the tech comments will say "everything checked out fine". I don't question the quality of the products or the people................I believe the "quantity" of quality people is the problem.

RE: Spektrum Warranty Service Stinks
I got tired of waiting for my radio and Rx to be returned from inspection so, I called for an update................first call I hung up after being on hold for 45 min.........finally got through the next day just at their start-up. I was told "the turn-around time for repairs is 4 weeks minimum"..................holy crap. I sent mine in on June 1st........I know they got it that week. They didn't log it in till the 8th......now it's 4 weeks from the 8th......at least. Maybe the first week of July........probably the second week. Horizon sold all these 2.4 gig systems in the last couple of years........made a $hit pot full of money........everybody got big bonuses. They increased their market share by a gazillion %............. .............and still have the same number of repair technicians trying to keep up in the middle of flying season. When the crash happens, most blame it on the radio system, so, off it goes to Horizon. How many radios and Rx's do you suppose they get for inspection in a week???............40???......50??? Economy slow..........sales down........who wants to hire more people?? In an economic slow down the first thing to suffer is customer service........cause customer service generally doesn't bring in any new dollar$.......it is an investment in future purchase$. If the company is forward looking, the customer service is held together.............If they are more interested in today's dollar and forget about sales down the road........4 weeks turn-around is what you get. I don't think my radio system has a problem.............I think it was an ESC..........but, when you fly expensive planes, you error on the side of caution. Horizon has always been top notch in their service.........I believe they will be again......however, until they realize that they are jumping over dollars to save dimes there is going to be a lot of down time. ...................and a lot of complaints from waiting flyers.

RE: Graupner Taxi 2400 +DL50?
My Taxi 2400 has a ZDZ 50 NG on it for power............Great combination......has unlimited vertical if you want it.......yet it doesn't seem overpowered at all. Scoots rite along at full power but flies like a cub at half throttle. The flaps are really effective.......really slows it down for very easy landings. All up weight is 18lbs. The DL 50 would be very close to the ZDZ 50 in weight and performance.........I think you will have a very nice airframe/engine combo.

Thanks for sharing that........... Figures........this last transaction I tried to do with him was like the "web order from Hell" First he sends me somebody elses stuff.........I send that back on my dime........then he starts this delay game.......tells he's gonna "take care of me".........then he'll "send my stuff right out"...........then it's "I'll send you what I have". After over 20 days of waiting for my stuff I finally pulled the pin.....cancelled the order and ordered my 4 Rx's from Toddsmodels.com and had them in 3 days. I should have known Don was on his way out......you can't pull that stuff and stay in business these days......too many good guys to deal with on the internet.....and then to stick me with a bogus credit card billing I have to dispute......what a low life. For anyone interested.........Toddsmodels.com is a great place to buy Rx's and you won't have to play any games.....Good Prices........Good Service. RE: Hobby People Shipping Scam
ORIGINAL: gaRCfield I find it amazing that someone can complain about having a giant, fragile package delivered to their door, probably from hundreds or even thousands of miles away, for $20. If you don't want to pay shipping, why don't you just drive and pick it up? These 'scam' rates you see are incredibly discounted shipping rates. How much do you think it would cost YOU to ship a .40 size plane with UPS? Have you tried ordering a plane from a smaller shop, like Wild Hare, Aero-Works, etc.? They can be up to $60-$80, even more for a bigger plane shipped. I think we should be very thankful that we can get these products, have them delivered to our doors, not pay tax, and have warranty and damage coverage for only $20. That's like an hour or two of work to have a plane shipped across the country. I'm a super saver member too, but I buy things elsewhere also. I got a .90 size plane delivered for $30 and thought that was a very good deal.
I just E-Mailed Patty at Wildhare last week to ask what shipping would be to Idaho for a 50cc sized plane.................answer.............no more than $15 bucks. The exact quote was "$10 - $15 bucks". Oh yeah, I know that is not realistic and some freight is built into the cost of the plane....however........the real difference is you don't have to know the dimensional formula versus the actual weight..........."FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS OVER $25" wasn't plastered all over their web site............FREE SHIPPING ON ALL ORDERS UNDER 30lbs wasn't mentioned................... Deception.....Scam........Creative Marketing.......Aggressive Retailing...........call it what you want.............I call itNO MORE SALES TO ME

Sh**t fellas..........scuse me for not measuring up........the fine print says 30 pounds. How come you eagle eyes can't see that...........that is the heart of the SCAM. Most folks will see the 30lbs and KNOW the order is way under that. No, I don't know what a dimensional weight is..............in the world of RC, this plane is in a little box..........I've ordered airplane accessories that come in a bigger box and received FREE SHIPPING. It is a SCAM designed to suck you in.........Go to the site........read the exclusion...... A 6lb 4oz airplane in a 34"X8"X13" box certainly would not register to most of us as oversized. A spade is a spade........ For the nay sayers.........order all you want from them..... RE: Pick-Up Truck Plane Rack/Storage Ideas
Go to the local building supply and buy 6 solid casters (not the swivel kind).........bolt those to the bottom of your plywood so they run in the bottom of the corrugations in your pickup bed.........use common sense to space your casters evenly..........2 up front, 2 in the middle and 2 toward the rear...........now you don't have to crawl in to the front on your hands and knees to retrieve your stuff........it makes a big drawer out of the back of your truck. Find a Harbor Freight catalog and order a set of folding table legs...usually about $10-$20. Bolt 1 under the plywood between your casters so when you pull out the plywood drawer you can fold down the leg to support the plywood when you want to pull it out and leave it out for optimum access. You'll need some 1" PVC pipe for leg extensions so your plywood will be close to level when pulled out....3/4" plywood works best cause it is stiff enough not to flex and belly much....find a buddy with a wire feed welder.........get some light 3" wide flat material and some thin wall square tubing that you can fit a piece of 1" PVC pipe inside.........make 4 brackets that you can support a short piece of 1" PVC vertically.............bolt two to each edge of the plywood approximately the fender-well length apart........now you use these 4 PVC uprights (2 on each side) to fashion horizontal wing holders........with the use of T's, elbows or crosses you can customize the wing holders width and heigth. Maybe as many as 4 wings on each side. And for more support and added possibilities use some PVC pipe to connect the wing holder uprights across your pick up bed on top. Pull your drawer out........put down your table leg........load your heavy flight box up front.......mount your planes to the deck...........hang your wings in the customized holders. You should be able to hold three 1/4 scale planes and all the support equipment easily. As an added bit of fluff........if you have a trailer plug on your bumper.......make a plug in extension cord with a banana plug end so you can charge your stuff off the bumper of your pick up.

RE: Need expert help balancing a giant scale stinger.
I've got the kit built Stinger with a G-62 on it.........the plane was designed with the stock G-62 in mind.....the plans show a G-62 mounted to the plane...I thought I'd lighten mine up by putting a G-62 with electronic ignition on it.....threw the CG out of wack and I ended up tail heavy. Look at how short the nose is from the cockpit forward.....it needs a heavy engine to balance it. Like you said.....the cowl won't let you move the engine much... If I were you......I'd set the cowl off to the side and leave it out of the equation till you get the motor out front enough to get the CG back in line........I bet you have to move it out at least 3 to 5 inches..........................stand back and look at how short the nose is. Set the motor out front a ways.......get the CG you want.......fly the plane and get it dialed in........then you can decide how and if you want the cowl mounted for looks.
