RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
After you glass it, cover it with the Flite Metal Foil, that stuff looks great.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
If you read enough BUSA build threads you will hear of this problem quite often. My Super Cub plans have problems and the DR1 had issues as well.

Red Wing, if your not going for the ultra scale look cut a hole for the velocity stack and you can choke your g26 with your thumb in the stack.

RE: Very bad answer from HH service department
In the last six months I have been so frustrated with HH that I try to purchase anywhere else but HH. My radio gear is all JR, but I find I would rather go through an online middle man than deal with Horizon.

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
Great pics Phil. The 1/3 Busa had somthing we had never seen before, the owner covered the fiberglass cowling with Iron on covering. Thats one way to get a color match.

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
Attended an Aerotow in Tucson today and observed how to tow gliders. There was 3 Tugs that pulled most of the Gliders, a 60% Cub with a 275cc 3W, a 1/3 Busa Super cub with a DA 100, and a large Ugly stick. The Super Cub seemed to be the Tug of choice until it hooked the tow line on the Barbed Wire fence and was instantly jerked out of the sky. The 60% Cub towed a 1/2 scale glider up with no problem. SunDevilpilot aka Phil will probably post some pics later. One of the most interesting combos was to see that Giant Cub pulling a small Foamy Glider. I thought it would fold the wings for sure, but it did fine. One fella lost a nice 3 meter Glider, simply lost sight of it and it flew away. Tough way to loose a plane. Ron

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
I know what you mean about the Garage being Hot, at 103 today, I am thinking of building on swing shift tonight when it gets down to 90. My other option is to get up at 4am while its in the 70s. My goal was to finish construction before May, probably not gonna happen. I don't mind covering in the house or building for that matter, but soon I will be moving in my Whitewater Raft gear into the garage for two upcoming trips. That stuff takes up the whole garage. I need a Three Car garage. Or a compound like Denis' with a building room overlooking the airport[&:][&:]

RE: Balsa USA Fokker DR1 1/4 scale
Scarf Tip: cut it long and use a very small white/clear wire tie to hold it in place. If you tie a knot it gets too bulky around the neck.

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
The error on that rear post was that I had the old instruction manual in a new kit. BUSA nis not sure how this happened. A good guage of referance is the die cut rear window plywood. It will show you the basic measurement. If your building your fuse stock without any modifications you should not have a problem. I have only flown small electrics off floats so I won't be much help in that area.

RE: Balsa USA Fokker DR1 1/4 scale
Good luck Anthony, I flew my Triplane this week. Balsa USA's advice in the book is wise. Don't mess around on the ground, Gun-It and Go. They are climbing Devils so don't be surprised if it wants allot of down trim. I know you have heard all this before so I'll shut up. I think you will like the DLE 30, my Z26 is OK, but not much left for reserve. I bought a DLE 30 for mine, but put it in my quarter Cub, and its too fun to remove. Ron

RE: 1/3 BUSA Super Cub Build
Sherman, the aircraft in post #492 has a Saito Gas Twin. Looks like the perfect engine for this build to me. I considered it, but decided to go a less expensive route with the used 80 I purchased. I think there are some youtube video of that combo. Enjoy your build, ask all the questions you like. I am learning as I go just like you. This is my first airplane over quarter scale. Ron

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
It may be an advantage on mine to slow it down since steering it does not seem to be an option after touch down. Today I had full right rudder after landing and it still went hard left.

I would not use the Balsa USA Skid. You can throw that in the trash. Check out Waconut's operational DR1 skid, very nice craftsmanship, you'll appreciate it.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
Pat, I am prone to exaggeration, so Eight colors it is! Phil, a lot of the full scale WW1 birds fly with tail-wheels. I think I would do a Skid. I am going to put one on my Dr1.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
Those Big round cowlings are great for side carb engines. You dont even need a custom muffler. Get ready for a complicated paint job. I count eleven colors on this plane.

RE: Balsa USA 1/4 Scale Nieuport 28 Build
Rick had his Batts up forward of the Firewall on his WW1 Electric DR1. When you make your next BUSA order go ahead and order a second, or even third set of landing gear wire. They sell the replacement for a reasonable price, about $10. While your doing your structural soldering you can make a spare set. It can be changed in five minutes. A few guys do the bungee suspension, but some that have gone to all the trouble say its not worth the effort.

Tonight I set a simple clamp for the throttle and was able to get a nice steady idle. The engine is running good and I think it will have enough power.
