RE: Futaba 8J or Eclipse 7 Pro or other?
I bought a new 8J last month after retiring my Futaba Super 8 for last 15 years. The 8J is a great value at $239 with 2 rx's ($279 - $40 coupon tower), and extra Futaba rx's are only $35 shipped. I have replaced rx's and test flown 11 planes so far, all with perfect results. Here's a few -

RE: Are 2 Batteries worth it?
I have a couple of those GP Cherokee's I fly, they are really good flying planes and fun with the flaps. The 600 mah was fine years ago when we all ran 4 servos, back in the 60's and 70 we used to run 400mah Gates packs which were really bad, but best we had in the day. Nowdays with 2.4 radios and more servos, get the most mah you can for the money - nimh packs are cheap - this 2300mah 5 cell one under $10 with shipping - http://www.ebay.com/itm/6V-2300mAh-Ni-MH-AA-Rechargerable-Receiver-Battery-Pack-/370530538202?pt=Radio_Control_Parts_Accessories&hash=item56455752da

30 four strokes are not very strong - go with a 32 to 46 2 stroke. The Kobra and King Kobra are both great flying planes.

Adjust top end (full throttle) first, then go to idle - if it's too rich screw airbleed out (separate screw on front of carb), too lean screw in.
ORIGINAL: Bax There is no high-speed mode in SFHSS air systems. Only the 4PL car system. The airplane systems can use any servo you desire to plug into them.
Then what is the difference in S-FHSS and FHSS.

RE: Servos for SFHSS
ORIGINAL: Bax This is being way over thought. You can use ANY regular servo, digital or analog with that receiver. When we say ''that receiver'', that means receiver. Mode is irrelevant. If we were going to mention a mode, we would have. The R2008SB receiver operates on FHSS mode when an FHSS transmitter is present, and S-FHSS mode when an S-FHSS transmitter is present. It does not ''care'' which servos you use. However, you MUST use S-Bus servos on the S-Bus, or an S-Bus decoder when you use other servos. Again, we don't know where the idea came from that FHSS and SFHSS affected the servos.
Where the thought came from is that S-FHSS is suppose to be high speed mode (I thought) and most sources say you cannot run analog servos in high speed mode - you have to use digital or you can burn up servos. Is S-FHSS high speed mode, and if it is ok to use all the time with all servos, then what is the FHSS setting used for.

Futaba 8J battery pack size
I just bought the new Futaba 8J tx and it does not come with rechargable batteries - this is the pack you can get for it - http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?I=LXVUB4&P=8 - a little pricey for a 5 cell pack. I know these are not AA but shorter, what size are these and where can i get a reasonable priced 5 cell pack.

New Futaba 8J
Just got the new Futaba 8J in, first impressive is great - http://www.futabarc.com/systems/futk8100-8j/index.html . I just retired my trusty 8UAF after 15 years of hard use, and did a lot of research before buying the 8J. Also know the Futaba programming so that was a factor. The new tx holds 20 planes, uses the new Futaba FHSS (not compatable with FASST), no external antenna which I like and display/general layout are just right. One of the main reason I hadn't upgraded to 2.4 until now was the cost of rx's since I have about 20 planes RTF, found the 6 channel Futaba online for $39 each shipped - I'm sure China will be coming out with some clones soon. The sticks are very smooth and tight. About the only negative I can say is that it doesn't come with rechargable battery or charger, no big deal, I can put them in. Probably the best thing was the price - $279 at Tower with $50 off coupon - $229. Hope to test fly it this weekend if the rain will ever stop down here in FLA.

RE: Where is a good place to break in an engine?
I usually crank a new engine on a plane, tune it rich and fly - if I hear it going lean I land and richen it - it's not that complicated -

RE: Engines dying randomly?
It's your fuel - fuel can go bad overnight if you let air in, which condensates water into fuel. Taken from - http://pages.suddenlink.net/donramsey/Fuel.htm Contrary to many things you might have read or heard, just about the only thing that adversely affects model fuel is the absorption of moisture from the air. Keep the air away from it, and your fuel will likely be potent longer than you are! Methanol - the major ingredient in model fuel - is hygroscopic. This means it's virtually 100% soluble in water, and absorbs moisture from the air like a vacuum cleaner sucking up dirt. Most modelers have no idea how rapidly this can - and does - happen, and tend to be rather skeptical about the idea. Let me paint a picture for you: Almost everyone has spilled a little fuel on the top of their fuel can in their flight box. If so, you've no doubt noticed that the shallow film of raw fuel takes on a cloudy, milky look. What you are seeing is the methanol sucking moisture right out of the air. Since the quantity of fuel is thin with a lot of surface area, the absorption is rapid, the water won't mix with the oil and the fuel turns cloudy. Just remember how quickly this happens…..almost immediately….and it might give you an idea of just how quickly your fuel can be ruined if you leave the cap off, allow a vent tube to remain open, etc. The wide surface area relative to the quantity of the fuel exposed is disproportionate, of course, to leaving the cap off the fuel jug, but I think you get the idea. In a humid condition such as exists in parts of the U.S., it doesn't take very long at all to adversely affect your fuel. And it doesn't take a large opening….a cross-threaded cap, a small vent line, etc. is all that's needed to do the damage.

One of my favorite planes, been flying it about 5 years with a Magnum 91 which works perfect. Just used standard servos, flys great, and looks good in the air, lands slow. The 120 will work fine, weight is not a problem with all that wing area.

RE: Super Tigre Ringed 40
ORIGINAL: Hobbsy I have an Italian made and a Chinese made .51, they are identical. ST moved the mfg equipment to China so they are made on the same machines unless they've been replaced with newer stuff.
Although the equipment might be the same, the operators and raw materials (metals) are most likely different. Having run and used ST's from Italy over 40 years, they were very precision made and ran very smoothly. I bought 4 of the "new" St 40 GS years ago when they first came out, and the best I would rate them is ok. I'm not saying they were bad, just not the same -

RE: Do You Prefer Wood Props or Nylon Props?
Having run most props over the last 40+ years, I now use APC on anything .25 to 1.60. As mentioned above, they are consistantly strong, balanced and give overall best performance IMHO. I used to fly Quikee 500 type racing back in the 80's, we were all using TF racing props on Webra 40 engines (pic of some leftovers). When APC came out with their pylon props, everyone changed over. We used to lean the engines up to about 19,000 and richen back down to 18,700rpm at takeoff. Of course of you're flying a nice slow WWI biplane, a nice scale wood prop sure looks good.
