RE: Wichita Ks. Q500-Q40 Races
Thanks Paul, Mike and all the Wichita crew for putting on a great race. As Scott said we had a late start on Saturday with a low ceiling and some drizzle but after that cleared up we got some good racing in. Sunday started out a little overcast put cleared up and was a beautiful day to race. For those of you that haven't been to the Lake Afton field you should come out next year. It's a great field to fly at with a nice 500 + foot asphalt runway with a grass runway right next to that, a wide open area to fly in and great workers. LF

RE: A Shout Out....
Paul, It was my pleasure to have you fly my back up plane, and it was a blast beating each other up for those 15 or so laps. I'm glad that you were nicer than Dan and didn't take my plane out like he did. (Sorry DK it had to be said). I look forward to seeing you at future events. Just an FYI there is a two day event coming to KC the first full weekend in October. It will be like Bloomington where it will be two one day races, consisting of 424 and 426. See you soon, Lonnie

New Computer for the timing system is purchased and the software is installed. Now to get the lights out and to do a full system check. AJ a Vortex, really? You think that is gonna help you keep up with us? I got your Viper back from my daughter and have it fixed, well sort of fixed. Hopefully the bangy bangersons from Wichita will stay away from the rest of the planes.

KCRC Fall 2011 424 & 426 Race - October 1st and 2nd
The Fall KCRC 424 & 426 2 day race is a short 4 weeks away - October 1st & 2nd. It is two one day races so even if you can only make it out one day come on out and enjoy a great race at a great flying site. This will be the first two races in the District 5 2012 - 424 Lead Goose and 426 Cauldron trophies. With the turn out we've had the last couple years you have a great opportunity to get an early start on your points. Highlights: Judgeman Use your Laptop PC for making precision digital measurements of incidence & control throws! Digital Light System Experienced work force Great flying site Tough competition and some donkeys from the flatlands of KS. Short course action And of course Chop Ulledahl will be cooking up some barbeque brisket and porkbutt on Saturday night after the races. Finally to borrow a line from AJ, let the bench racing begin. **Edited post for the new menu on Saturday night**

Figured it was the least I could do. The only ones you really need to avoid are those guys from the flat lands (mainly Wichita). They don't seem to like it when your out in front and tend to cut your tail off. You know who you are Bangy Bangerson. Parts huh? Putting some secret weapons in your planes? Guess I ought to get that Viper of yours back from my daughters play room. Don't worry she has done some great work on it for you.

Ok I talked with Duane this morning and it looks like we are going to pass on EF1 at this point. He is concerned that it would make for too long of a day for everyone trying to fly all three classes.

RE: KCRC Fall 2011 424 & 426 Race - October 1st and 2nd
AJ I know it's been a while since you've been to the hill country and you might be a little disoriented but don't worry one of us will be glad to show you the way around the course. Eddie, that will be Duane's call. He's been working 12 hour days so I'm not sure how often he's looking at the forums. I'll see if I can get an answer out of him. I'm sure he'll want/need to know that amount of interest in it. So if you guys are interested in flying EF1 post it here so we can see what kind of interest there will be. I will say that when they tried to do 3 classes at Muncie during the fall race it made for a pretty late day. If I remember correctly the racing ended around 6. Then once results are calculated and if you have a couple fly offs your looking closer to 7 with the trophy presentation. That puts it pretty late, especially on Saturday night with the dinner. But that is purely my thoughts and opinion.

RE: E Flite Shoestring for EF1
Mike, First thanks for the compliment. Building, flying and writing about the Shoestring was a lot of fun. Second let me answer your questions based on what I’ve heard, seen and experienced personally. One: Personally I have 3 – 2700mah 65c Thunder Power (lost one in the crash at the NATS) and a 2500mah 30 E-Flite battery. From what I can tell the 30c seems to “lay down” the last couple laps but some of that might be a mental thing as I heard the same thing you did prior to actually flying an EF1. The biggest difference that I can confirm is the 65c batteries are cooler at the end of the flight compared to the 30c one. Two: It’s my understanding that the scheme you saw was the only one that is going to be issued. Three: From what I can tell this really isn’t necessary. The “tube” on the bottom of the cowl is directly in line with the ESC so if you open that and the exit hole in the fuse you’ll have great airflow over it. I never checked the temp of the motor but it never seemed to be very hot. I think the aluminum spinner and stand offs act like a heat sink and pull the heat away from the motor. If you thought it was necessary it would be pretty easy to duct air from the cowl cheeks to the motor. Four: Quite frankly I used what they sent me; personally I’d use Futaba S9650’s. That being said I didn’t note any centering issues with the MN48’s, and with the lack of vibration you shouldn’t have a longevity issue. Also to let you know the MN48’s are a direct drop in the holes for the tail surfaces. The only reason the 368’s are recommended for the wing is because it’s a pretty thin airfoil. Five: I’ve used both the E-Flite 60amp and the Castle Creations Ice 75amp. Unfortunately they were used in two different planes so I can truly compare them apples to apples but I think the CC one is a little better. I will tell you that the CC speed control will not fit in the slot that is built into the Shoestring, it’s way too tall. The slot is pretty much a direct fit for the E-Flite speed control. When I first got started in this I asked what battery connectors I needed and I was told that I needed a connector that could handle 70 amps so in my simple mind I should have a speed control that can handle that much as well. I was also told that the battery has more of an impact on the performance than the ESC. At the NATS there were all different combinations of batteries, speed controls and motors. No one airplane had a clear speed advantage, it was more about the course you flew. Sorry for the long reply and thanks again for the compliment. Lonnie

RE: EF-1 OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
Horizon announced at the NATS that they are going to be releasing the Shoestring in October. I was lucky enough to get one of them and they are great kits, very complete, and fly great. From listening to other people talk you don't have to "fight" the Shoestring as much as you do the Pogo. Lonnie
