RE: Storage - hanging jets from the ceiling
Wow, Gonzalo, that is a fantastic field! I usually go to Mendoza, Argentina once a year flying through Santiago. I may just have to extend my time in Chile and come out and visit! Make me jealous tho! Won't want to go home.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Bill, I didn't mix any elevator in with my flaps on mine, didn't need it. If I noticed it climbing with the flaps, it meant I had too much throttle in and reduced it just a bit and it maintained it's altitude.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Miker, I can send it to you as a .pdf file tonight when I get home from work if you haven't received it by then. I ended up replacing my sequencer with one from Jet-Tronics as the original one worked fine for quite a while, but then out of the blue started acting up, opening and closing the inner doors at random times and finally just failed altogether. Luckily it failed when the gear were down!

Hidden hatches
A couple of years ago, I purchased a couple of hatch "kits" that could be installed in the side of a fuselage or wherever you desired to hide items such as switches, air fill valves, charge ports, etc. They were very nice laser cut items in a couple of sizes. Now I need some for a new project and can't remember where I purchased them from. Anyone have any idea who sells these? I know I purchased them off the net, but just can't remember who from! Thanks, guys.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
SP, Good, glad you got it out without any trouble, hope you are out flying today. I was going to go flying, but a buddy was racing at El Mirage lakebed today, so went out there instead. I know what you mean about spare parts - I call it the spare tire therory, if you have a spare tire, you'll never need it, leave it at home once, you're screwed!! I'm thinking of ordering a spinner from Tru-Turn as I want to try a Menz prop and it won't fit into the stock spinner. A friend I fly with has the TF P-51 with a DA50 and is using a Menz 20x12 prop and his plane hauls a**!

Ha! I could have written that last post!! You're right, seems as if you fix one problem another shows up. I too have way too much time and money in this one to get rid of it, besides, it just flies and looks so good! I had trouble with my gear door sequencer and finally just replaced it with a Jet-Tronics unit. Works flawlessly now. Think I've finally got everything fixed. Flew 5 flights on Sat and 4 on Sun last weekend without 1 issue at all! Just let me know if you need the back plate.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
SP, The only solution I can think of is to rotate the spinner 90 degrees and redrill new holes. As long as the prop holes line up with with the backplate and engine, I think it should work. Not sure why your screws are breaking tho? Only trouble I've had is the head of the screw getting messed up, but I bought a bunch of them and just replace them. Worse comes to worse, I think I have an un-drilled (prop holes) back plate I can send you.

RE: PISCO vs FESTO? Same thing?
Used the Pisco on the race car, they failed a lot more often than any of the Festo or SMC fittings. Finally quit using them and stayed with SMC. I realize that's an unscientific test, but can't afford to lose a race due to failed air fitting and never had trouble with the SMC fittings, albiet they are a bit more expensive.

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???
Eddie, I just sunk a small magnet (from Radio Shack) in the lower rear corner of the window hatch, re-covered it with some spare covering, and did the same on the underside of the right wing panel. It holds just fine, but of course, I don't fly with it open as I fly mine exclusively off water and don't want any spray getting into the cockpit.

RE: Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Piper Cub ARF???
Dave, I glued mine in with Pacer Formula 560 canopy glue. Takes a while to dry but it dries clear, is slightly flexible so you don't develop cracks near screws or screw holes, and while it's wet, you can clean it up with a damp paper towel. I have just under 200 flights on my H9 Cub, with all but 4 on water and have had absolutely no problems with anything on the plane as of yet. Landing on floats are so pretty, you can bring it in so smoothly, you can drag the water rudders before the floats even touch!

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Ha! I did notice the plane is offered without gear! Hmmmm. Funny you mention about the connection with the engine. I talked to the guys from DA at the AMA show and they asked it I had a ignition kill wired in (I do) and suggested I bypass it to see if that's the problem. Also mentioned about the battery and switch. Plus, I do still have to stock Anderson Powerpoles on the wires, so may change those to Deans. They said their ignition is very tolerant of heat and usually won't overheat under normal circumstances. I haven't had time to delve into it yet and give these a try.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Zeeb, Thanks for the suggestions, I DID move the ignition inside and that's when I quite having dead sticks for quite a while. Just all of a sudden without doing any changes, the problem started again. I change the entire fuel system, tank, clunk, lines, filter, everything and still does it. My next thing is either try a new ignition box or rebuilding the carb, but I doubt it's the carb as it runs fine for anywhere from 4 - 7 minutes then just suddenly dies. Usually when the engine overheats, you can hear it sag a little, lose power, then it dies. Mine, just gives a cough, then about 5-10 seconds later dies, almost like it's running out of fuel. On another note, I got a good look at the B model at the AMA show and talked to Rocco quite a bit. It's really a nice looking model and I'm sure the fans of B models will like it. (Me - I'm a D model type!)

I've been having alot of problems with my DA going dead in flight. It's weird, just started happening after a lot of perfect flights, can't figure it out. Oh well, just keep plugging away at it.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Zeeb, This is the one I have been using for several years. It's outlasted a few of my retract aircraft! I've replaced the battery once, but the nice thing is, it's the same 12v battery most of us have in our flight boxes. Just made an adapter to go from the flip locking air chuck to the style air fill valves I use in my aircraft, but I'm sure you can figure something out. http://www.amazon.com/Campbell-CC-2300-Portable-Inflator/dp/B000KL0HX4/ref=sr_1_43?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1321936946&sr=1-43

RE: VQ P-61 CONTRUCTION
Say guys, I've had a VQ P-61 on the back burner for some years now and when I finally dug it out to get going on it again, I seemed to have missplace the top center section of the fuselage - the part that covers the center section over the wing after a move. I've tried contacting Tomas at VQ Warbirds to see if by chance any parts or pieces were left around still, but no luck. Anyone have any spare part that I could use or be willing to construct one using their own as a pattern? It would not have to be covered or even finished to covering state, as I purchase a full set of spare covering from VQ when I purchased the plane. I would gladly pay for time, materials and shipping. It's really the only thing holding me up from FINALLY completing this bird! Worst part is I had the retract and brake valves with servos mounted in it to! Oh well. Please PM me if you are able to help. Thanks.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
James, I DID have the stock valves leak air, even after I took them apart and lubed the o-rings. That's the reason I changed to the red Robart's. I've used those in several aircraft and have never had a problem with them. The air cylinders in the stock gear leaked on mine also, so compounded with the valves, I was lucky if it would hold air for an entire flight. Now, no problem. As far as the tail wheel, I haven't had any problems with air leakage there at all, so I've just left it alone. Also, just a word of caution, keep an eye on the servos for the air valves. I had one the the bottom broke out and quit working. Another person here did too, so I replaced those also.

RE: Aero Works P-51?
Zeeb, I have about 35 flights on mine now and the tail gear is the one part of the stock system that I haven't had any trouble with at all and I charge my air system to 110 psi before take off. As far as the tail wheel steering, I just set it up with the cables tight (just like the rudder cables) with the gear was extended and it's been fine. Mine, with the Sierra gear and Robart valves installed will only lose maybe 5-10 lbs of air in 24 hours, I also installed 2 additional air tanks, (1 large and 1 small Robart) as it seemed the larger Sierra gear cylinders needed more air volume. Might be a bit of overkill as I can cycle the gear (starting down, gear up then down again) about 8 times before the pressure reaches the setpoint I have for the Tam Jets gear failsafe (50psi)

Zeeb, I too, like Mark am running Fromeco Li-Ion's regulated down to 5.95v. I haven't had any problems except for a weird abnormality (see post 837), but I doubt voltage has anything to do with that (and last time I flew, the abnormality didn't even occur). I think Mark is right, it MAY work for a while but fail from overvoltage at the worst possible time. Thanks for the compliments on the photos, guys. I wish I could take the credit, but they were taken by a fellow club member and I didn't even know until he asked me for my email address to send them to me.

I've been flying mine now quite a bit now that I have the gear sorted out. Flew her 6 flights last Saturday without any problems whatsoever. Flies very predictable and landings are relatively easy to make look good. Has become one of my favorite planes to take out to the field. Finally got some in-flight shots and thought I'd share them.
