RE: quicktech hobbies
There's another thread reporting similar problems (here in rcgroups). Makes we wonder why they would fill an order so quickly for one (mine) and then totally shaft someone else. Read some of the pages they have on thier site and they sure have a dislike for rcu where there is additional commentary - apparently they don't realize rcu actually consists of a large part of their potential customer base. RE: quicktech hobbies
Anyone still having trouble with Quicktech ? I'm curious, having found this forum after ordering from them. I did have trouble with communication - they did not answer my requests for an order confirmation (using the "required" form on their website) and a phone call I made a week later let me leave a message only - it was never returned. BUT I did get the plane I ordered and in a very timely manner. I can't complain about the price or delivery, only the communication. Would I order there again ? If the price was right, I would take the chance. Too bad there's no way of letting them know their communication problems are probably costing them a lot of sales ! (p.s. - the Kansas BBB lists them as a Used Car business, does that make any sense to anyone ?)

RE: RC Report Online!! For Real!!
One comment about bnebb's comments - I will not subscribe to a publication I must read on line. I don't mind printing out a PDF (even if it is 118 pages) so I can read it at the breakfast table. I know it's possible to print out an HTML page too but it leaves out a lot of print formating that PDF provides. I also like the high resolution photos - they provide detailing you can't even pick up from a well printed magazine copy. And with so many users now on high speed DSL or cable, I don't see download speeds as being a big problem. Richard

I've never seen or heard of RC Report. It's not on the local Hobby Shop magazine racks. I just heard of it via an RC news group and the news was not good. So I checked it out on line. The Feb draft sure looks great. I'd definitely subscribe if the price is right. In any case, good luck in your endeavor. Richard

Supposedly ARF versions of the Electric Lazy Bee 40", the Glow Big Bee 60' and the Glow Speedy Bee 52" are all available through Global Hobby retailers. But I can't find any. The only kits/arfs/plans I've found have been via eBay or individuals selling on the forums. Check eBay and ask on this forum and you might find someone at least willing to sell a plan ! RE: Source for small speed control ?
Umi I looked at the ProBoat unit also, the $40 price isn't bad. And I like the waterproof aspect of the ProBoat ESC but it's only available as a 40amp unit, a bit much for my 2.4amp motor. Also the higher amp units typically have a higher resistance making them more inefficient at the low amperage draws. I did buy a ESC from eBay last year, don't know the make but it was rated 40amps and it sure looks like the ProBoat unit, I'm using it in a 26" speed boat. Incidently in all this searching I also found a unit by Dynamite (DYN4925) that sells for $30, does forward/reverse and will handle 110amps continuously. Should be a great unit for a speed boat ! Source for small speed control ?
I asked about this in the "Speed - Electric" forum but it was suggested I also ask here - I have a model Tug running a 2.4 amp 6 volt Pitman motor. Power is via an 8.4 volt NiCd. I was going to use an old Hitec SP-5/10A ESC I have but it seems to have passed away so I'm looking for a substitute. Most of the speed controllers I've looked at are rated for upwards of 40 amps, a bit big for the application. Does anyone know of a reversing speed controller more appropriately sized for this motor ? Richard

COMO .90 parts
I've got a brand new COMO .90 and I need another needle valve. I realize the COMO was made by SuperTigre and have contacted Hobbico (ST sends you to Hobbico for the old parts) asking if they could provide, if not parts, at least part numbers but apparently they don't have any info on the COMO engines. So I was wondering if anyone has a parts list ? I think the COMO used the same carb parts as the ST so if I can find a COMO list I may be able to do a cross reference. I also did some measuring - the COMO needle has 66 threads/inch (26 threads/cm) and an outside thread diameter of approx .087" (2.25mm). If someone has a older ST .90, perhaps they could tell me if the dimensions match. Thia is a needle with a 90 degree turn on the end and a separate nut that acts to tighten the needle. I believe ST used the same needles for a wide range of engine sizes, such as the .35 through at least the .90 so it should be easier to find a needle if that is correct info. Any help at all would be appreciated. Richard

RE: Identify an old bipe ?
Robert Silk ? Probably, all my control line planes were done in silk (many years ago). Course it was the old silk that loved to shrink when you doped it. Don't think the preshrunk you get today will work as well. I see that link lists paints for silks. Have you ever tried any ? Are they fuelproof ? How about the silks they list ? I see "Crepe De Chine" lists a shrinkage rate of 14% & 10% so it might work good. Ever tried any ? In any case, Thanks Richard

Thank you Gentlemen, thats it ! I did a search for EAA kits and found Balsa USA has a 60" (looks just like what I've got) so that's probably the source. [sm=thumbs_up.gif] I'd definitely like to redo in the original color scheme. The skin is sagging a bit so maybe I'd need to strip and recover but I've never tackled a job like that before. And again, that base color, "creme" or whatever, is not one I've seen so don't know how to achieve it. Richard

Identify an old bipe ?
I bought this Bipe at a swap meet recently, looked too good to pass up [:D] . Has a 60" WS. I plan on putting a Como .90 in it. Otherwise it only needs a little work to make it flyable. I'm not sure if it was built from a kit or scratch built. Not even sure if it's a semi-scale copy of an existing Bipe. Can someone identify it for me ? Richard p.s. - can someone tell me what color was used for the base paint ? If I ever get the urge, I might try to strip it and do a repaint but I don't remember seeing an aerosol that's close to that color. It is a painted fabric, maybe silk, finish.

COMO S-90
I just picked up a COMO S-90, apparently brand new. I know SuperTigre built these, possibly as a special for World Engines. I hope to use it in an old 60" Bipe (1080 sq.in.wing area) that has around a 10lb AUW. To fit in the cowl, the engine needs to be mounted inverted. This puts the throttle arm on the opposite side from the servo pushrod. All leading me to a few questions - Does this engine sound like it should handle this size Bipe OK ? Does anyone have any experience with these, especially how well do they operate inverted ? And what fuel do they like ? Can the carb be rotated 180degrees to place the needle and throttle arm on the other side without creating running problems ? And are there any funny things I should be aware of ? Hoping for some help ! Richard

RE: Old Style Covering ?
The Eastbourne is a 43" WS (321 sq.in.) oldtimer that I'll drive with a brushless outrunner so fuels not a problem. AUW is about 20 oz. so lightness is of some concern. I do know the difference between something like "So-Lite" and "Super Coverite" (which I've been told looks like fabric ?) would be close to 2 oz. so I do worry a bit about picking up too much weight. I looked for 21st Century covering, found it (appearance would probably be perfect) but couldn't find any weight info. [:o] Richard
