RE: EDF reversing for air brakes
I thought of the chute, but I liked the reversing better. What better way to show it off than to put the plane on the middle of the runway at the maiden flight, and back it down to the end of the runway for takeoff? While I have your attention, if for instance each EDF will have a 60amp ESC, what size wire, relay-rated contacts, etc will I need? I know by NEC the ratings on wires for their ampacities (#12 for 30amps etc) but the wire sizes and their ratings are very different. Any advice will really help. RE: EDF reversing for air brakes
The resistance of the relays/wires will be almost non-exsistant. I am putting them (4) at each pod since I need to have 8 ESC's. That way the wires will be as short as possible, and I can use a much smaller relay. If I used a single large relay with all of those contacts, the relay and the weight of the wires would be rediculous! I had run the feeds into the wings with a seperate feed for each set of EDF's and the weight it added was insane. From a suggestion from one of the guys in our club (CORSAIR) I changed the main spar to an aluminum tube and made that a + buss and added a #4 bare copper wire for the -. This really cut the weight and gives the same power. You all are probably correct about not needing all 8 EDF'S to reverse to brake the BUFF. That would cut down on the weight since there would be less relay weight. In response to the gentleman saying that I could probably use 4 EDF'S instead of all 8, I can't wait to hear all 8 roaring at takeoff. For that sound alone I will still be using 8. If anyone needs the diagram for the 4pole relays, let me know. I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN

RE: Number of servos per channel
Couple thing come to mind with this information: 1. Are S3010 servos big enough for an airplane that size. Esxpecialy 1 per aileron 2. Instead of ganging all 4 servos together, use the elevators and ailerons on there own channel and then use mixing as required to accomplish the flight control you are trying to get. 3. What radio are you using? 1) With the chart I have it does say that with one servo per aileron I would need 75oz/in which is correct for this S3010. The rub is that this chart only goes up to a 100" span and I'm doing about 144". HELP! 2)That was what I was trying to do, you say it much better that I could. Sorry for the mixup. 3)Futaba 6EX-2.4GHz I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN.

It is a scratch built B-52. I was going to try this setup since the elevator control surfaces are scale, but seem small compared to the ailers. The aliers run the length of the TE of each wing. It is about a 12' span.[sm=spinnyeyes.gif] NO FACTORY INSTALLED SMOKE RELEASES.

Number of servos per channel
I am building a rather large plane and was considering operating the 4 typical elev and aler control surfaces all as elevons. I will be using 4-S3010 Futaba servos and a R606FS Rx. The Futaba site quotes 8amps continuious and 10amps peak-is this per channel? I wasn't able to find the draw on the servos. Also, is this a good idea for the surfaces? Time for a stupid question! Is it possible to run 2 brushless motors on one ESC? For example: If you have 2 motors that are identical and are listed to use a 25amp ESC, shouldn't it be possible to use one 50amp ESC instead of 2? [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN.

I tried block filler. It is used by painters for filling in the holes in cement block before painting. I used it on my son's F-15 foamie. It took a few coats, but it did fill all the tiny holes.

Too funny! That pix is about the same as the one I mocked up. Had a friend of mine suggest I prototype it on an Erector set, I've 3 of them. Ended up with almost what you said. 2 equal trailing arms to lower the vertical steering axle in a straight line, and the inner trailing arms equal but at an angle so that when they both go down they are pushed out. All arm links will be ball-type. Will put up a pix when I'm done with the proto. I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN

I'm building a B-52 with a 12' wingspan and am taking ideas for LG. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8529263&key= Here's some pix of real ones. I am planning to build them myself, but would be happy for some ideas. They look like when they retract the wheels move inboard and then up. They also do 4 wheel steering. I do have a 2000 CAD program, but am just starting on it. You folks must do this all the time, this thing is tough to learn. Thanks I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=8529263&key= There are some pix at this thread of the LG. It looks like they move in horiz and then up. The other wrinkle is that they have 4 wheel steering so it can turn in less than a city block. That makes sense about the thrust/weight ratio. I'm just so used to the close to 1:1. I do have the stuff to make my own, just need to find a design. Thanks all! I REJECT YOUR REALITY AND SUBSTITUTE MY OWN

What did you have to do about making sure there was equal thrust on each motor? I think that even though each motor is made the same, they have different characteristics, or is it so small that it doesn't even matter?

RE: Flaps for a B-52
Right now it is fairly rigid, with about a 2" bow with a force of about 10lbs applied at the middle. If I'm seeing it correctly, the real B-52 on the tarmack has no dihedral, it is created in flight when the weight is taken up by the wings. Also, I'm wondering how much torque I'm going to need to operate the control surfaces. I was considering putting 2 standard Futaba servos in tandem to operate each aileron. Also, I'd like to completely enclose the servos and rods in the wings. I think the lever arms would have enough room in the wing. Does anyone have some formulas for these processes?
