RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Well my predator ate it today.... hardcore. First flight it lifted off good and then took a hard roll... not sure what happened interference possible because the violent turn it took was insane! The damage was a broke left wing joint and the nose was hammered. Not wanting to fix the nose, I said "what the hell" and lifted off again expecting a crash, and crash it did. Win some lose some. here's some crude video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yud3rDlM_s0
ORIGINAL: papajeff
ORIGINAL: ryanronning Well After a couple of weeks of waiting for wind to die down I tried my luck. Long story short, I had added nose steering which ended up breaking due to stress. I am going to lock the front nose straight and give her a go hopefully tomorrow. Here's a vid of the break... Thanks for the compliments. I hadn't realized it would work so well... more of a gamble but that sometimes is how the best ideas come about. Should be airborne tomorrow, I will post on how it goes![:D]

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
You pretty much got the idea on the drywall anchors... just make sure you get the ones I have pictures that collapse when you tighten them. Here's what I did. 1.Picked a spot to drill the hole. (your are correct, hole is slightly bigger for ease of anchor to go through) 2.Note: be gentle. 3. One hole is drilled, insert anchor, and using the screw that came with tighten it till it's snug.. you'll know when the anchor has sandwiched it by feeling it get really tight to turn. I was going to us the nylon bolts for weight issues but opted for the screw type regular bolt that came with it. Make sure to slap a washer in there to for more support. The reason for using the bolts is because I can get a Phillips in there better than my sausage fingers! Good luck!

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
ORIGINAL: papajeff Ryan, Now that you have the new Tx, you are really going to enjoy flying the Predator. Just remember.........try to fly it "scale-like".........ROG is best when you just let it lift off on it's own when the speed is right......then add a little up elevator.........nice and easy flying with wide aileron turns with a little rudder added in. Watch the video from post #187 page 8 and you will see what I mean. Now the Depot "Green drawers" are in the Hardware section by all of the screws and bolts. Ask one of the orange apron guys for the "Nylon Thumb Screws" that you will see in the photos from post #116 page 5 which shows my suggestion for removeable wing attachment. This way, you will be able to take your Predator in the VW wih no problem! Let me know if this helps.
Thank you for the tips, and by the way great video. I will take her easy... hopefully this weekend! That is if wind permits. I ended up going to home depot and found the green hardware and then spotted something I thought I would try. Drywall anchors that you can collapse by screwing them. Basically sandwiches the wall of the wing to make a solid base for connection. I was going to use nylon, but they were a bit hard to turn in a tight space so I just used some small bolts. Works like a champ. And it's quick! Once again thanks for all the help.

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Damn I have been slow at posting. Well I do appreciate the support here. More than I got at Berg. After a couple dropped calls I went in a different path and got an airtronics vg6000. Really good price and came with a receiver.... So what did I end up with? A new transmitter that rocks... and an extra receiver. But that's good! More parts for future projects. I have pretty much come to the end of the build, except for the wingspan won't fit in the beetle. :( So I tried eye hooks with zip ties, but still need to secure the rear part of the wings. Papa Jeff, where is the "green hardware" in home depot? I have circled that place 3 times to no avail. Thanks, Ryan I am attaching a recent shot... I love this UAV!

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
PapapJeff... thanks for your reply. I guess I had just assumed it would work. Or maybe just hopeful. Anyway, I did contact Berg and they are looking into the issue, and I contacted exceed to find more specs. They are so vague with their tech specs. Anyways yes it is a cheap transmitter and I am preparing to bite the bullet and by one that is better quality. I sort of have to now. lol I am throwing some photos on here... Just some of my servos and the front wheel... I am making it steerable. also, motor mounts with aluminum. By the way thank you for posting the specs on the bolts you used... made my life easier at home depot. Thanks Again, Ryan

RE: Nitromodels PREDATOR RQ-1B
Please forgive my ignorance of electric RC. I used to be a an f-18 mech in the Navy and I am stumped on this plane! I used to watch them take off at China Lake and am fascinated. Ugh! anyways I have been lurking for about a month now slowly building.... and I hit a roadblock. I am to the point of electrical work. I got the berg 7P (same as papajeff), and I am having issues. I am trying to use a 6 channel transmitter that went with an exceed helo. The freq/channels are the same in the receiver and transmitter... but I get the solid red on the berg. I did everything on their site such as 4 ft above deck and more than a foot away to no avail. My question is that do I need a new transmitter? The Xceed is bitchin' in the sense it has alot of channels for future upgrades etc... and it is cheap but may do the job Plus I have been selling crap on ebay just to do this project as I am now a starving artist. Thanks in advance for the help. -Ryan P.S. Awesome job on all predators I have seen here.
