OK to let batteries freeze in winter storage?
Is it OK to let NiCad or NiMh receiver batteries freeze. I have stored planes in an unheated unattached garage over the winter and temps in winter can get below zero. I'm not sure if it gets that cold in the garage, but certainly below freezing. They are always at normal temp when I charge them in spring and I have done this for a few years and there doesn't seem to be any effect. Also I have always stored them fully charged. What do you guys think? What about other typs of batteries?

Jersey Modeler gas can replacement cap
Does anyone know of a replacement cap for a Jersey Modeler Essence/Scepter 2 1/2 gallon plastic gas can? I'd like to get rid of the spout set up that comes with it. It looks like it could leak. I'm thinking the cap should be vented? Thanks in advance! Roy

Wing Strut Attachment
I am working on a 1/4 scale military cub and looking for a simple way to attach the wing struts to the fuselage. The plane has two removable wings. Where the struts meet the fuselage there are two flat plates that overlap and a nut and bolt is supposed to connect the two. I have seen something that looks like a round metal pin that has a flange on one end to keep it from pulling through and a hole throught the shaft for a cotter pin on the other end. Does anyone know there they can be found? Also if someone has a better solution I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Roy

RE: Warbirds and classics over the Midwest. (Fond du Lac)
Hi Guys, We received a request for some pilot info. If anyone knows who the biplane (with the skinny pilots) in the very first picture on this thread belongs to, the plan designer or kit mfg would like to contact him. He has a very nice ariel photo of it and would like to communicate with the owner/pilot for possible magazine use. The guy to contact is JaimeJ@arizonamodels.com Thanks, Roy Fond du Lac Aeromodelers Warbirds & Classics over the Midwest

RE: Warbirds and classics over the Midwest. (Fond du Lac)
Hi guys, I just received a request from hmalavemail@gmail.com in Madrid Spain. He wants to know who owns the Grumman Tracker on page one, post four ( behind Jeff Q's 1/4 scale spit.) They want to build one and they would like to contact the owner with some questions. Any help would be appreciated. BTW there are now 22 pilots pre-registered for WCOM 2013! Roy

RE: Warbirds and classics over the Midwest. (Fond du Lac)
Wow, Registration has been open for about 5 hours and there are already 14 pilots pre-registered! Lots of our Minnesota friends. Scott- Fox 11 from Green Bay did come Friday around 11AM and did some filming and a short interview. It aired between 5-6PM on their nightly news. Emily Deem (the Foxy reporter) was scheduled to be here also but was a late scratch due to another assignment. Sam Parfitt said he had installed a heater in his airplane trailor/luxury suite in case a stay-over was required!!! He also mentioned that eating crackers was OK with him. Ha Ha! Roy

RE: Remove paint from tires?
Thanks for the advice, but it's a lot more than specks. In some places it's almost completely covered. I purchased the plane with this problem and I'd like to clean it up. I can remove the tires to work on them, but I just want to know what to do. Thanks in advance. Roy

Top Flite GS P-47 ARF gear doors
I am working on the strut gear doors for Top Flite's giant scale P-47 ARF. I need more curve in them to get them to lay down better. I am using aluminum wheels and I can't get them any deeper in the wheel wells, but by putting a little more radius in the doors, they should work. The doors appear to be made of fiberglass and are pretty solid and are already painted. Is it possible to heat them to get a better curve without ruining them or the paint? Any other ideas? Roy

Starter for 50cc and larger gas motor
What do you guys recommend for starting 50CC and larger gas motors. I have a DLE55 in a P47. Any recommendations either factory or home made would be appreciated. I'd prefer something with a self contained battery. 24 volt? Thanks, Roy

RE: WWII Jeep RC Conversion? - of interest to tankers
Just bought a 1/6th scale Hasbro (newer model) GI Joe jeep off e-bay. I'm intending to convert it to RC so I can drive it around in the pits at Warbirds rc fly in events and other places. I'm not intending to do any serious rock crawling but I would like it to have a suspension and the over all look to be reasonably scale. Can I modify some existing chassis or would i have to do it from scratch. Any info would be appreciated. If any of you guys has something that would work for sale I might also be interested. I know alot about RC airplanes but next to nothing about ground vehicles. Thanks in advance. Roy

Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest 2012
Well boys, it's that time again. Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest 2012 is just five short months away! August 16th, 17th, and 18th, with an open, fixed wing fly in on the 19th. Last year was AWESOME, and with 51 pilots from across the USA and Canada already pre-registered, 2012 looks to be the best event yet. Last year WCOM featured over 125 pilots, 3000+ spectators, fantastic weather, and the best 4 days of the summer! Thanks to all the guys who made last year's event one of the "Best in the Midwest", and we look forward to seeing all our friends again this August. For those of you who haven't attended in the past, I'll let the pilots from previous years tell you what you're missing. For more information and how to pre-register, go to www.midwestwarbirds.com Much more info to follow. Can't wait! Roy

RE: Eneloop batteries for giant scale P-47
Thanks for the help. I am using a 2.4 system. If possible I'd like to stay with a Ni cad type set up. I don't have experiance with A123s or lipos other than small electrics. Would they require voltage regulators? I like to try to keep things simple. Any help would be appreciated. Roy

Eneloop batteries for giant scale P-47
Anybody using Sanyo Eneloop 2000Mah NiMh batteries for warbirds. I'm thinking of using them in a Top Flite giant scale P-47. A 6 volt pack for receiver and another for ignition. I'm running 12 servos, 9 of which are digital. Do you guys think that 2000 mah is enough? I check my battery packs regularly. Roy

Prop drilling and compression position?
I have a DLE55 and plan to mount a Xoar 22x10 prop in my new GS Top Flite P-47. Should I drill the four extra mounting holes in the prop? I have the jig and a predrilled tru turn backplate. If so, people have told me that I should have the prop in a certain position for hand proping. Something like the blades at about 2 o-clock and 8 o-clock? But where should the engine compression cycle be? Thanks in advance! Roy

RE: P47 versus P40 wheelbase
I realize that the P40 has a narrower gear. I'm just trying to figure out what the dimension difference is. I prefer the P40 and I know how to use the rudder and cross controll. Just trying to get an idea of the difference. Thanks. Roy

P47 versus P40 wheelbase
I'm considering either Top Flite's giant scale P47 arf or their new giant scale P40 arf. I like the P40 better but I'm concerned about the narrower wheelbase. Does anyone know the wheelbase (wheel center to center where the they touch the ground) of either of these models? Thanks in advance. Roy
