RE: Strato 210 info/help?
Ron & Mike, I really appreciate the info on the "Bullets" and kind words about my dad. After years of procrastinating by always having something else 'more important' on my board I am dedicating this winter to building a Bullet of my own for VRCS events next year. I'll post some photos (in the Vintage RC forum) when I have sub assemblies framed up. Scott

RE: Horizon Hobbies Customer Service policies
ORIGINAL: Lifer All I wanted was the dimensions of the firewall on the 60 sized P-47; widest and longest points. Nothing more.
I just happen to have one on my workbench. Firewall dimensions are 8.5" length x 6.875" width. There are holes (but not blind nuts) in the firewall to mount the engine angled down...would be perfect for a 4 stroke but I'm using an OS 75AX & will do some mods to mount it inverted & use an in-cowl muffler. I've had nothing but great service from Horizon (and their predecessors) and have flown JR radios for over 25 years.

RE: Strato 210 info/help?
my dad's (Hale Wallace) "Bristol Bullet" which was originally published in M.A.N....The Strato 210 was kitted by Strato Model Products of Blakely, Pa. in the early 70's... in the late 60's and one of MANs best selling plans for years. I do recall my dad saying the kit... the "Vega" was from a different outfit. Scott Wallace

RE: Lanzo Bomber ? ? ? ? ? ?
For SAM RC competition they really are that good, if you're not looking to compete in SAM events there are dozens of better looking designs from the 30's and 40's... Kustom Kits for short kits, the Bomber has been scaled from .049 size through 96" since it's... output electric system you have (or intend to use) there's a Bomber available

RE: MK MATTLAS 40
I had two in the mid-late 80's, first one had an Enya 45CX and a later one had a YS 45 w/pipe; both flew great. I didn't bother with retracts in either of them, I had 60 size pattern planes for that and the Mattlas' were just for fun. I recall buying the first kit in around '84 and I'm sure I had seen them advertised for some years earlier. MK also kitted a 20 sized

Sad News, Pete Reed
he passed away while at a pratice sessions with some of his racers. Back in the 60's & 70's Pete was a good friend of my dad (Hale Wallace) & we enjoyed competing with him in scale & racing meets all over the northeast. RIP Pete Scott Wallace

RE: Skyhawk models
The offered a trainer and low wing sport model (both 40 size) before the pattern plane. Decent painted finishes, but heavy models...flew OK, think I saw one or two of each being flown. One guy got one of the pattern models as soon as they were released but it had horrendous paint issues & it was returned to the distributor. Maybe I'm thinking of a different company, I think the one I recall was Starhawk.

RE: Super Kaos help
Bridi designs typically have a rectangular piece of 1/16" ply that is glued to the rear center section on the bottom of the wing (prior to covering but I glassed the center section first). It does two things, one is to provide a hard surface so as not to crush the balsa when tightening the wing bolts, and the second is to bridge the slight gap between trailing edge of the wing and the fuselage although that gap seems larger than normal. I've built many Bridi low wing models over the past 25 years and I recall they all had something similar...

RE: Which to get: AeroWorks 60
I have their Edge with a 61FX, it's wonderful all around flyer and has held up well for several years now. I do not think your 75AX would be too much engine for it all, in fact had it been available that's what I would have gone with for mine. Takeoffs and landings are beautiful with no bad habits, it's not a '3D' machine but that wasn't what I was looking

RE: The OS 25AX is here
I did end buying an FX yesterday & will convert my oldest Seeker for Q-25, I want to get some time on the engine and can't wait and see if the AX will be approved. Besides, the $40 price difference did factor into it when I considered I'll need the engine for 1 race only and it may not get used much in the future.

RE: The OS 25AX is here
Don, did you get a chance to run this yet? Is there any talk of allowing this engine in Q25 in the Carolina's? I'm planning to come down to fly 424 for the Oct race at Julian & figured as long as I'm driving that far may as well fly Q25 also. We don't fly that class in NY, I don't mind buying an OS 25 but if I had a choice I would prefer the AX for the carb setup

RE: Sal Taibi 84
Very nice work indeed, I'm sure she'll fly great. The Powerhouse has long been my favorite "old timer". The model's designer Sal Taibi was a member of the Brooklyn Skyscrapers club back in 1938 when he designed that model (as a 17 year old) so if you're flying in the NYC area the design has come home :) Last I knew Sal was still flying FF models and is a wonderful

RE: Bridi Warlord 40
My 2 cents on retracts for a Warlord would be not to bother. It's a simple airframe, boxy and "draggy" which gives it some nice qualities as a sport model/basic pattern trainer. Save the retracts for some sleek & sexy 60 size airplane down the road[8D] Post some photos when you're done!

RE: New Viper 500 RTC
I've moved beyond Viper's but I still get involved helping new guys with theirs. The covering so bad on every one I've seen it takes darn near as long to re-iron the entire model as it would to cover an arc in the first place. The two I owned were absolutely dreadful and took many hours to re-work the covering.

RE: Bridi Warlord 40
I have built 3 over the past 30 years, and absolutely great flying, honest airplane. Probably the best low wing trainer ever, but it wasn't heavily mass marketed and I never saw anyone else with them. Way back in the late 80's I flew one in several Novice pattern events and won against... Bridi kits have decent wood...and it's not really a collectable that would fetch big bucks

Dang Bob, ouch on your Buckshot. Often one's best looking models are short lived while... there with a brace of neon green Seeker's. I'll even buy a couple 25FX's so I can race 2 classes; our local club runs a quickie class with 40FP's or LA's as the engine... neither of the other two are available new anymore. Scott Wallace

RE: Hairspray
I do a lot more work with glass cloth & paint than film coverings but the metallics do seem to act differently when I've tried them. I've not heard of using hairspray before using iron on covering. Anyway, hope the model turns out well, post some photos when its done; Banshee is neat airplane. The only modeling use I recall for hairspray is to spray balsa sheeting used for sheeting a foam wing with hairspray prior to applying expoxy for skinning the wing. The theory was the hairspray prevented excess epoxy from soaking into the wood so less would be used, and create a lighter wing panel. This was from the days of 800 sq in pattern models with 10cc 2 strokes where every gram saved (in theory) counted.
