RE: Motor causing Rx interference?
I could always try to find a second hand Tx/Rx from traxxas or something like that as well.

Just a few thoughts...
I got the Tx/Rx used, so I'm not sure if its been in a crash. It comes very close to the motor, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's interfering with it. I have to wait for some parts to come in before I can run it again, but I'll try re-routing the antenna. If that doesn't work, hobby king does have that 20$ 2.4 system

I have the FM version of the pro. It has the removable module, so I could switch to 2.4 if i can find one. I don't really have any other FM Rx's to use at the moment, so I'm going to have to buy one to see if it works out. I tried looking for the 2.4 module, but all I'm finding it their 6+ channel ones for their plane controllers. I'm going to try a different antenna placement. If that doesn't work, I think I'll try a different Rx.

Motor causing Rx interference?
So i've been having issues with my RC going out of range easily. I'm running a Hitec Agressor SRX pro on my brushless tamiya DF-03 buggy. If i get more than 30 - 40 feet away, I experience throttle blipping and sometimes momentary cut-outs where I have no control. My receiver seems to be working fine, the antenna is wired up right (it does pass close to the motor, which may cause some interference?). I'm not sure if it's my radio system, or just the set up. My friend has a traxxas rustler with the stock AM tx/rx setup, no problems what so ever. I even switched my brushless setup over to it one day to see how fast it went. In between the 60mph wheelies, I noticed his car didn't get any interference at all, despite running my same motor/esc/batt setup, and we would get it as far as 200 feet away. The only difference is that his has the antenna wired up to the front of the car, away from the motor, where mine passes within an inch of the motor where it wires through the antenna tube. Could my motor be causing the interference?

Battery no good anymore?
Bought a 4000 mah 2s lightmax 30C hardcase lipo from HK for my Dark Impact. I've been using it with a SuperSimple ESC for the time being (I ordered, and now have a 100amp Car specific ESC), only 3 runs or so on the SS and none on the new esc. It charged fine and ran fine. Well a few days ago i hooked the battery up to the SS ESC and it sparked pretty bad when i connected the positive plug. I had only done it to test out the U-BEC. It was a pretty bad spark, even left a burn mark on the plug. This was just after giving the pack a full charge. Well I had been busy for the last few days so I didnt mess with RC stuff for a while. I finally got my new ESC in and soldered all the plugs to it, but when i hook the battery to it, i don't get any power, not even a little spark when i plug it in, like it usually does. I tried charging it, but it tells me theres a "connection break". The settings were all as they had been before when I charged it and the connection was good. Is it possible that I could have shorted the battery out when it sparked really bad that one time? The battery only has 3 runs on it. I cant tell if its bloated since its a hardcase. What could be wrong?

RE: Dark Impact is in, now i need batt packs
I ended up buying the 4000mah 30C 2s1p hardcase flightmax pack and that little hextronic UBEC. The ESC from my boat is pretty big, but i have just enough room to mount everything in there. Getting the wiring under control is going to be a b!tch though. Origionally the ESC and Rx were on one side, with the servo on the other. With my ESC, it takes up so much space, I can just barely get the body on with it in there. The Rx will be mounted over by the servo (on its side, as it wont fit inside the tub when mounted flat), and the UBEC will have to squeeze in next to the esc. It's going to be a bit of a complicated setup, but until i can buy a nice little car ESC, this will have to do. Luckily, no modification will have to be done, except for cutting a small bit off of the back of the body, so the wires from the motor can fit through. Oh, and here's the pics i promised. (I took the spur gear cover off to remove the pinion gear, and to see if it had a slipper clutch or not)

So hmmmm....my ESC doesn't have a BEC.....this is a bit of a problem....would this be the right thing to use? http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3735 Will this drain any more power from my battery than would an ESC with built in BEC? I could also save up a bit and buy this ESC, The Feigao motor chart says the 8S will pull about a max of 81amp, but would i be ok with a 60amp ESC? http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7188&Product_Name=Turnigy__Brushless_ESC_60A_w/_Reverse_prog._(v2.2)

Well, here another thing....Im not entirely sure if i should go 2S or 3S....i have a 4436kv motor, i know the gearing between the pinion and spur gears is about 3 to 1, but I'm not too sure about the diffs, and if they're geared or not. I guess I can go 2S for now, but what speed should I be looking at?

Dark Impact is in, now i need batt packs
Well the Tamiya Dark Impact I got on ebay just got in today. Everything looks good so far, but I still have 2 problems. I need to buy a batt cover (the seller had lost his) and I need to get a batt pack for it. I was considering modifying it a bit to fix two of my little 2S packs in parallel in it, but with the amount of money I saved buying this thing used over paying an extra 50$ for it new, I figured I could buy the right lipo for it as well. I'm sure this question is asked many times over in this forum, but I seem to be having bad luck finding info about batt packs to use, and the DI thread has over 100 pages to sort through looking for such info...something I'm not about to do. I'm looking for a 2s2p lipo that will fit in the space meant for a 6 cell nimh pack. I've been out of RC for a while now and am not too sure which brands are the best to look at. What would be some good reccomendations for a 2S2P lipo for around 40-60$? I would be running a Feigao 8S (4436kv) through a supersimple 100amp esc. As an incentive, I promice to post pics and hopefully some video of it running if I can get some help with this [:D]

RE: Bikes...?
Well you did say bicycles soooo... It's an 07' Jamis Dakar XLT, nice little bike I built up with Downhill and Freeride components so it's a bit on the heavy side, but the only way it will break is if I crash it hard enough that I break too. I'm a big guy anyway, so the weight doesen't get to me much....this is an older picture, and since then i've bought a new seat and now ride with clipless pedals....really helps on the uphills, but just gotta get used to clipping out fast if your gunna crash. I also used to have a little motorbike I built up from a schwinn stingray. Used this chinese 80cc 2-stroke motor kit and modded it a bit to fit the schwinn. did about 30mph on the top end. Ended up selling it though. I also have a late 70's Yamaha Enduro 125cc trailbike up in michigan on my grandparents farm. It was a little fixer-upper my grandpa worked on for me when i was smaller. no pics of it though.

RE: I got everything but a chassis, and need some rec's on gearing
Alright, stopped being lazy, did some math (i.e. I found the sticky about gearing) and found that I should run about 30mph with my motor and the gearing the Dark Impact has.....now the only problem is I found that the DI's only meant to fit one battery, which gives me the room of a single 6cell nimh pack to fit two 2S lipos in. Luckily the Lipo's are pretty small, and if stacked on their side, next to eachother, they are just about as wide, and nowhere near as long as a 6cell nimh. However, their about 1/2 an inch too tall. I could always modify chassis a bit by find a way to move the batt cover up a 1/2", or if the mounts can't be moved up, modding the cover itself so the packs can fit. Also, I read a little about how the DF-02 is a little stronger and would be a better basher than the DF-03.....is this true? What are some of the advantages and disadvantages between the two? the DF-02 is 30$ cheaper than the DF-03 so I wouldnt mind switching over to that....its just the looks of the DF-03 are a lot better....its a bit hard to choose. Theirs also the Ofna 1/8th buggy, but im a bit worried about the motor being underpowered for that size car. From what I can tell, most people are running L or XL size can's, while im running an S. the only thing is the ofna would have room for the extra batt without any modification.

RE: OFFICIAL OFNA ULTRA LX1e 1/8th SCALE ELECTRIC BUGGY THREAD
Im looking at a buggy kit that would work well with some running hardware from a boat I used to use. Got a Feigao 540 8S (4436kv) motor running on 2S2P lipos (two polyRC 20C 2200mah packs on parallel) and controlled by a 100amp SuperSimple ESC. I was innitially going for a Dark Impact, but it only has room for a single batt. I was wondering if I could run this setup on the ofna. (I see it reccomends running a 4s setupt, so im hoping it has room for two 2S's?) I wouldnt want anything too fast, just something to bash around in, 30-40mph top speed, and would like it to run as cool as i can without sacrificing too much performance. Would this buggy bo good for that?

I got everything but a chassis, and need some rec's on gearing
So I haven't dont anything RC for what must be a year by now, and almost all of it was boats. Well my last boat was damaged when the prop shaft sheered off and due to lack of funds and just a lack of luck as far as the setup, I scrapped the project. I met up with another kid today who was into RC cars and he reccommend I buy a little brushed rustler as a basher. But then I remembered all my RC stuff from the boat. Here's what I have left over, and it's all practically brand new only used for a few runs: Feigao 540 8S (4436kv if i remember right) SuperSimple 90/100 amp esc (has braking so it's good for a car) 3 20C 2200mAh polyRC lipo packs (esc is wired up to run two of them parallel so i have better run time and can handle more current) A Hitec FM pistol and rex Turnigy lipo charger and a power source Pretty much everything I'll need for a rolling chassis, only problem is im not sure what to use for that chassis. At first I was limited to just a cheap brushed 2wd truck, but since i have all of the running hardware, I can focus the funds on the chassis. I was never really into cars but I'm guessing I would need something in the 1/10 scale range. A nice 4wd buggy or truck or something like that would be nice. Something for light bashing and for fun, not really into racing. I'll check around here for what people are running, but what would be some good reccommendations as far as a rolling chassis? I'm also not too keen as far as gearing goes. Boats just use direct drive, so it's a lot simpler. But I'm not too sure what i should run for a spur gear on the car. Ill be running a 4436kv motor on 7.4V, so that puts me at around 32,000rpms at the shaft, but realistically probably more around 30,000 or so. What tooth count should the spur gear be? and the gear on the motor? Not looking for crazy speed, maybe around 30mph...would like to keep the setup cool, so nothing that would push the motor too hard. Hope that what I have would be good for running in a car, thanks for the reccommendations [:D] EDIT: Tamiya Dark Impact...looks like a good kit to use with my setup. Im checking out the threat now to look at setups and how good it is, durability wise.....any rec's for gearing however?

Sonic 44 mono
So i aquired this Speed World Sonic 44" gasser mono hull recently. Ive never built a gasser before, but i do have some experience with electric boats, so its not completely foreign to me. I probably wont get to this build for little considering i still have to finish an electric boat before this, but for when i can get started on this, im wondering..... Where could i buy a decent marine gas motor? (just somthing to get it around 30-40mph...and nothing too expensive either...just a stock zen or something like that) Where could i get some good hardware (i remember top secret made some good stuff, but where else could i find some?) and also: What sites have the smaller tid-bits and other stuff ill need? (gas tank, coupler, motor mount, pipe, etc) here are some pics too [image]http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/DSC00097-2.jpg[/image] Oval Master 21" hull for size comparison [image]http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/DSC00099-2.jpg[/image] [image]http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/DSC00102-1.jpg[/image] [image]http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/DSC00104-1.jpg[/image] The hatch already has an intake vent and an opening for the pipe, although the transom and stringers havent been drilled yet, so the hull is brand new still.....

RE: Atlas conversion
hmmm 36" long, plywood nitro kit (its probably a heavy build (guessing) since its meant for a nitro)....your going to need a bit of power to get it going along well...... whats your budget? honestly i think you would be better off buying a newer (and lighter) fiberglass hull...because if a .40 could just get it on plane, your going to need to buy a pretty big motor to get it running... But...if you still want to use this hull...well...ive never build a hydro before, so i cant tell you exactly what you would need to power it, (hopefully someone who has a better idea than me can chime in), but id say a good guess would be a Feigao 580L size motor....you can generally find cheap ESC's and other electronics as www.hobbyking.com, although the quality may lack in comparison to more expensive ESC's, i feel safer risking a 30-50$ esc on an experimental build than 200+$ on a nice CC Hydra or an Etti or whatnot... also if your planning to run Lipo (i suggest you do), your probably going to have either a 4s or 6s setup if you do go with the 580L motors.. link to 580's (bottom of page)...you can also find a lot of other stuff youll need for this boat (plugs, wires, pretty much all the essential building components) http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=116 Now this is essentially a good guess for what you would need to run this boat, going on what size hulls the motor can take and all the other electronics to power it....i would wait until someone more experienced can either come in and comfirm what ive said, or give you a more proper setup for your hydro before you buy anything

The boat is about (what i think to be) 75% done....i have all the reinforcement in, the motor has been mounted, the flex shaft is in place(havent been epoxied in yet), strut and rudder have been mounted, and the water pickup has been mounted.....I have the ESC in now (HobbyKing 100amp w/ 120amp burst), as well as the charger (turnigey accucell 6) and power supply...batteries have been ordered today actually....two 2S 2200mAh Poly RC 20C packs....im going to parallel them to handle the amp draw of the motor.... The only things left for me to do is are: :Solder all the connections :make radio box (out of thin ply and plexiglass most likely) :Mount servo and connect it to rudder :epoxy the stuffing tube in place :Mount batts :buy batt pack for Tx :CA hull together and that should be it here are some pics of the hull in its current condition http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/IMGP3589.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/IMGP3590.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/IMGP3591.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k87/saleens7_01/IMGP3592.jpg
