RE: Upgrade to SSD now!
hi Foxy, that's nice! the only thing that prevented me from buying SSD is the price, I think it has gone down to an acceptable level that mass majority will be considering to upgrade. People are so into picking the fastest processor, more cores and things like that and they overlook other components like the hard drive and graphics card. Anyways, I'm glad with this upgrade.

Upgrade to SSD now!
Don't bother with the regular hard drives anymore. Use them for storing larger files. I installed a Samsung SSD drive onto my laptop yesterday and this thing flies now. From button press to desktop takes about 16 seconds. Programs start almost instantly. Best upgrade you can do to upgrade your slow PC. Regular hard drives have always been the bottleneck.

new to tank...
I have been in RC for sometimes, mostly with cars/trucks. I want to buy a Tank, but I dont' really know much about them. Not look to spend a lot of $$ on it. Maybe $150 max? I know Heng Long and Tamiya make tanks, but are there any other brands that I should be aware of. Being in the RC, I know some brands are just knockoffs and cheap, so I just want to make sure that I don't buy those. Better yet, if anyone can recommend a model, that'd be great!

How to fully discharge Lipo
So I have two bad packs that I would like to throw away. I have been discharging them with a 12V headlight and I got the voltage to 0.1V. But then after I unplugged 12V bulb, the voltage on the battery starts to increase slowly again. I did plug in the 12V overnight and still does the same.

Waterproof 540 Mini Summit Flips too much!
Already changed the springs to purple(stiffest) but it is still too soft. I think I need to use the Mini Revo push rods to lower it. It is currently waterproofed(DIY). TOO MUCH TORQUE, huge difference in power compare to the stock system although the stock system isn't slow at all. The difference is like I4 Turbo vs V8 Turbo. Under hard acceleration, I feel like the drive shafts are going to snap in half. [image]http://i417.photobucket.com/albums/pp251/samguan/IMG_0220.jpg[/image]

what is the point? The stock big bores are very good you don't need four. They put it in the Savage so they can eliminate the 8-shock setup.

Tell me there is another way! Garage Door Lost Power!
It happened to me last year and now my friend has the same problem. The power plug from the garage door opener came loose from the wall outlet and my garage had no windows or second door to get access to that emergency latch. I had to cut into the wall and remove the dry wall and them climb in and plug in the power plug. My friend is having a similar situation, is there any other way?

If you want the stampede 4x4, the best lipo would be a 5000mah 30c or above.

Why don't you just wire the NiMh(Series) or Lipo(Parrallel) and just get one of those multifunctional chargers and charge multiple batteries at the same time.

Do you ship to Canada?
Lately I've been shopping for used RC items across multiple forums and most of the sellers do not ship to Canada and most reject even if I explain and offer a little more shipping. I mean, it's a direct neighbor, first world country with decent postal system. Shipping into Canada from the US isn't expensive and PayPal fully supports Canada if there is a problem. When I sell my stuff, I always include the US and in fact it's even cheaper to ship to US from Canada than within Canada itself. However, I do not ship to other countries other than the US. Priority Mail does provide full tracking from US to Canada.

RE: RC for Kids
you don't even have to take the motor off the truck, just spray into the motor vent and then lubricate the bearing/bushing facing outside. 30 Second job.

RE: RC for Kids
Very good choice on the charger in the case that you want to go Lipo and brushless in the future. The way I lube my motor is go to Canadian Tire and buy a brake cleaner(Non-Chlorinated) one and then clean the bearings/bushings and then spray into the vent opening of the Titan motor. Then using a little bit of bearing oil(cheap at the hobby shop) and then lubricate the bearings/bushings again.

[quote]ORIGINAL: jbrunt Would simply using the training mode when bashing in the yard have the same effect as changing the pinion gear? That would make it easier to switch back and forth. I'm not sure how hard it is to change but I would expect it would take at least 20 minutes to change, rather than the 1 minute to switch from training mode to sport mode on the esc. [/quote] It takes less than 5 minutes to change, Stampede is especially really easy to work on. You can get your hobby shop to do it for free, a pinion gear should cost less than $5. But it's good to learn though. I think putting it in training mode would work too.

RE: RC for Kids
Two types of motor you are looking at here. Brushed and Brushless motor. The 1/16th E-Revo/Summit come in both the Brushed and the brushless version. Brushless will be way faster, efficient and the motor will really long proper care. However, I don't think the brushed motor on the Stampede is that bad, although I've heard some people have bad luck with them. Mine lasted a year and still was running fine. Once you go brushless, you would want LiPo to take full advantage and then you need a charger, a power supply which will make the cost go way up. So I don't think you ready for that yet. I wouldn't worry about going through motors, you should be fine with that stock motor. Clean it and Lube it properly and it should last a while.

RE: RC for Kids
I am not sure about Rustler but I would think Stampede would be better on grass due to higher clearance and bigger tires. But in terms handling, Rustler is way better and it does not flip easily. (From a kid's perspective, this is a good thing). I would recommend a Traxxas Stampede since it's waterproof, higher clearance. As far as the motor/esc is concerned, just buy a smaller pinion gear to keep the load down and everything is all good from there. as for 1/16th scale, they are not very good on grass and they are not much cheaper sometimes even more expensive. 1/16 Revo 4WD brushed cost more than a 1/10 Stampede 2WD.

what I find with these big RC companies is that you have to talk to them nicely and explain things to them. They will help you out most of the time.

From Savage X to XL now to Flux Conversion
Initially started as a Savage X couple years back, then converted to XL and now to a Savage Flux. How much did it cost? Very rough estimate. I also replaced all the plastic parts like the Bulkheads, shock towers, arms and stuff because the old ones were so dirty I didn't even bother washing them. But these plastic parts are so cheap on eBay. Basically now the truck is like brand new. -TVP $15 -Motor Plate $15 -Battery Box $25 -Big Bore Shocks $35 -Flux Tranny $35 -Motor Mount $35 [link]http://www.rc-monster.com/prodimages/fluxmount%20004.jpg[/link] As for the drive train, replace when broken. Is it worth it? Not really if you can get the whole conversion kit by HPI at a decent price which includes everything. Basically, I buy one piece every two weeks(pay day). Parts are dirt cheap on eBay. Planning on putting in a Turnigy $149.99 1/8th system just to mess around with. The other Flux in the picture is a original Flux with the Mamba system. Canada Goose Jacket Overrated!
I don't know how many of you have one of these, but I did go out and spent $600 last year and bought the one below. I wanted it because it was trendy but at the same time people tend to give me impressions that these jackets are super warm. After a winter here in Canada, I can conclude that this is overrated. I still feel cold with this jacket on unless I put on an extra sweater or so. But it is Made in Canada, maybe that's why it is $600. My $150 made in china jacket beats this. I'm serious. RE: Cheap source for Spektrum receivers
I don't think you can find one, HobbyKing doesn't make it for surface radio. You could sell the radio and buy the HobbyKing model or buy used receivers. Either way works. If you are just playing around, I would go the HobbyKing route. I have the HobbyKing model and the Futaba 3PM 2.4Ghz model. Both are good!

If you have a Spektrum radio, you defeat the purpose when you buy the clone receivers. If you want to go cheap, then change the whole radio system: http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/%5F%5F12181%5F%5FHK%5F310%5F3%5FChannel%5F2%5F4ghz%5FFHSS%5FGround%5FRadio.html I have used the one above and it is solid on all of my cars, range test was perfect!
