RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Post no. 5646 of 8/10/12? 2ndly Bill if you have a radio that can take a FRsky module- try that. I use it on my Futaba 9 & 10 C. Works like a charm and most inexpensive way to 2.4 . Tx module with 8 channel Rx costs about usd 60. LiFe batts come down to 3.3V/ cell within few min. Or seconds and remain at that for 80%+ of their life. You can check it. So a 2S life is actually a 6.6V output not 7.2 going to 6.6. 1 diode is fairly sufficient. My double switch with fuel filler, 2100 2s Life batt, optokill with LED and the diode cost less than USD 50 landed.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Bill I never said That I do not use an optokill - I said I use an RcEXL one. I use Life batts. That have 2 Futaba /JR type plugs. 1 goes to the Rx switch and the other to the CDi switch. The out wire of th CDi switch has the diode. The diode wire of the switch then goes into the optokill and then onwards to the CDi. Hence the battery is isolated from the CDi and so is the Rx. 2.4 Ghz systems are inherently less prone to interference. I use the 1 battery system for only upto 20cc engines/ models. Beyond 20cc or models with digital servos, should be run with 2 batts. May be even redundant/ 2nd battery for the Rx.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
A dedicated battery is not necessary at all. I run my smaller gassers - dle20 - with just 1 batt feeding the Rx n CDi. What I like to do is to have 2 swithes....1 fr Rx n other fr CDi. In the wire fom the switch to the CDi I attach the diode. And yes this works for Life only. for LiPo you will need more diodes, in which case an Ibec may be better. But I will highly reccomend Lfe for CDi as they give a constant voltage over 80% of their life.

RE: NEW DLE 20cc Gasser! (Data & Links 1st Post)
Mach2, I do not have a picture of the diode soldered in series to the wire going to the CDi. But it is simple what I do. I use a twin switch - 1 for Rx and the other for CDi. The switch wire going to the Cdi is spliced and a diode added in series. I cover the diode and the soldered joints by heat shrink. I use Life batts. i.e 6.6V and so the reduction of 0.9V is enough to make the Cdi happy at 5.7V. For the optokill I use the RcEXL optokill costing usd 10 landed. For more details you may search this thread for "1N4007" and you will get more details. The whole thing is very simple and less prone to trouble. I am using this in 8 of my gassers.

RE: VELOX.. Build thread with Photo's..
Dear Mike, I have the Velox G1 with a kingtech K80e. Been with me a while but getting ready to maiden with me only now. I am worried about the cobra" as it is my 1st jet. However I have programmed the crow or butterfly - with flaps down and ail's up. I have 2 flap settings on a 3 way switch and a butterfly on a separate switch. Can you please advise: - what is the amount of flap for take off. - what is the amount of flap for landing. - what is the amount of ail and flap in butterfly. Any elevator added ? Up or down? - does the cobra occur when coming in too fast to land or too slow ? Are you coming for the jetpower later this year ? I would like to pick up Oleos as suggested by you. Also wondering if I should get a G2, learn on that and then go back to the G1 ??? The G1 was any way a pre-owned one. Regards Sandy Jain

RE: Blackhorse PC9 120 .
ORIGINAL: mrvbowman Hi Sandy Apologies for the delay in replying , how did the first flight go ? The c of g as per the manual mid limit was pretty good. For take off with the stock gear you will need fairly high speed and on rotation be careful as it takes some elevator to unstick , be ready to neutralise the elevator input. I put a 1/4'' packer under the nlg to effectively increase the wing incidence on take off that improved matters considerably . The nose gear is a pretty weak affair and has caused a lot of grief but i have persevered with it . The flying and landing characteristics are superb and it does look very pretty in the air
Thanx for the reply Bowman. I still have not been able to fly as we in Delhi are going thru our worst (hottest) summer in 10 years with 45*C + temps and very high winds. I do not want to take chances with a new model and it is just too hot despite the high motivation to reach the flying field. I have had to add 200gm weight at the tail to balance at the 70mm CG mark. This is explained by the 200gm heavier engine - DLE20 - that I have mounted. I just hope that the N/G is able to take the higher load up front. It does seem very rickety at best. Do you recall how much flaps do you use for take off and landing ? With the higher power on hand I may not need any but just to shorten the runway run...

RE: Blackhorse PC9 120 .
Dear Martin, It is now almost a year since your reply below - BUT i could get to build the model only now !! It is ready and waiting for the maiden this Sunday. My Kit seems to be more error free than yours. My comments against your post below. What is the CG point - as per manual it is 70mm from the leading edge. I have mounted a DLE20 and my model is way to nose heavy. I would like to hear from you before I start adding weights - may be about 50 gms. right at the tail.... Thanx for your help Martin.... Would love to see some pics of your mode and any tips on flying behaviour.... Cheers.. Sandyl
ORIGINAL: mrvbowman Sandy I have just maidened the smaller version of the PC-9 and it flies well, I have an OS 65 AX installed which is ample power for the Uk climate. Regarding the build this was somewhat more problematic and the problems i found are as follows 1. Servo mounts on one aileron hatch fitted wrong way round. Mine were OK. 2. Fuel tank did not fit through formers , formers needed relieving by some ¼ to enable tank to fit up to front bulkhead. I fitted as is with the fuel tank rear flush with the rear former. 3. Oleos & retract valve contaminated with swarf. I changed the valve to a HK one. 4. Rudder pushrod cover not large enough to cover pre cut opening in the fuselage & was sprayed red ( fuselage is white ) Cover not put yet. 5. Wing attachment bolts very loose fit in captive nuts. Wing bolts tight 6. Nose landing gear steering bracket ( black plastic bracket that clevis attaches to ) failed after 4 operations and is clearly manufactured from an unsuitable material. Dunno yet but seems rather weak. 7. Incorrect spelling on decal sheet “aircraf instead of aircraft. haven't seen yet !! 8. Pre opened hole for elevator horn on wrong side of elevator ( starboard instead of port) They have 2 holes now ??? 9. Hole for one flap horn drilled at angle leading to misalignment of the flap pushrod to servo. OK in mine 10. Retract formers not square to each other in wing leading to binding of retract due to twisting. Seem OK so far 11. Wheel well liner loose in wing, and insufficient clearance between liner & wheels when retracted forcing the liner further out of position. OK in mine On a more positive note the covering was good and it does look an attractive machine when completed good luck with your build Martin
anything more than 68" WS and 5 Kg in wt. will not 3D with a DLE20. This baby is above the threshold on both accounts and so a 30 it has to be.... See page no. 1 of the DLE20 thread. I will recommend a DLE30 with an 18x8 or 18x10 for it.
ORIGINAL: wjcalhoun Mike and ahicks Thanks for the thoughts 1. All my gassers have NGK CM6 plugs - after all the advice on many threads here, I have never run one without a CM6. 2. I have not soldered the hole in the choke because when new, this engine / carb started very easily 3. LS is 1.25 and HS 1t 1.5 after the carb rebuild. BTW, i did check the needles (no scars or rings) and both looked brand new The throttle and choke butterflys are both solid. I CAREFULLY staked each screw with a bit of blue locktite I might try the gasket compound. Thanks
Change the plug and see. Had a very similar problem in a DLE20 on our field recently. Tried everything that you have and then most grudgingly changed the plug on a suggestion. There was no logic to it....and voila.....the engine became it's original self. Tis engine had also sat on the shelf for a couple of weeks....
