RE: Top Flite Staggerwing
Ah! I guess I'll just keep her for now. I didn't get much interest on RCU Classifieds. That's fine, she's a good ship. I was just looking for another Warbird to ad to my collection. I was wanting a ESM JU84 Stuka. Maybe later. Jim

RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
The problem with H9 is that they try to offer to many types of airplanes all at once, And they just flood the market hoping on a quick sell from you. They really don't care about you and your airplane with no spare parts. There just hoping that you'll purchase a different plane from them and keep on going. At least, that's the feeling I get from them. Look at SIG, and Carl Goldberg and other model airplane companys. If you need a canopy, or a cowl you can still get parts even though the airplane is 20 years old. They want you to love your airplane and keep it flying. Not Hanger 9!!! They want you to take it out back in your back yard and burn it since there are no more spare parts to be found anywhere. I have heard it said from someone at H9 that they have a limited space for spare parts, and some things have to go. yeah but who desides that ? It's not us the buying public. Just my 2 cents worth. Hey Guys I just finished working my flap system. I'm using Hitec HS-5485 Digital servos programed to operate at their slowest setting mounted in the wing. The end result came out pretty good. Now moving on to the Ailerons and retracts. Also my XYZ 26cc gas engine arrived and looks good. Jim

RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
Hey On another note, Here is another solution for the replacing of the rubber O rings used on the landing gear. My buddy had two O rings break the other day and he was pissed. I told him to use some of his wife’s Pony tail elastic bands that she has. They are strong and should hold up well. I believe they come in different sizes and colors. But there cheap and easy to get. While I was talking to him on the phone I looked up at mine from under the plane and noticed that one of my O rings was busted as well WTF..... So yeah! just borrow a couple from your wife. She'll never miss them :). To apply you may have to double them a couple of times to get the right tension. Here are a couple of photos of the Pony tail bands. One photo shows the Pony tail band next to the H9 O ring as a size reference. Regards, Jim

RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
Hey Rowdyjoe Well to in my case, I noticed the engine overheating when I first was running the plane on the ground, testing the engine that I had just bought from a seller on RCU. It fact it was smoking. I thought that the smoke had to be coming from the oil that the engine had covered the engine from packing. I think maybe it was, because I then cleaned the engine to remove any oil that might be still on the engine case.].Since then I haven't really noticed any more smoke coming from the engine area, nore does my spinner feel hot to the touch after a flight. I'm running Omega 15% fuel in mine. But others suggusted that I should run Cool Power 15% that it's better on the bearings. I do not have any baffels installed inside my engine cowl. However my buddy who has the same plane and engine, Said that his engine was running very hot, and it was smoking after a flight. He has one baffel installed inside his cowl and he's running Cool Power 15% So I really don't have and answer for you att. Will just have to keep a eye out to see if the problem becomes worse or not. Regards, Jim

RE: CMPro F4u Corsair
OK Guys Here are the photos of my "Phoenix" Corsair. She will mostly have to be rebuild from ashes. As you can see in row # 2 the lower bulkhead formers that I made that will connect to the upper servo tray former to give stranght to the already weak fuselage. I believe weakness around the fiberglass this was caused by engine torque stress over the years. I hope this will help.

RE: CMPro F4u Corsair
Hey Frank Thanks for the pics, but my flap system is different. Someone before me cut holes in the wing to accept servos for a more direct movement to the flaps. No flex cable is being used from the control horn on the flap to the servo in the middle of the wing like in your photo. I guess what I need help with is the rod that attaches to all three flaps pieces. It is missing the wire rod on the right wing. I believe I may removed all of the flaps pieces and replace the stock hinges with the Robart type for easier movement to the servo. I think photos will explain it all. Will try to snap some tomorrow. Happy 4th Jim

RE: CMPro F4u Corsair
Hello Frank Thanks for your reply. I just got back from the shop cutting out the rest of the plywood formers for the front end. I would like to see your (2) servo flap setup if you have any photos. I've got a few ideas but nothing soild yet. I have searched on the net but really can't find any mods on there. I will try to upload some photos of my SORRY looking Corsair later today if I get a chance. Jim

RE: CMPro F4u Corsair
Hello Guys I'M getting here a little late I know. I just was given a FREE and slightly used CMP Corsair 120 by a buddy in my RC Club. Did I say slightly use!. I'm wrong, I is highly used!!! So much so that I can't decide to rebuild her, or throw her into the can. But being the modeler that I feel that I am, I see this as a challenge so I must try to bring her back from the dead. Here a just a few items that will need to be addressed on the fuselage. 1. Recover the rudder with covering 2. Reinforce the fiberglass area between the firewall and fuel tank area with a bottom plywood former to attach to the upper servo tray former to make a complete circle of plywood former to stop the twist action from the engine torque that has weakened the structure. 3. Remove the 50 something old blind nuts out of the firewall that have been installed over the years from people installing different motors. and filling in the holes with wooden dowels plugs. 4. Filling in the many ON/OFF switch holes in the fuselage side by the same people who drilled all those hole on the firewall for different engines over the years. 5. Sanding down the fiberglass tape on the horizontal tail that someone applied back in the day and never sanded or painted, just left it raw. 6. Complete sand and paint job. Now for the wing 1. Rework the flap system, WOW what a cluster F@&% there. 2. Install retracts 3. repaint Well I guess that's about it. Now, I just wait for my (XYZ 26cc engine) to arrive from a seller here on RCU. I just received my two NEW engine cowls from Nitroplanes. I was lucky! They had them In stock for $20.00 each and boy are they nice. Well I guess that's about it. I'll post up some photos later of this bird, Jim

RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
Hey Rowdyjoe One thing I noticed from your photos is that you have not added a wheel collars to each side of the axle. You have a lot of movement from left to right that can made rolling down the runway kind of tough. You might want to add these before your maiden fight. Just a thought. Jim

RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
Hello Rowdydog Congrats on the fathers day Fokker, I know you will love this plane. So Will your fellow pilot buddies. Get a load on this. I walked into my favorite HS last week only to find a H9 Fokker DVII hanging up. The store manager said that the plane came in a hour ago and they just got in hung up. I asked him how much since they didn't even have the price tag on it yet. He said $275.00, I said WHAT!!! $275. Came with Saito 82 and all digital servos. HUMMMMMM!! With out much more hesitation I told him I'll take it. I knew this plane would go FAST. Yes I already had one but heck, At that price and besides there hard to find I placed it on layaway for now .Will go back next week to pick it up. Since then the HS has called me asking if I really still want the Fokker as he has had people coming into the shop begging him for this plane. I told him YES! I want this plane. See Hangar 9, ya'll messed up by discontinuing this aircraft. There are people who would really love to have this plane. Maybe H9 will bring it back some day. Jim

Hey Jaybird I'm using a "NEW" Xoar 13x6 WWI Scimitar Prop that I purchased last week at the Joe Nall event. I got to see it first hand fron the Xoar vendor tent. They make another style of WWI prop that is darker in color with what looks like it brass tips. But they were out of that model. Glad you like. Jim

RE: Hangar 9 Fokker DVII
Hey Jaybird Nice video you have of yours, I on the other hand have nice video too!!! Yes my maiden when off without a hitch. No wind to speak of and so all the conditions were right for a maiden flight. I will edit the video hopefully today and will post it here for you guys to see. The flight was fun, just had to adjust my down trim three clicks, and left trim about 5 or 6 clicks. The takeoff was easy and so was the landing. She's really pretty in the air. That blue really shows up good. Stay tuned for the video. Jim
