RE: Falcon 25 pusher
I have one of these and I can tell you it will not fly on a small electric setup. You need a very high kv Motor, 4S 3800 lipo and a 80+amp ESC. The problem is the prop diameter has to be pretty small (8 inches I believe), so you need high RPMs. On mine, I used a scorpion helicopter motor / outrunner. I believe it was around 1900kv.

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
For those who keep breaking the motor mount, I found a very easy fix. Place a "X" mount plate from a small outrunner on the outside (backside) of the stock stryker mount. It goes: Motor inside stock mount | Stock Mount | X-Plate (Screws go through the X mount , through the stock mount and into the motor) Basically you are making a sandwich with the motor on one side and the X-Mount on the other. When you do this, there is no stress on the small tabs.

OMG...I can't justify putting a 100amp let alone 120amp ESC in a foam wing. I barely use 1/2 the capacity of the 100amp ESC in my 25% Aeroworks Extra on 12s. What is my world coming too?!?!?! You people are sick...sick...sick. Hahaha

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
little dirty, Thanks...it was fun doing the glassing and paint. The CF Ultracote is the full sheets...really nice stuff. You just have to be really careful as the fins tend to warp with heat. Took a lot of patience to get them to come out straight without bubbles. Next time I will just make them out of ply. So I was on vacation in Belize for the last two weeks, got back on Saturday and finally did the maiden flight. I'm using a CC80, Himax 2815-3000kv with a TP Extreme 2 - 3S 2200. It actually flew very very nicely. It was not a barn-burner...maybe 90-95mph and unlimited vertical on a 5.5x4.5 speed prop. Overall it flew really well on 350 watts. I will have to weigh it, but it feels much heavier than the stock on I have, but it is super stiff. You really have to huck-it and get on the sticks quick for launch. It also doesn't "float" like the stock one will; obviously the extra weight makes a difference. Now that it is trimmed out, I will try a few different props to fine-tune. Then I will move up to a 4S 3800 battery. Lastly I have a Medusa MR-028-056-2800V2 that is rated to 500 watts, but suspect it will take a whole lot more abuse than the hi-max. My goal is to get up to 130+ on 4S.

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
All...thanks for the advice and explanation. Seems like there is a bit more to learn than I expected. I think what I will do is stick with the Himax 2815-3000 for a little bit to get used to the higher speed and weight make sure it is flying correctly since it is a brand new build. Once I'm happy with how it is performing I will work up to the larger battery and the Medusa. Sounds like a 6 - 6.5" prop is required for the heavier setups and I need to work backwards from that (Prop->Motor->Amps/ESC->Battery) My goal really isn't for the absolute limit I can push this thing, just for that extra bit of grin missing from running the stock one for so long. If I get this thing going over 100mph, I will be pretty happy. Last question I have for awhile is how do folks get their 3800s in that fuse? There must be a lot of cutting required. Anyone have some pics.

Well I broke down and bought the Medusa Research MR-028-056-2800 (afterburner V2). It's a 2800kv motor good for 500+ watts and about 60 amps. Anyone use this before? Any ideas of the best prop and expected speed? I plan on starting with TP-II Extreme 2200-3S lipos.

Gryphon....thanks for the ideas. If I decided to move up to the 3S or 4S 3800 packs; which motor & prop would you suggest? I'm looking for 110-130mph; hand launch; and at least 4-5 minutes of mixed flying.

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
Alright...with some washers I managed to get the Himax 2815-3000kv mounted. Apparently the new motors mounts are different than the stock one I got 18 months ago. Ran some quick numbers and got 38 amps on 390 watts on 3S 2200's WOT. I was using a 5.5x4.5 APC prop. I have 5x4, 5x5 and 6x4 props also. My concern is that the motor is rated to 275watts, so with this setup I'm well over the motor's rating. I don't want to go with a smaller prop. Any ideas?

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
Well I have Himax 3000kv that I wanted to use, but the holes don't match up at all with the stock motor mount...which is why I went with the 2W. Without reading through 14,000 posts on the stryker...what would be a good motor for a 3S-2200 setup? I have a TON of lipos(3S-2200, 3S-3700, 4S-1300, 4S-3850, 6S-3700, 6S-5000) but the only 4S ones I have are 3850 and seems like those are going to be adding a lot of weight. I would prefer lighter with hand launch than all out "stupid speed".

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
I did..it pulls 59amps. I have to limit my throttle to about 65% in the radio otherwise the battery triggers the LVC. I figure it will be good for nice general flying and a hand full of full power dives. I'm guessing it should be right around 100mph. This motor actually came out of an EDF...but I prefer a prop for better thrust. I might consider and EDF conversion, but not sure how to mount it since the styker's mount is for a prop setup. Does anyone know if I use 4S instead if my amps will drop since watts = amps x volts?

Alright...here are some pics of my latest one. It is a stock F-27C body, completely fiberglassed with extra CF rod for strength. I put in a HET 2W (450watts - 4700kv) since I didn't have anything else to trick it out. 2200 TP Extreme II 3S Lipo, 80 amp CC ESC, Hitech HS-65mg servos, Spektrum RX, lite-ply elevons and CF Ultracote. Even on a 4.7x4.7 prop...this thing SCREAMS. I used 5 pin-hinges on each side, seems very solid, but I need to tape the gap. Enjoy the pics...

RE: F27 STRYKER Part 7 : The Basics To The Darkest of Dark
Well...this is obviously a popular topic. I have had a stock F-27C for about a year, I put in a 2100kv Himax motor and had more fun...but last night I remembered I had a HET 2W inrunner used on a 70mm Ducted fan. It is 4600kv, good to 50 amps or about 600 watts. I'm guessing I will get around 40,000rpm at WOT...which sounds like it would rip the prop apart. It installed perfectly in the stock mount. I upgraded the ESC to a 60 amp ESC for good measure. When I fired it up, it was scary loud at 1/4 throttle and a 3D TP Extreme 2200. DANG...it pushed HARD. I can't wait to fly it. I have a feeling It is going to draw a lot of amps with a prop versus a EDF Fan....better break out the watt meter. I guess I need to look at the other suggestions about replacing the servos, CF rods and a balsa control surfaces. Is this a stupid idea to put such a high KV motor in this thing?

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
You know, I read the whole thread and saw that Mark was trying to take care of the situation. Instead of taking him up on it, you made a sarcastic comment "...nice try..." Is it right for a company to charge a credit card before shipping? No. Was your package missing decals? Apparently. Was this handled right by both parties? Not from what I see. Does it look like AW is going through growing pains? Yes...but that is a good thing. Does the plane look better with the supplied decals? I don't think so...but that is just my opinion. The thing is we are all human and make mistakes. These planes are very likely not built here is the US so maybe something happened with the manufacturer. I'm sure Aeroworks (or any company) wants to hear if something is wrong and be given a chance to make things right. But how this instance transpired was not done to solve the issue, but rather to damage the companies reputation. Which is pointless since they make awesome planes and I don't want them driv'n out of business. I have yet to see any customer service person respond well to negativity. They are people too and don't like to be yelled at. Like they say, you get more flies with honey than vinegar. When you start trashing people they are not likely to bend over backwards for you. Anytime I have had a customer service issue, I politely (and privately) walk it up the management chain until I get what I want....and it ALWAYS works. If it is that big of a deal you can have my decals...I'm not going to use them.

RE: New 35cc Extra 300 QB!!!!!!!!!
Humm...what is all the hub-bub about decals? Mine came with them, but I'm not likely to put them on as I will make my own. It's not like they are some outstanding "tear-away" or vendor decals. They are basic lettering; individual letters I might add, so putting them on is going to be a chore. I agree with KerryDel....this is an outstanding airplane. I did an electric conversion and put it together in 2 nights after the kids were in bed. I think I referenced the manual maybe twice regarding the landing gear. "Quickbuild" is a serious understatement. It's a sweet plane...looks great...flys great.

RE: 35cc Aeroworks Extra 300 - Electric Conversion
WOW....WOW...WOW...WOW. The maiden flight was awesome. Amazing is all I can say about this plane. It flew dead straight...no trimming required. Very very minor coupling on KE...easily flown though. Waterfalls were crisp. Snaps were quick. It flew around easily on 1/4 throttle, and unlimited vertical on 1/2 throttle. I didn't even bother flying it any faster. Take off in about 40ft. Nice easy glide for landing and settles right down. On 2 x 6s-5000 packs I could get about 9 solid minutes of flight time. I'm seriously considering going to 5S packs to get it even lighter. Video coming on Saturday or Sunday.

RE: H9 Sundowner
It is a great plane but as others pointed out it is not a slow park flyer. It is designed to fly fast. You are not going to be floating this one in on a landing...it has to be flown in. You just have to look at the size of the elevator compared to an aerobatic plane and you realize it is about precision and control. If you have any doubts about your ability, just get the smaller Sundowner 50. Should be a whole lot less to worry about with that one. Remember, this is a relatively heavy and big plane and you need to make absolutely sure your setup is solid. Spend the time to epoxy the landing gear area. Check your engine setup...fuel lines...etc. Check your CG and throws and fly it pretty high until you get the hang of it. Unlike others here, I went the electric route. Sure it costs more if this is your first big electric, but I have total confidence that I'm not going to have a deadstick. The added bonus...no cleanup and 140+mph. Best of luck...

Well...dirty little secret about electrics is they are a much easier build. No cutting the cowl...no throttle servo & linkage. Motor mount is a piece of cake. No fuel tank. Kind of plug-n-play (pun intended).

35cc Aeroworks Extra 300 - Electric Conversion
I have to say this is the nicest ARF I have had the pleasure of building. It was very well put together and pre-assembled. Took maybe 7 hours to assemble everything. Everything was predrilled or installed except the rudder...simply amazing. It is also shockingly light, even with the electric conversion...it came to 13 lbs on the dot. To put that in perspective...it is 3lbs lighter than my H9 Sundowner 80 with the same setup. I used a Hacker A60-M / 18 with 2 x 6S Flightpower 5000mah packs in series and a Jeti Spin 99 ESC. I still need to construct a battery tie-down system...but that should only take another hour. Flight report in the next few days.

Bench numbers put it at just over 10k RPM (224kv x 48 volts). I'm pretty sure that is the limit since I don't think the outrunners go much faster than that. RE: H9 Sundowner
I'm all set with mine, but going electric with a 12S on an AXI 5435/14 (4000watts) and should be a fast son of a gun when done. I'm really comfortable with all sorts of planes, some just as fast (but smaller). Most planes I have had so far are the "Edge" .60 sized or fast wings. My only concern is landing and how much runway I will need. All the videos I saw says she comes in fast. So my questions are: 1. How much runway is really needed to get this thing down on the ground safely. (I think our field is about 450ft long of dirt/DG with a small 3 foot wire fence at the ends) 2. Has anyone used flaperons yet...if so, what is the recommended setup? 3. I haven't used flaperons before, but logic says that should go "down" to generate more lift at slower speeds...but I have seen posts that say the opposite. What is the real deal?
