RE: Sepulveda Basin
Wow, the Basin thread is kinda dead these days. I found it back on page 4. A certain guy from Ohio posts here more than the local guys![;)] L A Jets this weekend was especially fun because everyone was safe with no crashes, no fires, and great weather, and I was part of it again! Scanning some old photos I took in 1982. Valleys Flyers held a Sport Scale contest. First picture shows a Platt T-28, Stafford Ercoupe, and I never found out about the Mooney. The second shows 2 Jemco FW-190's of which I later got one. And a Sig Smith Miniplane. The third pic shows the Great Garland Hamilton's Spitfire, that probably won( I'll have to check the old newsletter

Very nice baffle. I will use the dummy engine to restrict intake air. I like the baffle idea. I'll probably make a simpler set up inside mine. My engines always run a little hot.

Congrats! Glad the cooling issue is better. Looking forward to video. I know it is very hard to get video. I just bought a still camera that does video. But, who is going to run it??? I have my wing glassed and sanded. My fuse is all glassed and I have just started sanding. It is starting to pick up weight now.

RE: Royal Kits
Mine flipped on its back about 1 out of 3 landings. The whole top would crush in. Lots of repair. And then again. I finally REALLY beefed that headrest with lots of deep rooted 7 ply. Then when it flipped it was just a little putty and paint. The front Townend ring would get a little scraped up too. Mine was just too heavy. Better in a museum. Yours might be a dream to fly just like a trainer, with no bad traits at all. Maybe the two I flew were messed up. Even though, I would love to have another.
ORIGINAL: smithcreek The evenings have been good for flying lately, the wind drops off to nothing around 6pm, so it shouldn't be long until the maiden.
Success will be much greater with a headwind. At least 5-8mph.

No cheesy ARF plastic cockpit for me! I'll make my own. But I need to decide how deep to go with it. Yes our oil burners do need some air flow. Mine will need the same mods. Still sanding resin!

RE: Royal Kits
Do not know who's plans but NOT pepino. I later added scale flaps. 70" span 20 POUNDS[X(][X(][X(]. 1 out of 3 landings ended up on its back. Mine was too heavy. That made the top heaviness worse. It was scarier than my F-104 to fly! I'm too old for such stuff! The model is in the March field mueseum now. Any scale P-26 needs to be light. Shorter ground roll and lower CG.

RE: Royal Kits
I do have some time on SCALE p-26's with scale dimentions, not these tweeked and stretced ARF's that you see at some flying fields. More than one had a little problem with the gear forks compressing and the bottom of the pant scaping the ground and causing that side to "trip" with the plane on its back. Take off was not so bad with good prop blast over the tail and rudder

I am glad it flew good. C.G. good? You will have to show us some video! I am still sanding the glass job. I'll be on that for a while. The trailing edges warped a little above the flaps on mine. Maybe I can straighten them with a heat gun. Still trying to figure what to do with the cockpit.

RE: Royal Kits
Wow! that P-26 Peashooter is looking REAL good!!! That could be my favorite Royal plane I have seen on this thread! I test flew one for a customer back around 92' it was his first plane, and it was great, until the engine quit. I got it turned around pushing the nose down and the steeper I dived, it still would not pick up speed. Not much left for the flare over the runway, it flipped on its back with the head rest crushed in and the top of the rudder got scraped. Never saw the guy again. I hope that did not kill the hobby for him, his Peashooter was very nice too.

RE: E Flite AT-6 Texan Convert to GLOW!
Neat! Good call on standing down with the wind. Thanks for the tips on the wieght and balence. The engine is tuned to perfection! Love it! I have heard that this model will tip stall. But that is when the Leckys fly it, they expect everything to be light as a foamy feather. I plan on mine being in the 5 pound range.
