You could make yourself up a little torsion spring like this,,

My tests of systems three with cross linker with 30% car fuel showed it to be solid as a rock and soaked into the latex flat, the bonding was fantastic. Not sure what kind or how you are applying the Water based Poly Chip, but it's proven to me it be the way to go these days,,, If I brought dope into the house my wife would kill me. The weight at low speed would allow it to fall just fine me thinks,, so it must be heavy enough to accomplish that

I'm sure gravity is how the 1-1 worked too. In my mind I see the actuator above the wing/servo area, so it's easy to adjust. Then the screw action transferring the push/pull action back to the tail via a push rod, maybe even nyrod since it likely has to go around the tail wheel retract mechanics. Can't wait to see it work

RE: mechanism for making a retractable tailhook on Hellcat?
No worries, I was thinking for the little foamie one the mini servo to save weight, But for the larger scale model, a jack screw (lado or wingspan) retract actuator could both extend and retract the hook very well in a scale like manor

RE: Servo question
If you used a123 packs you'd know that they fall off that peak 7+ voltage almost instantly and drop to 6.6-6.7 volts when in use and hold that range through the whole discharge cycle.

I use a hs5645 to operate the tailwheel retract on my p-47,, I programmed it to 10% speed, I'd probably do the same with the hook just use a digital mini. good luck

RE: Standard switch with lipo and regulator
Yes, your theory is correct,, Amps are what the servos and RX demand,, not what the battery can deliver. So the question is, does your amp draw exceed the max your switch/wires can handle?

There were Glow Conversions for the early Gasers, that might be what he has. RE: F-82 Twin Mustang
Ok guys I have a question, I've been thinking about building or kit bashing another p-82. My question is about wing taper, or the sweep of the leading edge, Just can't find the answer via google images Did the p-82 follow the same sweep and eliminate the extra sweep for the gear the p51 has? or does is it have a different sweep to match the width at the cord?

RE: Will it be good for another 15 years?
Yes, It would be very easy to build a new float, that's not really the issue. This plane has been heavy to fly from day one,, This is by far the most challenging airframe I've ever flown, and I've flown a lot of different planes. The only reason I kept it going was the cool factor... and it's like you're flying a space shuttle, you only get one chance to flair and you better
