RE: After 9 years with the hyper .21..this happen!
revel67 be sure to put a good grade 5 or 8 nut on the shaft before you cut it , it will help break the burrs after you cut the shaft. Cut then polish up with a good file then back the nut off and it should be good to go. Remember to put a slght bevel all the way around the end of the shaft. If you already know all this just delete this post and Good Luck. Everybody, Have a safe and happy Fourth of July!!

RE: Off Subject! Any Military/ex-Military here?
Seems like every time I come on RCUniverse, I find another thread that takes precious minutes away from my building projects. Draftee in September 67, at the induction station station saw the poster that said ( Who says you have to be a college grad to fly!! Ask about the Army Warrant Oficer Aviation program?) and here we are 43 years later, retired since 92 as an Army CW4 helicopter pilot!! Two tours in the vacation wonderland of Viet Nam ( 1970 medevac home in June after 5 months in country and Aug 72 til March 73 when they started shutting down the only war we had at time) flying OH-6's for the 17th Air Cav. God Bless Hughes for building the most crashworthy aircraft the Army ever had!! Even today the best the Army has is the ( IMHO ) C models the Special Ops guys use!! Talk about great assignments, even had the same room on my second tour. Been flying models since the 50's with breaks for service duties and other ( now totally unimportant ) attempts at making a living. The most fun you can have with your pants on is rolling in hot with your minigun spewing tracers at an enemy target! Of course, all gunship pilots will argue with you. Always brings up the of the smells of JP-4 and gunpowder. Sad thing was we only carried enough ammo for a 30 second adventure into Red Baron territory, but WOW was it a 30 second adventure to be remembered Most of the time!! Had a ball, loved it all, bad times won't recall. Nuff of my war stories! I'll be back!

RE: Your First 1/2A Experience?
Hey Tee Bee, you're right, it's always nice to know there's still a few diehard scratch-builders out there! What did you end up with for a final configuration on your Das Splat? Never one to leave well enough alone! We've inverted the fuselage and are in the process of mounting a Fuji .10 we had laying around and adding two more servos ( throttle and rudder ). Will try to post some photos tomorrow. Hey Mod's please move this if it's not appropriate for this thread! Thanks. Tee Bee pm me at scalphunter@alaweb.com. ad tell me about yourDas Splat!!

RE: Your First 1/2A Experience?
My fondest memory of the 1/2A 60's was a profile staggerwing Beech withe the AWESOME Cox Babe Bee and of course Red Can Cox fuel. On maiden flite day one of the people I really looked up to, my Dad's buddy Leslie, who was a REAL pilot, showed up. Flew an old Bell 47 for the oil fields in Lousiana. High lite of the day was after several full tank flights on the Beech, Leslie decided he'd turn a few circlesand a few it was, took the Beech home in a grocery bag. Sorry I slipped off topic a little, but my 1st flites were with OK Cubs and Wen-Macs donated to me. Later progressed up to the Cox engines and can't even remember how many years we flew with Cox as our patron Saint of Flite!! First big plane was a Veco Renegade with an Old Red Head McCoy .35 .Flew on 75 foot wire and lost it to an air to air battle with a mockingbird who swore we were violating her airspace!! Later found her nest as she attacked us while looking for the pieces of the Renegade. Stuck with the Cox engines right thru our drop out mid 60's for the Army. Started back with RC in the mid 70's and built the old Heath Kit / Kraft 8 channel set.. Had 2 super 1/2A's we flew. Cox's Q-Tee and a 1/2A SST, with TD .051, pressurized tanks, 6/4 props and kids 16 Inch bike upside down for an electric starter! Those little hopped up TD's sure ran sweet on 40& nitro, but boy were they ever hard on the knuckles. Also had an old Bird Dog with about a 45 inck span and an Enya .09. Sure would love to find one of those again. Any how , took a break after retiring from the Army. My 45 year old son and I are getting back into it right now. Currently have a scratch built Das Splat and a hanger rashed Q-tee on the bench. Couple more weekends and we'll be sniffing that lovely 30% nitro buring again. Looked for 2 months and couldn't find 40% with castor oil blend so we settled for 30. This is one of the best threads i've spent time on in a while!! But, enough of my rambling. I'll be back!!!

RE: Removing Blue Color 40 LA
Thanks em14 for the quick response. Will dig out an old crock pot thisweekend and brew up some road kill this weekend! Will let you know the outcome!!! Forget to add, all I've ever used for after run or freeing up an old engine is the wonder drug Marvel Mystery oil. Been using it since I was a kid back in the 60's. First used it to free up the engine in my first car, 48 Jeep pickup. Again, thanks for the quick response.

RE: Removing Blue Color 40 LA
Hope I got this in the right spot. em14 and Bax both, coming back to the RC money pit after quit a few years absence. Having had more than one brain fart over the years, I find myself reaching ou for answers to questions I should be answering for others. Anyhow em14 please enlighten me on your crockpot method of cleaning! We, my son and I currently have engines on hand ranging in age from the 70's to some of todays bough here on RCU and other places.. Some have been cleaned and run grear, others are still so cruddy you're almost afraid to touch them in cause they're contagious!! Never heard of a crockpit cleaning before, but it just sounds like a great idea like the good old days before we realized we were destroying ou environment. If you would please, type of solvent, temp, and length of cook!! Thanks

GMP STORK PARTS
I've had my Stork a couple of months now and the only parts I've been able to round up so far is the owners manual new (unopened) in the plastic! Really need some of the parts on the paddle/flybar assembly. Most of the wear on this heli it seems is from previous owner putting it together and taking it apar. The rod end links are pretty sloppy on some of the control roads. Other than it looks like new. Don't think it was ever flown. Doesn't look like radio gear was ever mounted in it. Anyhow I know someone out there has to be ratholeing either some parts or a complete old bitd. HELP!!!

RE: Old Hirobo Parts?
Hi DonHolder, I see I'm not the only one looking for parts for an old GMP Stork. Are you having any luck? So far all I've been able to get was a new manual for $30 from Canada. Another Stork owner put me on to it, said if I had the Hirobo part number it would be easier to find the parts. Anxiously awaiting snail mail to delver the manual to me. What shape is your Stork in? The one I got supposedly was never completely put together and flown. Biggest problem I have is one of the ball joint mounting ears on the flybar assembly is broken off! That and a lot of slop in some of the snap links from putting it together and taking it apart too many times. Even if I had the part for the flybar, I'd be afraid to try and fly it because of the slop in some of the control arms. Anyhow if you find a source of parts, I'd sure appreciate you letting me know where and I'll do the same for you. My direct e-mail is scalphunter@alaweb.com if you want to drop me a note. Later and Thanks for letting me whine on your shoulder!
