Ninja's and Sweet Vee's back in Production
As most of you know, Will Naemura started the product line of the Ninja and Jerry's Sweet Vee and was very successful with the manufacturing of both air frames. Will has decided to let both Tom Scott and I take over the distribution of the planes and we are proud to announce, we have started to receive both airplanes in and have stock available. We have all white and red at the moment but yellow to follow. The website is still under construction but up and going so you will be able to order anytime from there or give either one of us a call for more information. Let us know how we can help you get racing.... [link=http://cmadracing.com]CMADracing.com[/link]

Gabrial's wife does not count ..... Hope everyone attends your race AJ, you put on an excellent race and all your course workers are top notch.... Is your assistant starter going to be there, I dont think it would be a race without him being there. Scott

RE: Flying Below the Pylons
I understand flying closer to the ground, but why would you want to risk your aircraft to fly below the pylons. If you fly tight on the course you stand a better chance of hitting a pylon this way. What is the big deal to fly 5-10 over the pylon for insurance reasons. I know for a fact at speeds of the Q40, planes with fly within "badair" and if your so low to the ground, you can NOT recover from this, I KNOW.... so what it is worth... stay above the pylons and save your aircraft, why task the risk. RE: Summer Pylon Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway
About the SAFETY of our sport. This kind of talk is not good for pylon, it give AMA just one more reason to shut pylon down because it's up to the CD to control the safety of all pilots and others. Please if you have trouble controling hard hat issues, dont bring it to the forum. In every AMA, NMPRA race that I have EVER been to, this has NEVER been a problem... we all know what is expected of us pilots and callers... Never leave the pits to go to the line without your helmet, its a rule.... Scott Causey

RE: New Viper 500 RTC
ORIGINAL: freeair love the comment about the Viper being designed for a sport plane only and not designed for racing. why are all the specs on this model exactly measured for pylon race rules ?
Just to clarify, I did not say " only as a sport plane" read the forum correctly next time..... and it is in specs of the 424 and 428 class ... if you think that a company like Hobbico would limilt their marketing to just a small part of the RC Community.. well you do the math. This is what I love about internet racers, you try to help out and inform people about new ideas, product, and how to's ... and this is what you get... insults from someone that can't read to begin with. RE: New Viper 500 RTC
Its thing like this from Hobbico that will make it right hopefully. I will send them an honest report detailing any problems that I have or remarks about the kit. I will be checking the incidence very close and looking at everything as a whole. If there is any problems that would be constructive to the build and future changes, I will be letting them know about them. Don, There is no glassing done at all with the fuse, as we all know all the other fuse kits out there are built with 3/16" sides, and the Viper is built with 1/8" sides... that is one problem why the Viper fuse is weaker than most kits available. I don't really understand your piece of ply your referring about to pin to, but you have to have a solid piece of material on both top and bottom of fuse to pin the firewall to. So replacing the top and bottom of the Fuse near the firewall is the best way I know how, and if you know of a different/ better way, let us know. This is done by Chuck Bridge himself and I have NEVER had a firewall come out on a Vortex(so this is a proven method). Just remember, the Viper is designed for a Sport plane and not exactly for the racing side. I think we all tend to think the plane was designed for racing, but the racing community is Very small and the Hobbico is going after the masses and not the SIG. So we will have to make some mods to the Viper to make it the best racer for the money. Scott Causey

RE: New Viper 500 RTC
I don't think Hobbico is going after the racer market with the Viper. They sent me a RTC to do a review on for MA and it looks good for a racer that want to have a plane other than Red or White. I know when I first started racing the AMA 424 locally, that was the first thing I did was to strip the covering and replace with my own colors. The RTC gives you the chance to do that without stripping it all down. No matter what you get you will need to do some mods to go racing with the Viper. The one thing that I did to the review Viper is put some 3/4oz. glass on the rear section on the fuse around the LE of the tail, hoping this will help out with the weak area. You still have to Glass the center section on the wing and around the nose of the fuse, in my thoughts, it does no good to pin the firewall because there is no ply up there to begin with. If you replace the top hatch with ply you could go ahead and pin it then, but you would also need to replace the bottom as well to make it durable. The best way is the glass the nose per the instructions and use epoxy and chopped glass inside the nose area around the firewall and under the wing hold down, and landing gear block. I have not checked the tail yet for incidence problem, but will soon and get back to everyone in the article. Scott Causey

RE: VIPER TRIM ISSUE:
Ed, Understand also that the further back your CG is that faster you become. When you move the CG back, your elevator throw become a lot less, meaning less drag .... faster Just don't go back too far and create the bad snap ... Good luck with everything and hope you do well. Scott Causey

RE: VIPER TRIM ISSUE:
ORIGINAL: Scorpion Racing Well, if you actually plan to race it, I would not trim it to fly level. In 424 you want to trim it to fly at a 45 degree left bank straight where you put it. But you are correct, you want the trims to be neutral when trimmed out to fly in the bank angle to loose as much drag as you can.
I will have to jump in on this one just a little and say, Scott you are not giving good advise here .... I'm sorry for being direct but when trimming any pylon racer, you should ALWAYS trim the plane to fly straight, complete hands off so it will fly off in the sunset straight. And to race 424, when you come out of #1 or #3 you want to get the Viper as flat as possible because it doesn't have enought speed to carry a 45 degree angle throughout the course. But to get back to the nose heavy in the turns, if the nose goes down, the upper part of the wing is light... my suggestion after you staighten your wing is to put a some tip weight on the bottom side of the high side of the wing. Lateral trimming should not be done on the bench, only in the air. I would put the CG as close to 3" as possible, your first thought at 2 3/4 is better than the 2 1/2 ... the number of clicks really means nothing, you should measure the difference at neutral and let us know how far out of trim it is... the Viper is known to have trim in the Elevator ... there has been many thoughts on the subject .. most shim the LE up to fix the issue .. In one of the next couple articles of MA columns, I will go over "how to trim a racer" Scott Causey 20V

RE: Fiberglass wing tips... allowed?
Jason, to answer your question, yes you can have glass tips, but here is the rules on the AMA site for pylon racing 424 16.3. Event 424: Sport Quickie 16.3.1. Airframe. The airframe specifications for this event are identical to those for Quickie 500 (Event No. 428) with the following exceptions: Wing and tail construction. Wings and tails must be constructed of either all wood or wood sheeting over a solid foam core. Wings and tails manufactured in molds designed to produce hollow core structures are prohibited. Traditional fiberglass reinforcement, carbon fiber or inset wood spars continue to be acceptable. The last three inches of each wingtip may be made of any material. The intent of the rule is to keep the cost of participation to a minimum. or you can go to the web site and read and read and read .... that is why I thought that I would post the section that you asked for..... but here is the site http://www.modelaircraft.org/files/events/rulebooks/rcracing.pdf Scott Causey
