RE: evolution 50 cc gas engine troubles
Can you snap a picture of the bottom of you cowl? You should have a bigger hole in the bottom them you have in the front. Hot air needs to get out. 1:1 is not enough, need more than that.

RE: Propeller Sizing for Specific Motors
Threads like this make me want to pull my hair out. Your ALL over the map with your specs. 1lb is VERY different from 4lb. The two would take completely different motor/battery combos. You need to come back with better numbers so you can get the correct help. The motor you picked says right on the web page, "Voltage: 4~5S Lipoly". This is not an 3 cell motor, the Kv is too low. For a 3 cell, you need to stick to something in the 1050-1250 Kv range. You need about 100w per pound of weight for an average flying plane. Remember, the watt per pound is "propped" watt, NOT motor watt. You can have a 150W motor propped to only pull 80 or 100 watts. So lets say you want 300w for a 3lb plane, you wouldn't buy a 300w motor because you would be running the motor maxed out. This means a HOT motor. You want to prop a motor to pull a MIN of 10% under, but preferably 20-25% under. The motor will last longer that way. ESC are the same way. If your going to pull a load of, say 20A max, you want a ESC that is a MIN of 10% over. But again, preferably 20-25% over. So if your plane is 1lb, your going to want a motor to be in the 125-150 watt range (propped @ 100w). If your plane is 4lb, your going to be looking around 500w-600w range (propped @ 400w). Remember, 100w propped, is ballpark range for an avrage flying sport plane. If you want a hot rod, or 3D type power, something closer to 150-175w per pound. What ever the max AMP is for the motor you pick, get an ESC that is 20% bigger. That way your ESC will run cooler and last longer. Got it? Good ...

RE: rc plane for bf
Was there a budget?? What controller model does he use? (the thing he holds in his hand with two little sticks on it) You could with a somewhat cheap bind and fly electric or buy him an ARF and a engine. $250-$600. I would vote for 120 size Decathlon with a DLE-20 or Saito 180. I think he would drop to one knee on the spot! [:D]

RE: correct Antenna orientation
Omni-Directional Antenna still have a nulls at each end of the pattern. Dont get stuck in the doughnut hole. 99.9% of the time you will be fine. You could go with the 9 channel to get the two antenna Rx to build in some diversity. Scott

RE: Gyro in Airplane ??
I have a nice kit built 73" P-38. Been thinking about putting a CC board in it with full 3 axis gyros to fly-by-wire. If I lose a motor, the CC board WILL go to full throws to keep it level and save the plane. But for sport flying, no, gyros are not needed IMHO.

At 15, I was making $200 week after school/weekends. I bought my 1st truck and had plates/insurance before my 16th birthday. Get R done.

RE: which motor?
Take a 10x8 with you and check the amperage with a watt meter. 10x7 on a 770kv 4s set-up might be a little small. I have a 890kv Scorpion and 10x7 is about as small as I can go on a Pulse 25.

RE: which motor?
You have to run a 4 cell with either motor. Kv is low for a 3 cell. If your planing on running 3 cells, look for a motor in the 1050-1200kv range.

RE: New pilot, need a suggestion.
ORIGINAL: 1QwkSport2.5r So, I will re-investigate the radio situation as I do not know where this adventure may end up. I've got interest in a multi-engine craft of some sort, but thats a far off place from now. Perhaps I buy a 6 or 7ch radio now, and when I'm ready for the ''big boys'' I'll step up to a 8 or 9ch radio and pass the Trainer and 6/7ch onto my Father. I'll just have to see.
I know a lot of people will disagree with the suggestion, buy I know more and more people that are buying this radio. They all love it (for the price). All of them re-flashed the firm ware with ER9x which is the main resin they like it. It really opens up the whole radio. You can download the firm ware for free. But for $40, how do you go wrong? Well, most of them converted them to Dragon Link too, but never heard anything bad about the stock Rx's. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8992__Turnigy_9X_9Ch_Transmitter_w_Module_8ch_Receiver_Mode_2_v2_Firmware_.html http://code.google.com/p/eepe/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MhRL-rdrkg
