Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the Flat 540 plans on E Zone does anyone know if they're still on there? 3D-kid330 do you think a 3d foamy would carry a 3 cell 2100mah lipo with a 2025 5300 Himax?

Any way to salvage this stuff?
I've been out of the Hobby for a couple months due to an ungodly amount of school activities. My friend has gotten me into 3D planes and I'm looking to try and salvage my old setup. So far I've pretty safely concluded that my Tanic 11.1V 2150mah battery is worthless in the 3D world. Is there anyway I can use my Himax 2025-5300 and 25A Phoenix ESC? The brushless motor is on an "I" GWS 400C gearbox which (ratio is 6.1). I'm looking for something durable and under $75 for the plane, do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks a lot. Scott

RE: Depressed!
How about this. You sell the rascal without the motor and battery on RCUniverse. Then take your money from that go buy a GWS kit for $50 and fly! Now you can always more expensive motors and batteries for your plane but the point is it's cheap!

First question, have you flown before? If not buy an actual trainer. Otherwise that extra buck my just have been wasted if you can't fly the WWII bird.

RE: Formosa motor upgrade.
Why don't you want a "HOT" brushless setup? If you spend $25 on a brushed 400 motor from GWS you'd be halfway to buying a brushless motor. Let me give you the sales pitch I got, and it's every bit true in my mind otherwise I wouldn't say it. The brushless motor lasts forever(50+ 10+ minutes flights), it's more efficient(15 minute flight time), and it can be really really fast or produce 3lbs of thrust. One last thing. I can keep up with the gas planes out at my airport.

RE: GWS Funny Park Mods? Keester?
I can't get you pictures but it's really quite simple. The guy didn't make any "mods" he just used what came in the package. Essentially the only you'd need a support in your wing like a bamboo stick would be because it bows when you pull or down. For construction I'd recomend using a carbon fiber rod, they're very inexpensive and 100x stronger then bamboo. You need to dig a trench in your wing, deep enough to fight your rod in but not too deep you weaken the wing more. Also if you used three rods it would be better then one. Put one in the center to about half way on each wing, then over lap towards the center a little with the ones that will go on the outside, make sure it doesn't go to the wing tip but 2-3 inches from it. Hope this helps.

RE: Tiger Moths parts
I think GWS puts all of those plastic parts in every model. It seems like all the foam parts should be used(two for the fuse, one for elevator, and two for the wing). Maybe a picture would help people make up their minds.

RE: Trim keeps changing
I think you have the same problem I do. My pushrods are really weak and I can see them flex when they move. My hinges aren't bad because I put actual pin hinges in although, I used CA hinges the last two times and they're POS. The GWS control horns are also very bad, I went to a hole closer to the control surface to avoid bending or any play in them. Hope this helps.

RE: Himax 2015 or 2025 for GWS Corsair
The difference between the 'D' and the 'I' gearbox is that the 'D' has a lower ratio. So the 'D' makes the prop turn 3 times for every time the motor turns while the 'I' turns the prop 6.1 times for every turn of the motor. The reason you want a bigger gearbox is so you don't draw as many amps, there is a pro and a con to that however. The pro is that you have a higher torque and can spin a bigger prop. The con is that you don't have a high rpm anymore. My bird is still as fast as most gas planes at full! so I wouldn't be worried about speed. Hope this helps.

Guess what. I did the same thing. You'll absolutely shock the guys at your flying field who think electrics are sissy toys. I went to [link=http://www.e-flightline.com]e-flightline[/link] to buy mine. I got a Himax 2025 5300, a Phoenix 25 amp ESC, a Tanic 3S 2150mah 25.8 amp max discharge, and a GWS 400 C 'I' gearbox. This thing is freaking amazing!!! Good hunting.

RE: Which “Speed x00 motor for 12V 3cell Lipo
How about looking at a brushless motor. They're much more powerful and efficient. It might cost you a little extra but in the long run it's a better deal. One motor can last forever as long as you don't nose the plane in and cush it. Himax motors and the [link=http://www.modelelectronicscorp.com/products.html]MEC[/link] Brushless Motor Line are very inexpensive. Hope this helped.

RE: I need help about a quick charger.
If you're looking for just a charger for I'd recomend the Hobbico Quick Field Charger MK II. It charges two batteries at a time(great feature). The only draw back is that it can only charge Lipo's at 1 amp. It's only $50. The other cheaper chargers aren't quite the same quality.

RE: easy star set-up
Let me start off by saying don't buy everything from one company if you can. I know personally that the MRC Super Crain 969 is a better deal then the Triton, except the temp gauge auto shut off device. According to the requirements for the Easy Star on towerhobbies the 2S 1500mah lipo should exceed whats needed so you'd have a little extra power. Now for lipos you need an ESC with a voltage cut off because you can't discharge lipos below 3.0V per cell, if you do you permanently ruine the cell(s). Make sure you can get that voltage cut off. Also why do you need a 30A ESC? It looks like you won't be using more then 15 amps if that. Just my 2 cents.

RE: NEED HELP... How much battery is too much???
I've played around with brushed ESCs' before. What are the specs on the ESC exactly? You said 9.6V but whats the max amperage? Some people put a fuse(at the maximum amperage) between the battery and ESC wire to prevent burning their ESC. Does your ESC have a Battery Elimenator Circuit(BEC)? A control test to do would be find some other servos, plug them into your receiver and check to see that they work. If they do try your old ones. Some people recomend glueing the servos down when installing them, so I don't think that you glueing them down is the problem unless you got glue in the servos itself. Next thing to do if the servos worked try another ESC, battery, and motor. This way you can tell if none of these things work properly its your radio. It might be certain channels, you never know. Tell me if you have anymore questions. Scott

RE: Himax motor w/ KAN's
I did almost the same thing. I got a 2025-5300 Himax, a GWS 400 C 'I' gearbox with the Cobri shim, a Phoenix 25 amp ESC, and two HeCell 1000mah 9.6V batteries for Xmas. I couldn't believe the power, the first flight seemed so hard to keep a super fast plane up for so long. Well soon enough I became tired/bored of the HeCell batteries so I got a TANIC 2150mah 11.1V battery that produces 26 amps!!! I'm probably not going to use all of those amps ever but I believe it would be a lot faster then a battery that produces only 14(a Thunder Power 2100 mah 11.1V). Like E-Flightline's mato, "Planes we sell and love to get out and punch holes in the sky" well mine does that. I flew up into a cloud and made my plane dissapear! So in conclusion I'd go brushless first, then kick it up a notch with a 3S Lipo that produces at least 20 amps. Later.
