RE: Replacement batteries!
Thank you for the help, everyone! :)

RE: Replacement batteries!
Yah, that's the car! :) So if I understand correctly, peak chargers put a lot more current into the battery, whereas "regular" trickle chargers put in very little, like 50Mah per hour? Does the former damage batteries or otherwise decrease their life span or the number of charge cycles that one would be able to have with a trickle charge? I was sold a wal wart charger and it takes 5 hours! [:@]

RE: Replacement batteries!
ORIGINAL: thecrow2k Im not sure what you mean about in parallel but most escs have a limit of around 8 cells so a radioshack car probably is designed for that voltage and that voltage only.
Parallel increases the current, not the voltage. Thus, I can double (or triple) the capacity. Re-read the posts again.

RE: Replacement batteries!
Yah, I meant in parallel! I don't know, the battery pack isn't that heavy, and adding that much weight to it won't slow it down. I mean, it's too fast as it is, so I'd rather sacrifice speed for longevity! :D Thanks again. :)

RE: Replacement batteries!
Awesome, thanks. :) Another question: has anyone used two battery packs in series to extend the run-time of packs? There is a ton of room on my Hummer for that. So with two 3000 MAh packs, one could essentially have a 6 AH battery, good for a ton of fun! Is my thinking way off here, aside from actually connecting the two together with custom wires and connectors?

Thanks, but what about charge times? That's my main concern. :)

Replacement batteries!
Hi guys, The other day I bought a huge R/C Hummer from Radio Shack just for fun - and my dog seems to like it, too! The guy sold me a 2000Mah NiCad pack w/ charger for $30. However, it takes FIVE HOURS (!) to charge and delivers about 10 minutes of fun, which I understand is the standard length of time for most R/C cars. This thing is 4x4, so it just eats through the batteries. However, the problem is the charge time: it takes forever! I googled around and read that charging takes 15 minutes: is this true? If so, what battery pack (perhaps something in the 3000+ MAh range) and charger would you recommend to give me similar performance? Anything less than five hours should be good! :D P.S. The car is 7.2 volts. I don't think I can put a LiPoly pack in there, but I'm sure a NiMH pack wouldn't be a problem. P.P.S. I'd rather not spend $300 on a charger and pack. If at all possible, I'd like to keep the whole thing under $50. Thanks in advance! I'm a relative newbie to this, so I really appreciate whatever help you can give. :)

Jeff, I now see exactly how this works: not complicated at all! Is this a system that you have devised or are control kits available with all necessary hardware to retrofit?

RE: Horten Ho 229 Build
There's hardly any doubt that the U.S. received a massive influx of stolen German aeronautical technologies, so it would be conceivable that whatever that picture portrays could be a derivative of sorts of the Horten, et al, flying wing design.

Building around powerplants of unknown size?
Hi guys, I want to design a jet-powered airplane from scratch, but I don't yet own a jet engine. Is it a good route to use manufacturer specs around which to design aircraft? What about additional components: how does one account for those? I hope my post makes sense. :) Thanks in advance! [:D]

RE: Horten Ho 229 Build
Hi Jeff, Thanks for the explanation, but I still don't understand the connection between the music wire and the control horn. From the picture, it seems the music wire goes straight for the control surface, with no horn, but I'm just having trouble picturing how it would work. I appreciate your help, though. :) I guess I can just wait for further build picture as they become available to make sense of it all. :D

RE: Capacity and Current, newb. question
Hi, I have no idea what the C-rating is. My question did not center around any specific type of battery, but battery ratings and expected theoretical operations. Thanks, though! :)

RE: Capacity and Current, newb. question
Thanks for the reply! :) Assuming a 3.7 volt, 700 ma discharge of the pack, can one theoretically expect an hour or operation? Also, does the capacity of the pack diminish proportionally to the voltage?

Capacity and Current, newb. question
Hi guys, I need some clarification on battery ratings. For example, here are the specs of a LiPoly pack: Capacity: 700 mah Current: 5 amps Voltage: 3.7 volts Questions: 1) So this means this battery can deliver a max of 18.5 Watts, correct? (discounting inefficiencies, etc., just theoretical stuff) 2) This means the battery can deliver up to 5 amps, correct? I apologize if the above seems basic, but thanks in advance! :)

Just use one of those cheap electric pumps from Edmunds Scientific. You can use more if one is not enough.

RE: THANKS, VTOL and SOMETHING ELSE...
ORIGINAL: F1992 Sir, For information only. 1. That thrust increase... it was checked on military Hely (1991). It is fact. By the way only today I meet w/person who calculated this thrust. He confirmed that thrust and according to calculation and according to banch test gave ~45-48% plus. 2. Engine disposes out of duct (tube), see for axample design of HOVTOL, US Patent 5,890,441 (4/99) 3. I understand that on rc model very difficult to get result ~45%, but result will be very positive any way. 4. One more: PROFILE of duct (tubing), which we see everywhere on rc models is "parody" on correct design. 5. I am beginner in field of RC model, but I have bigger experience as aviation engineer. I don`t wishe to argue...because I say ONLY, that there are big reserve of improvement of technical parameters. Thanks.
What an asshole. I was trying to be helpful. [8|]

RE: THANKS, VTOL and SOMETHING ELSE...
Including a "lip" on the duct tube supposedly helps thrust by 30%, though I cannot verify that. Also, if you have a conical thing below the engine, that will help prevent "suck" forces from injuring lift, and have added 10% ish. Good luck! :)
