RE: Good 2nd Low Wing?
I also started with an Avistar with a LA40 for power. Great trainer. For my second plane I went with a Phoenix Sea Bee and I would highly recomend it as a second plane. It handles wind well and flys true. I have a .52 Surpass in mine and it seems just right but a .46 two stroke would do a good job as well.

RE: Extra 300
The extra 300 is also one of my favorites. I own a 25% greatplanes, 60 size seagull and one of the new series phoenix extras in a .46 size. As you are interesed in a 90 size, I would recomend the .90 size phoenix from tower hobbies. They are very nice with airfoiled tail feathers and they are also avalible at a very reasonable price. There is a very large thread on this plane in the ARF section.

RE: what servos for 3d
For their price point, I find the Hitec 985's are the best. They can be had for about $65. Although the 5645 and 5625 are about $15 dollers less they are not in the same league performance wise. The Futaba 3305 and 3310 servos are garbage.

RE: What's wrong with RCU
It seems to be getting worse. I hope they get it resolved soon. It would be nice to get some kind of update on what is being done to correct the problems.

RE: Painting engines and canisters
John Deer has a good high heat black paint. It is no quite as flat as most high heat paint and is very durable. I use it on my snowmobile exhaust.

RE: Phoenix Extra 300s .46 size GP/EP
I just noticed that tower has lowered the price to $135 on this plane. If anyone is looking for an extra in this size range I would recomend this one, it is very nicely made. As you can see in my pics this is a compleley different plane than the one pictured on the box, it is a brand new design.

RE: Hangar9 Showtime 4D 90
I am just getting ready to start on mine. I have had it for a few years now but I have not got around to putting it together yet. I had purchased a YS 110 for it when I bought it but I have since purchased a DL20cc gas engine that will be going in it. I have custom fabricated a duel chamber pitts muffler that will fit completely inside the cowl. I posted pics of the muffler on the DL20 thread a wahile back.

RE: Seagull PT-19 ARF comments?
I have one with a Saito .82 in it. It is a little nose heavy with the .82 I think the .52 will be just right. I have the motor inverted and I didn't have to cut the cowl up too bad. I am thinking about getting some robo struts for mine. It is a nice looking and flying plane.

Phoenix Extra 300s .46 size GP/EP
I just purchased the new Phoenix Extra 300s .46 size GP/EP arf. Most of the Phoenix arfs have been completely redesigned lately and I must say that I am very impressed with the newer versions of these models. The new extra has a much more scale outline than the older version with airfoiled tail... surpass could do with an all up weight of about 4 1/2 lbs. If anyone else is building the new extra

RE: Extra 260 27% Hangar 9er
I'm thinking the new OS GT33 and this airframe would be the perfect match. Has anyone had a chance to try this combo yet? It's too bad Great Planes quit making the Gene Saucy Extra 300 and the Patty Wagstaff Extra 300 as both of these planes were a little too small for the popular light weight 50cc engines but should be great with the new 33cc OS as well.

RE: Seagull Models 40-sized PT-19?
I built one last year. The cowl is fiberglass and in general the plane is very nice. I put a saito .82 in mine but if i had to do it over again I would have put one of my OS .52 surpass engines in it as it came out a little nose heavy with the .82 and I'm sure the .52 will have enough power for normal flying. Typical Seagull Plane ie. flys nice and a good value.

RE: hangar 9 27% extra/ dle30???
Although I do not own that plane I believe that would be a nice combo if you build light. I have a great planes Patty wagstaff with a dl50 that weighs in at 14.5 lbs ready to fly as a result of very carfull attention to keeping it as light as possible. I think you could build the hangar 9 300s to about 12.5 lbs with the dl30 as the Hangar 9 Extra is about 1lb lighter than the Great Planes extra

RE: Which servo?
Of the servos you listed I would go with the 625's or the 645's. In this price range i feel these are about the best servo's. I have found that the 3305 and 3010 futaba servo's have sloppy gear sets and are not very accurate compared to the 625's. If you are willing to spend a little more the hitec 985 is a very good servo that can be used on almost any plane. I feel is one of the best servo's on the market at it's price point.

RE: DLE 60 and 40 twins- Fun with the Numbers
I'm not so sure you are correct. The DL 55 makes 4.19hp per kg of engine weight. Using these no's, the 60cc twin would make 4.3hp per kg of engine weight. I think the 60cc twin would be a nice option for the large 89" 1400 + sq. inch "50cc" planes

DLE 60 and 40 twins- Fun with the Numbers
I was thinking what the DLE 20 and 30 might be like if they were to make them into twins. Here are the No's I have come up with using the 55 and 111 as a benchmark. DL 20 820gr. and 2.5 hp = DL 40 twin 1566gr. and 5.07 hp DL 30 910gr. and 3.7hp = DL 60 twin 1738gr. and 7.5 hp Using the same formula, I get a DL 85 single at 1858gr. and 8.62hp Just playing with the no's to see what might be. I'm not sure the 40cc twin would make sense but the 60cc twin no's look interesting.

Editing an add after the sale
I just purchased a YS 120 sf on RCU last week . The seller had listed free shipping to the US and Canada but after he recieved my postal money order he e-mailed me back saying that he didn't mean to include free shipping to Canada and requested an additional $30 or he could send the money order back to me. I e-mailed him back and said that I have bought many engines from the US and I have never seen the postage higher than $17 but if he felt that he could not send me the engine as per the sale agreement I would accept a refund for my cost of sending him the money order. ie money order was for $155 but my cost was 163.28 because of the service charge and postage. I have since noticed that he has edited the add and it is now listed as for sale again and in the my offers section my offer has gone from sold status to rejected, and I no longer have a means of leaving feedback for this seller. I feel it is incorrect to allow the add to be edited after the sale. Even if the seller keeps my money order and sells the engine again to someone else I have no way of leaving negative feedback on this guy that could warn others of the type of seller this guy is. So far I have not heard back from the seller but the engine is now relisted as for sale. Regards Jarrod Leis PS I have bought many things in the RCU for sale section and have had no reason to post negative feedback on anyone untill now and now that I feel I need to leave negative feedback I can not because the seller was allowed to change the status of the sale from SOLD to still for sale.

52 Surpass oil line
I was wondering if anybody has ever tried to tap the intake manifold on a .52 surpass and run the oil blow off line to the intake manifold like the 70 and 91 surpass. I'm thinking about trying that with one of mine.

I just purchased a used OS 52 surpass that the PO had given a light coat of spray paint. I would like to remove the paint but I do not want to tarnish the aluminum. Has anybody had any luck removing paint from their engines?

Thanx for the suggestions guys. If the .074 seems too much I can install my .061 but I would like to put the .061 back in my grasshopper. My grasshopper was my first RC plane and I planning on getting it back in flying condition as well.

I would second what thunbskull said. If are really watching the $$ you might be okay with the 985's all aroud. The 985 is a very good servo for the money.

RE: A beam-mount DLE 35 Band Wagon
I would like to see a dl35 period, regardless of mount type. I own a dl20 and two dl50's. When the mt 35 came out I got one of those but i had to return it because the build quality was very poor, but I still like the idea of a 35cc engine. To me it would make sense to enlarge the 30 to a 35 like they did with the 50. It is only a 10cc jump from the 20 to the 30 then it is a 25cc jump the to 55. The main reason I think a DL 35 would be better than the 30 is that it could swing a 20" x 8" prop and I have a couple of planes that would peform very nice with an engine that weighs an oz or two more than the dl30 that could swing the 20" x 8" prop.

I posted a few pics of my almost finished pitts muffler in the other DL20 thread yesterday. I finished it today so I thought I would post a pic of it in the main DL20 thread. It is made to fit completely inside my Showtime 90 cowl. The muffler is a two chamber type and is very quiet. It weighs 3.2oz

RE: Larger Revolver
Just thought I would post pic of my new Revolver. I also built this one very "stock". I have built quite a few arfs over the years and I have to say this is one of the nicest so far. I realy like the balsa sheeted foam core wings and tail feathers. Mine came in at 8lbs 0oz and I used two elevator servos.
